Seems like they wanted to make King Kong more toyetic and marketable as a gaming/toy franchise, although I don't expect any games or toys to come out of this series. The showrunners simply wanted to inject more sci-fi onto the Kong mythos I guess. I can't complain if we get characters like Botilla.

I always wished there were more King Kong movies made during the '50s and '60s. It's always such a shame that nearly every King Kong movie is either a full-on remake or is somewhat original but still has scenes reminiscent of the original... I really wish King Kong had a more storied series of films like Godzilla or even Gamera. I would've loved to see King Kong evolve from his initial characterization into some American kaiju analogue where he became the Earth's defender and started fighting crazy alien monsters on different worlds and bizarre ancient creatures a la Ray Harryhausen effects flicks and whatnot.

Just watched the pilot. I especially love how utterly buttfuck moustache-twirling evil this kid's twin brother is, but Dad is perfectly okay with letting the little Robotnik build dinosaurs in his lab. Kid was so over the top that I almost thought he was a red herring and Dad was the true villain who was gonna steal the kid's robo-dino tech.

The shows sort of schizophrenic. There's actually a bunch of great scenes and dialogue, but it's between fucking awful scenes and lines. It's like the episodes were written by a bunch of people, but then never properly edited for cohesiveness or tone.
When you actually get to the fights they're fun to watch. Giant gorilla vs. mecha-Dinosaurs is hard to get wrong, though.
