Can we talk about homages, references, coincidences etc in animation?
At what point do you consider something a homage and when does it reach that point of stealing.
Do you think references take away from some creativity of trying to be original? Like, if a show purposely takes reference from Keyblades which become major items throughout the show.
Let's say you are designing a character. If you find out the design is similar to something existing, do you change it, or say "Fuck it, nothing is original"?
Sugar is kind of a hack, I love SU but most character designs are ripoffs of other, better shows
Reminder that this is Lapis's early concept design

What's the point of creating a new thread when this one here >>81924045
is fully active.
Anyway, like said already, it's most likely a big coincidence like it happens from time to time.
When can you call foul or coincidence.

Aww man that's pretty, we need more curly haired gems
Rebecca Sugar is a bitch with no creativity.

American animation today is just "let's see how many anime, videogames manga references I can put in"
well that is a very common hairtype in animation
it was bound to show up on a blue person
>>81925247
If that's the case, why are they stopping at references and not trying to make their shows more like anime?
>>81925247
As opposed to before when it was "let's see how many pop culture references I can put in"
>>81925210
the david star is a nice touch
>>81925342
animation is a wretched medium that never achieves its true potential for artistic achievement
just like every other media
its pointless to argue
>>81925342
No, back then it was "let's see which popular foreign fairy tale I can steal badly change and put under draconian copyright laws"
>>81925210
Let's play a game /co/.
Try and find the original inspiration for as many SU characters as possible

At that point then, discussing anything that cannot be changed by the end of that conversation is pointless.
We're not exactly here to change the world, just talk about cartoons, shitpost, spam some funny images, vent about shit, maybe say something insightful once in awhile.
What would you consider it's "true potential"? You think there's been nothing that's measured up to that yet?
>>81925402
What potential has it been falling short on?
>>81925402
>never achieves its true potential
thats the thing...there's no such thing as "true potential" in art. Its just a word people use to say "I like what you do but you're going to have to try much harder than that if you want my full attention."
>>81925446
the only answer is suicide
>>81925458
ok you first.
