Are we judging the song primarily as music or as a character moment? That song from Island Adventure is probably my favourite purely as a stand alone piece of music but there are others that are better in the context of the show. Also OP has good taste, that song is top five either way.
Neither are my absolute favs but the end credits song and the one from We Need to Talk are both great and don't get as much love as some of the others. The guitar solo in the later is fucking crazy good

This episode still really bothers me. I usually don't get why people are annoyed with Steven, but him being part of ruining Sadie's chance at a good time and having the end of the ep be about how happy he is to perform made me feel like garbage. I feel like the ep was designed to be about the big cross-dressing finale instead of Sadie.
She had to be convinced to do the performance but you could really tell from the beginning that she would've enjoyed being able to do it her way. Steven telling her she never really wanted to before going on stage just shows that he wasn't really paying attention to her at all.
I feel like even switching the ending to be in a small public venue with a couple people watching and enjoying would've improved it a lot.

No, the point of the episode is they morphed something she possibly could've enjoyed trying into something she didn't want to ever do. She clearly enjoyed singing and dancing along to the song when she was alone, and while she may not have ended up being a huge hit or becoming an amateur singer, it's clear she could've done this show in way that she would've found fun.
It's the whole point of her last speech. She wants to try stuff, but then her mom morphs them into things she hates. Steven's "you never wanted to do this' is a clear misunderstanding of Sadie. She had to be convinced to try, probably because she's so gun-shy after the way her mom ruined all her other stuff, but afterwards she was excited to sing.
I found the ending very unsatisfying. It's like if Owl Jolson didn't get the radio prize at the end because he was too busy making up with his Dad, but the focus was on someone else.

Obviously Something Entirely New is the superior song when it comes to character developement. It details Ruby and Sapphire's journey through acceptance of their fusion, which is both heartwarming and shows background to the otherwise "perfect" character that Garnet is.
