Catdog (Winslow records cat reading Dog's diary and forces him to serve him)

Ed Edd and Eddy (Kevin learns Eddy's middle name and threatens to tell everyone)

As told by Ginger when the black cunt threatens to tell everyone about her hairy legs

I never forget these episodes because they just made me so angry, even as a kid. If you want me to hate a character make them commit blackmail.

There's a couple slight variations on this cliched sitcom formula, depending on whether the cartoon is more schmaltzy or more Simpsons-y.

You can also have a bad end, where character X just keeps doing thing, but EVEN WORSE at the end.

You can also have a version where character Y is actually being a prick and they just learn to live with character X doing thing.

Yeah but that was Ed, Edd n' Eddy and almost 20 years ago when the concept was probably a lot less cliched.

I don't know how the fuck in 2016 anyone thought it was a good idea to make that the very first episode of the PPG reboot a "two tickets/three of us" plot.

Do people really believe that Cartoon Network pays people to go on an ostensibly 18+ site to hype up shows to people outside their target demographic and are more likely than anyone else to just pirate?
>>
>>81892985
Phineas and Ferb subverted this trope in a way. Doofenshmirtz was talking on the computer to his rival and said something like "It's ridiculous that you'd have me say daughters are useless" and then Vanessa walked in in time for her to only hear "daughters are useless".

Then at the end of the episode it turns out she had her earbuds in and didn't hear anything he said at all.

I'd say R&M got away with it because it managed to do a lot more with the concept - a Fantastic Voyage plot that's also a Jurassic Park plot, with elements parodying both. It seemed to be the show going "Okay, in most shows, they go inside the human body and learn all of its myriad functions, in our show, the main character is nearly murdered inside the corpse of a hobo by Hepatitis."

Flowers for Algernon, which might be the original example of this (or at least is an old enough example that most modern interpretations are based on it) writes this off by saying the main character might have become a sudden genius, but he's still emotionally stunted as emotional growth takes time and isn't as simple as pumping chemicals into the smart gland and teaching someone how to read.

Most modern interpretations drop that angle and imply the smartness itself is what's making people into cocksuckers.

9 times out of 10, Tom was just minding his own business or just doing his job.
>>
>>81894147
It's Always Sunny did this pretty well - there's an episode where Charlie takes part in a science experiment to make him smarter, and he immediately turns into a prick. At the end of the episode, it turns out he was being given a placebo, and the experiment was to see if the positive reinforcement would actually make him smarter or just turn him into a pretentious imbecile.
