Yay or nay, /co/?
>>
>>81853569
Old Westwood would never ever sign up for a hero/marvel movie.
>>
>>81853596
But it wouldn't be 616 stuff, it'd be the story of a soldier in our real world.

I haven't read Fury MAX, but isn't it supposd to be part of the marvel universe with all the heroes and shit.
>>
>>81853980
No, you fool. Ennis' MAX books are set in a much more realistic universe. No capes, no other Marvel characters besides Punisher and Fury. And they're fucking good; Garth Ennis' Punisher and Fury books are among the best Marvel ever. Seriously, read them.

The MAXverse is not necessarily a shared universe. There are other MAX books by other writers but the characters don't meet, and such.

Shut up.

Is wolverine Max any good? Also, why not just make it a shared universe, I mean, getting a wolverine max vs punisher max vs deadpool max would be pretty cool, right?

Will never happen.
In fact, Fury Max is indirectly responsible for us not having white Nick Fury in the movies.
George Clooney was in talks to do a live-action Nick Fury movie.
Somehow, he ended up reading Fury Max. He was so disgusted by what he read, that he refused to have anything to do with the character.
Avi Arad was so pissed at Marvel for publishing it that he fired Bill Jemas.

A lot of old school film makers are insulted at the idea of comic book movies getting rave reviews.
>>
>>81858236
Yeah, most of the people who are all "the Superhero bubble will burst just like Westerns any day guys" are people in the movie industry that resent these films or just plain don't like them.
>>
>>81858236
>>81858308
If you ask me, the CW movie getting 10/10 reviews still looks a bit suspicious.

Hey, if it happened to the western genre it can happen to capes too.
>>
>>81858308
>>81858540
Don't get me wrong cape movies can be good for what they are, but it's like comparing a fast food burger and a steak. Giving them both 10/10s isn't really doing the films that are legitimately good justice.

>Giving them both 10/10s isn't really doing the films that are legitimately good justice
Amen.
>>
>>81858236
I wonder why they resent them. I wouldn't call Ant Man (or most Marvel movies, really) the next Godfather, but it's a perfectly serviceable action-comedy.
>>
>>81858540
>If you ask me, the CW movie getting 10/10 reviews still looks a bit suspicious.
What does that have to do with the "bubble will burst" argument?
>>
>>81858907
Because at heart they're all the same shit. Capes here, capes there, capes everywhere.

>>81858916
Those exagerated reviews might help the bubble burst, no matter if people love the movie or if they already feel fatigued.

Just because a lot of them share the same concept doesn't mean they're all bad.

You're all only partially right. It works like this:

Some of Ennis' Punisher MAX run (like Born) got referenced in a Civil War tie-in profile book. So that means some events in there happened in the Marvel Universe at that time, but maybe not others. His Punisher MAX run also acknowledged some things from his Marvel Knights run happened, but sidesteps others (anything that had to do with superheroes).

A comparable thing is Batman: Year One being in continuity to both the Pre-Flashpoint DCU and Frank Miller's Dark Knight universe.
>>
>>81859040
I dunno about the critics who praise say, The Winter Soldier as the next Citizen Kane (does such a critic exist?) but being overrated doesn't equal it being bad.
Hell, people praise Die Hard as a 10/10 action movie, but that doesn't mean they consider it on the same level as Apocalypse Now.

Here's the page from Civil War Files. Iron Man mentions the Firebase Valley massacre, which happened in Born. And the whole "now rarely encountered in the field by any super hero save Daredevil" is a mix of Ennis' MAX run (where no superheroes showed up) and Brubaker's run on Daredevil (where Castle showed up).

As for the MAX universe, in Ennis' mind only Punisher and Fury exist in the universe of the stories he writes. So his version would be all his Punisher MAX stuff, some of his Marvel Knights Punisher, plus his Fury MAX stuff and that Marvel Knights Fury miniseries and probably Punisher: The End.

The overall MAX universe includes all that stuff but ignores Punisher: The End, and also includes Foolkiller, Wolverine MAX, and Aaron's Punisher MAX run.

War movies, sure. But the wild west was literally one single decade, and the number of actual duels and gunslingers that existed could be counted numbers in only the dozens. It's the single most romanticized and misunderstood part of US history.

The latest handbook also revealed that Ennis's version of the Phantom Eagle is set in the "MAXVerse".

Which is designated Earth-200111, in case anyone is curious.

So, officially, it consists of:

The Punisher, with the exception of The End (also takes a broad strokes approach to pre-MAX Punisher)
Fury MAX, Peacemaker, and My War Gone By
Foolkiller MAX and White Angels
Wolverine MAX (debatable)
War is Hell: The First Flight of the Phantom Eagle and Secret Wars: Where Monsters Dwell

>>
>>81854276
MAX are effectively one-shots. Not every story for one character shares a timeline and not every MAX story shares a universe.
>>
>>81859680
Not quite; Wolverine MAX couldn't really be 616 Wolverine (the MAX version of Wolverine didn't have bone claws) and still had a much different history than 616 Wolverine anyway.
>>
>>81860983
Maybe Frank Miller
>>
>>81861040

>The Punisher, with the exception of The End (also takes a broad strokes approach to pre-MAX Punisher)

You could ignore the superhero stuff in Marvel Knights and it wouldn't change much. Like for instance, Castle would just shoot Dino Gnucci in "Welcome Back Frank" instead of getting into a fight with Daredevil and then shooting Gnucci. The Spider-Man story is a little harder to ignore but you could just imagine Castle doing something else to stop the Russian that time. Or ignore it completely. You could probably ignore the Wolverine story unless you wanted to pretend that at that point in time Wolverine MAX was brain-damaged and still trying to recover. Of course you'll have to completely ignore Confederacy of Dunces and the Ennis Punisher/Elektra story altogether (mainly cause Aaron's version of Elektra is completely different from the 616 version).

>Wolverine MAX (debatable)

I think Wolverine MAX is included because of the Punisher mention (it says the reason Logan got claws was that the mob boss he worked for wanted to give Logan an edge against the Punisher if he returned, or something like that). But his whole history is different anyway and there's really no other superpowered people in his comic other than Sabretooth and maybe Mother Night.

>>81862566

Yeah, Wolverine MAX fits well enough, the "debatable" was just my autism flaring up; I'll probably keep having reservations until there's something more concrete (like a handbook or something) than the final issue's vague reference and flashback, as it just seems off to have OVERTLY super powered people (even if they were just borderline urban legends like Logan and Creed) in a setting that tended to avoid straying into such territory unless you count things like the voice in Born, Fury's weird aging (which he brought up a few times) or that robotic arm that Sickle Moon picked up at the end of White Angels.
