The GOAT single strip gag
>>
That is a damn good strip. I laughed good and hard.

Got any more?
>>
>>81734876
The fourth panel is superfluous, just add the mom collapsing with laughter into the third.
>inb4 how dare you insult our lord Waterson
This is obviously from the time when he still hadn't had freedom to play with the panels. So this strip has a flaw which makes the claim of it being the GOAT dubious.
>>
>>81738227
nah man, the dad's reaction makes the strip.
>>
>>81738227
Well, it IS autism awareness month...
>>
>>81738227

I'm sure this is at least past the halfway point of him working on C&H. The strip ended in like, 1996 or something.

It works just fine as it is. I suppose if you want to sperg over it, it would technically still be fine with the fourth panel, just remove the dialogue.

But not every comic has to be condensed down to component parts just because.
>>
>>81738227
>The fourth panel is superfluous, just add the mom collapsing with laughter into the third.
Turn it into a clusterfuck, why don't you?
Mom's reaction is only as GOAT as it is because Calvin has left the scene and it's a private moment between the parents
>>
>>81738227
the mom is obviously laughing after calvin has left the room to maintain her position of authority, so a new panel is required for the passing of time

plus, there wouldn't be room for the dad's comment

Now remove "superfluous dialogue" like autists always do
>>

>glasses?
>haven't seen
>miserable builds character
Remove second panel for extra autism.
There, I "fixd" it.

I want to die.

>>81738853
no. it's worse. the actual punchline is not Calvin's joke, it's the mom laughing at it.
>>
>>81738907
>who actually think the punchline is that Calvin has the glasses

Is there more punchlines that that?

Calvin's impression of his dad is spot on
You wouldn't know how accurate the notion is unless the mom is collapsed on the floor

I've never understood the appeal of Calvin & Hobbes. It's like it's trying to say something profound while still being as bland and inoffensive as possible. Some strips are okay, but I've never once laughed at any of them.

>implying

>>81738987
The imitation of his Dad, followed by his mother's hysterical reaction. The humor comes from satirizing the Dad's parenting, but from their point of view instead of Calvin's. If the punchline was just "Calvin has the glasses", there wouldn't even be a joke. It'd be a statement of fact. Autists try to follow the logical situation, and arrive at the conclusion that the humor comes from the fact that the physical glasses are not in their usual spot. They are incapable of grasping humor, and try to logically determine where it must be located, rather than follow the flow of events and understand the innate humor in the interaction between Calvin and his parents.

I think I may be autistic now from explaining all that.
