That Serbian pedo who uses Poser? Man, no wonder this book is dead.

It's amazing how much people just stopped caring about this book. I mean, when it came out, everyone was acting like it was the next big thing. I remember at a convention panel, this guy went "When my daughters get old enough, I'll lend them Rat Queens!" and then...nothing. Everyone acted like this was gonna be the next Saga or something, and now it's pretty much forgotten.

It's really astonishing how this book slammed onto the scene and then just vanished.
>>
>>81962050
>That Serbian pedo who uses Poser?
Yes.
Nowadays Sejic uses a different artstyle, and has a graphic novel series called Sunstone (he started Switch earlier as part of a "reboot" of the Top Cow universe but delayed so much because of work on that GN which also forced him to stop variant cover work, and the third issue will be out on Wednesday).

Didn't someone involved with the book get arrested for some domestic abuse charges? Kind of kills that feminist narrative they were banking on.

I enjoyed Roc Upchurch's art, though Stjepan Sejic was a pretty good choice for the reveal that the leader was half-demon

I suppose the main problem with the comic is that it stars a group of females yet it's written by a guy, which might turn some people off? I mean those who have actually read the comic know that it's pretty gory and violent and not that much of a feminist "take that, men" work, but whatever.

I guess I'll read volume 3 eventually.

The original artist Upchurch had all the juice he was the star of the book, and people read the book for the art not the story and everyone knows it.

Wiebe is probably just too cheap to keep Fowler on board and is clearly unable to write a book that caters to any artist strength with the basic panel layouts he gives them in every issue.

clearly firing Upchurch for a personal transgression that should have remained private and embarrassing Wiebe has been a gaping wound to this book that's never healed, Wiebe took the moral high ground and the book continues to suffer for it.
>>
Why are some guys here calling Sejic a pedo?

>>81962510
Poser is not a drawing characters software. Poser is 3D modelling software which the 3D characters already available. All you have to do is just put a clothing on them and posing them to your heart content.
Corel Painter, Adobe Photoshop, Manga/Comic Studio, GIMP are drawing softwares.

>tits and ass
I find it interesting that the earlier covers (by artists who were male) were much less sexualized with more realistic bodies and less T&A than the work by the new girl.

Also, as someone said upthread: this was never a terribly well written book. It was an exceedingly generic AD&D style fantasy with an Elf, a Halfling, a Dwarf, and a Wizard with the twist being that they were foul mouthed women rather than men. So, Buffy by way of Xena.

I enjoyed the first two arcs (which were quippy, genre winking, and fun); but it really went to shit when the writer went full Guggenheim and started sucking up to tumblr.

The writing was on the wall when they put out a "special one shot" staring a side character that was poorly drawn (by Fowler who was even worse here than she is on the main book because she did her own colors and it was a muddy fucking mess) AND poorly written. It's a paint-by-numbers "my father wants me to follow the tribes traditions BECAUSE HE JUST DOESN'T UNDERSTAND ME, MAN!" story with the twist that at the start and end of the story (but not during the flashback middle) ... the character is a woman. So She's "trans" with absolutely no explanation as to how, why, or when. It has nothing to do with the story and was just naked pandering because "trans" is the progressive flavor of the month. And then the writer gushed about how it was his favorite issue and she was his favorite character (even though she'd just been a side character with a few lines prior).

It wasn't exactly a shock when the whole thing imploded shortly after.
>>
>>81961786
The first arc was interesting and fun, the second was decent, but the third became blank and forced.

Also overused swearing.

>Also overused swearing.
It's basically the South Park problem: it was hilarious the first few times you saw some elementary school kids go off swearing like sailors but you quickly get desensitized to it and there's only so far you can turn the dial till you hit 11.

Same deal here: it's amusing that it's an all girl gang like The Pink Ladies in Grease (and the art in the first arc was really really good); but then the novelty wears off and you have to actually tell a fucking story.

Still: the character designs and the basic setup were golden so if they bring in a decent creative team I could see an adaption being awesome.

This seems like a good comic, i like the art a lot. Without the SJW comments, how is it? Is it actually a good read? Should i pick up a volume?
>>
>>81968947
Someone else said it earlier, but it's really nothing special. It's a pretty typical "violent fantasy" book where all the characters swear and there's gratuitous violence. It's been done plenty of times before. The main draw was the art, which was pretty good until the first artist got booted for good reason honestly and after that there's not a lot of appeal.

>>
>>81969186
So sorry to hear that your weird fetish isn't being catered for.
>>
>>81969185
>She had a beard in flashbacks due to some family tradition
The idea is that she's rebelling by shaving it off (which isn't how a "proper" Dwarven Lass should behave). Basically think of it like a boy growing his hair long in High School or growing out a hipster beard in College mostly just to annoy his conservative 'rents when he goes home for the holidays.

She grew it back out later on because she only shaved it off to assert independence and thumb her nose at 'tradition" ... but since she doesn't live in a Dwarven Mine (and, in fact, is pretty much the only Dwarf around town) it's sorta pointless and more trouble than it's worth. Also it shows that she's more comfortable in her own skin/with who she really is now.
>>
>>81969221
I'd say by the end of the second volume I was ready to leave the series. It was fun for a while, but the constant clash of cliched AD&D set pieces (Orcs invade, an eldritch horror comes to town, etc.) and modern lingo, styles, and attitudes got somewhat jarring. I thought the whole "magic cellphone" thing at the very beginning was pretty clever. Dee explains that it requires a human soul to work, which is a nod to our current culture's dependence on foreign labor to sate our gadget lust. Unfortunately the cleverness in that area makes an abrupt halt.

I dunno. I think most of the criticisms levied against Rat Queens are pretty sound which makes it a pretty non-amazing book. If volume three is good, though, I'll pick it up.
>>
>>81969515

Because it's pandering to the SJW demographic I suppose. And in its own minor way it is. It's saying 'look at the progressive shit im writing, you like this right'. And people hate pandering except in the cases where it is pandering to them.
Which is what I find annoying. Nobody bitches endlessly about girl heroes in slutty costumes cos its what they like to look at and they think its hot. Noone goes on and one about 'ugh frank cho draws his women ridiculous would he stop pandering to me with these hot bitches'. Cos they dig the way he draws hot bitches. Nobody gives a fuck when punisher does something inhumanly violent and badass because they enjoy that form of entertainment. Which if you ask me is much the same as slipping in a little something for some SJW who likes seeing faggy progressive bullshit. But despite it being a little silly moment of fluff like any other silly moment of fluff comics are rife with it becomes the downfall of the medium and all the shit they like being taken away.

In other words someone should post that picture of the hipster with the mask imitating mras or whatever saying 'were' just as bad as sjws. cos honestly its a bunch of fags bitching because its other fags that arent them being placated. But in the end theyre all just a bunch of fags.

I'm disgusted that there are people out there that actually think that this is a worthy successor to Fell's Five or even better in some cases.
>>
>>81980808
I'm disgusted that people keep bringing up Fell's Five as if these two comics are in the same world or that this comic's existence prevented Fell's Five from continuing.
>>
>>81978676
That's actually pretty fucking hilarious. That has nothing to do with Wanda as a character though
>>
>>81981379
I've never seen someone saying like that before. What has happened is a friend recommended Rat Queens to me after reading Fell's Five and now I can't trust his taste in comic anymore.- He legitimately thought Rat Queens was better.
>>
>>81981848
Well that's your friend's stupidity. I just know that every time a Rat Queens thread pops up, people complain that it is no Fell's Five and they get mad that this exist and not Fell's Five.
>>
>>81982148
It's more Rat Queens gets all the critical acclaim while Fell's Five gets ignored. It's hard not to compare them when they're both basically fantasy campaigns translated to comics and poke fun at stereotypes. The only difference is Fell's Five does it well.
>>
>>81982148
Rat Queens has nothing to do with Fell's Five. That's what is annoying about it on all counts. People want to say it's a worthy successor or people say they can't believe this exists instead of more Fell's Five. They're two different comics.

And Dwarf Girl hit pretty much all my fetishes pre-beard.

>Noone goes on and one about 'ugh frank cho draws his women ridiculous would he stop pandering to me with these hot bitches'.

Plenty of betas do this, though.

To be fair, the grandmother treats the trans woman with disdain. I can see the logic with putting her in the female prison since she'd probably get killed on her first day in the male prison.

The trans lady sympathizes with the little girl since she's also a half n half of sorts. It's very likely she'll sacrifice herself during the prison break next chapter.
>>
>>81983611
Why is the young child in an adult prison? That's dumber than the whole trans debate
>>
Issue #16 is in production when the hiatus is announced. Will this issue will eventually published?

#17 may be cancelled and then resolicited.

Since when in the hell did /co/ start liking this? I read the first four or five issues, and the majority of /co/mrades who commented in the threads agreed with me that it was pretty terrible.
>>
>>81987167
What was so bad about it? The drugs? The sex? The violence? The feels?
>>
>>81987167
Because it was popular. It's been hated due to its popularity long enough that its gotten past the 'people dont wanna bring it up cos itll get nothing but constant shit' stage and is now 'hated' enough to be safely enjoyed and looked at sensibly.

Me personally....really enjoyed the first two story arcs like many here have stated. Loved the characters, thought they were funny and charming and just nasty little shits. Liked the jokes, the dirtiness, the action, the D&D stylings. Thought it was a cool comic. too bad it was fucking doomed.

If only that shitbird could have kept from popping his wife who knows what could have been.

Did you even read the article you posted? Arrested. Arrested. And it includes two conflicting sides of the story, neither of which could Wiebe possibly know was the truth unless he was there.
>>81975475
This is all speculation though. If you didn't know what this person might be like and didn't know the wife, would you still end his career for the sake of looking good to your fans?

If I didn't know the person. Nah i wouldn't do that. But is that the situation we had. Cos i figure these two working together on a creator owned comic might engender some knowledge of who the other person is.

female prison with adults and children. She goes class with other little girls during her time in prison.

The comic didn't spend a whole lot of time explaining the prison system, and the heroes are about to break them out soon anyway.
>>
>>81989122
Sure, but a working relationship doesn't show you all sides of a person. I'm not saying Wiebe definitely didn't know about a darker side of Upchurch but we can't assume that.

Redpill me on said people.

Also they managed to publish books written by self-admitted sexual harasser Brian Wood.
>>
>>81992597
Didn't Wood try to rape the artist of this very book? Or was it someone else named Flower?

It's more like an internment camp for enemy combatants.

I don't see the issue here. There's a trans character and she's got a dick.

This is pretty far from retorting with: "Well I'm Trans" to your friend revealing to you that an immortal killer clown has been haunting her and her family across all of their incarnations and all their version in all of the multiverse.

>I don't see the issue here. There's a trans character and she's got a dick.

For /co/, the issue is that there's a trans character at all.

Wiebe got lucky with this title.

Everything else he's done as flopped so it'd only be a matter of time before interest waned too much on this title.
