Do you think Disney will do jack shit with this franchise? It seems ripe for the picking but I'm not seeing much merchandise anywhere.

Hope to god there isn't a sequel.
Frozen was bad enough. We don't need this cancerous furshit to spread even more.

In some circles, yes I do.

Duh, cute talking animals tend to sell well with children, there are rumors of a Zootopia theme in the works for Disney parks, and how could you not know of the merch anon? A simple search with any search engine will yield tons of official merch.

I got a Disney store in my mall that i check every few days and I've yet to see that store change their merchandise even once.

Posting more progress.
I think the practice is paying off and as soon as i flood this sketchbook page with Judy I'm going to start with Nick, then general Zootopia populace and hopefully start a small comic with decent consistent Zootopia art.

You ever try talking to them about shipment dates? Wouldn't they have a website where information is posted?

But will you be able to buy Zootopia cereal three years from now? Oh, right. There isn't Zootopia cereal.

But this shit is still on grocery store shelves. There's nowhere near the merch push for this movie.

To be fair, I can live without this kind of merch.

On the otherhand, if the "Zootopia Promotional Cereal" was Lucky Chomps like from the movie, that might be amusing.

In general, I'm sort of a fan for the more understated methods of merch that could blend in with stuff from the setting. Like one person wanting the Zootpia Mayor's pin.

They never released bags of ice labeled "Kristoff Borjman's Fresh Cut Ice" or stuff like that.

>>81629520
Sooo... basically NEVER because Frozen's getting a sequel and there's gonna be a billion more merch opportunities.

But maybe I'm a shitty merchandising exec and don't think clearly of the children and instead think too much on having these little things contain gags for older audiences so when they read it they'd find little disclaimers like: "These specific Hopps Family Farm carrots are grown on a subsidiary farm and any damages cannot be attributed to Hopps Family Farm"

They still sell the Princess line of products for just about anything you can imagine. If they're holding back on merchandise it's so they can make sure they're fully stocked in order to meet demand, not because they're waiting for other franchises to be done.

Disney doesn't give a shit if you buy the Elsa doll or the Judy doll. If it sells both and gets money it's happy as a singing clam.

Try going to an actual toy store?

My local Toys R Us has half a damn aisle full of nothing but Zootopia stuff. Plushes, figurines, Infinity stuff, books, kids' clothing, etc

In terms of sequels and such...bruh, we've made over 800 million worldwide so far. Zootopia is currently the #2 highest grossing Disney movie in the past 15 years or so. They'd be fucktarded not to make sequels and TV series and such.

As a comparison, Lilo and Stitch only made 275 million worldwide, and still got 2 sequel movies, a TV series with 65 episodes, and an anime series in Japan.

There are plenty of items with Elsa's old model on it, too.

I can see some escalating along the same lines as Cars. Since it introduced a setting pretty heavily like this film.

Tales from the city, or some kind of shorts with each one taking place in a different section of town might happen. They went a long way in telling us about different parts of the city that never once appeared in the film. And the developers talked about how they really did make all the parts of it and did not rely on flat backdrops.

I'm guessing a TV show? All the characters are also easily 2D animated. I wonder if this is a TV show they could have on a streaming service? A TV show will happen sooner than a movie. Maybe the sequel will be more about Nick since he didn't work as the main character in the first film

With the coming success of the Jungle Book and its talking animals I think Disney might be smart to just license Lackadaisy and make that a thing.

A 3D show would probably be cheaper to make, seeing as they already have all of the assets and environments created and laid out. Those tend to be the bulk of the cost and development time, with 3D animation.
>>
>>81630241
That's another possibility. It makes much more sense to wait than it is to buy up all this merchandise and not be able to do anything with it while the money trickles down the drain.

But I'm willing to bet that there's a sort of baseline merch level that they shoot for and it takes time to reach it.

I'm not sure. With Disney's deep pockets, they could easily afford some nice looking 3D for a TV series, but I've never seen a TV series that looked anywhere near as good as the movie that it's based on.

Kung Fu Panda's TV series looks like dogshit compared to the movies, but that was mostly because of Nickelodeon IIRC. It got a little better in the 2nd and 3rd seasons, but still miles behind the movie's animation quality. Both in model quality and actual animation quality.

All of which were cheap afterthoughts meant to both cash in on its success and placate fans wanting more. Disney has never committed to a full sequel with the intention of it being their main (or even B) movie of the year. Both DreamWorks and Pixar have proven how successful fully committed sequels can be, and yet Disney seems to be adamantly opposed to the concept on principal.

I doubt the lion would kill or hurt Judy. He would get himself into prison if he does kill Judy, even hurting a police officer might warant you some jail time too and I doubt the other larger mammals in the precint would hesitate in hurting him too if the Lion does use force.

That's a whip cane. They hurt a lot, and he's got a collar. Add in the innate resistance to actually go against the state out of fear of reprisal, and the occasional loyalist breaking ranks to join with the oppressors, and that's how you have a functioning police state. It all runs on fear.

Doubt it. Disney is never going to abandon their family friendly approach (not that they should), and a decent amount of families would avoid a PG-13 movie. Hell, my parents were concerned about me watching PG-13 films and playing T-rated games when I actually was 13, much less younger than that.

>The Rescuers Down Under was the first animated theatrical film sequel produced by Disney;[2] along with Fantasia 2000, and Winnie the Pooh, it is one of the few sequels that are part of the Disney animated features canon.
Sadly, all 3 of those were box office underperformers. It's weird, since Toy Story 2, Shrek 2, HTTYD 2, and KFP 2 were all successful. I don't know why Disney can't seem to grasp the concept of a successful sequel, much less a smash-hit sequel. It's certainly possible, but they keep bungling it with sequels that have zero budget and creativity, and those that do get awarded to things like Fantasia and Winnie the Pooh, which realistically are not going to pull huge numbers across age groups around the world.

Which didn't happen? They uncovered a conspiracy to instigate a race war coming from the mayor of the city herself, and successfully brought her to justice. My point is that bravery or heroism is not how you get immunity in court cases, so using that as an example for how that logic could apply to this situation is a bad idea.

Tax evasion is an example of character and background, it's a felony, and that's relevant when we're discussing not just having the record wiped clean but also giving Nick employment where he's sworn to uphold the law. If the ZPD has any standards for employment then they would be required to investigate his background and would have little to no choice in rejecting his application on account of his associates and background.

She operates outside the law when it is necessary (attacking people, kidnapping them) and inside the law when it is necessary (overtaking Lionheart, assigning Judy to the case). I think people seriously misunderstand lawful vs chaotic. As defined by D&D:
>Law implies honor, trustworthiness, obedience to authority, and reliability. On the downside, lawfulness can include closed-mindedness, reactionary adherence to tradition, judgmentalness, and a lack of adaptability. Those who consciously promote lawfulness say that only lawful behavior creates a society in which people can depend on each other and make the right decisions in full confidence that others will act as they should.
>Chaos implies freedom, adaptability, and flexibility. On the downside, chaos can include recklessness, resentment toward legitimate authority, arbitrary actions, and irresponsibility. Those who promote chaotic behavior say that only unfettered personal freedom allows people to express themselves fully and lets society benefit from the potential that its individuals have within them.

Mr. Big struck me as someone who follows a strict moral code, even if he is a criminal. For example, he could have, and wanted to, kill Nick and Judy, but he didn't because they saved his daughters life.

Even with a background check, it'd be pretty hard to pin anything on Nick. I don't think the ZPD would even consider stuff like tax fraud, other departments would do that.

Any police department that did not take into account any felonies their applicants had committed is an inherently corrupt or incompetent department. It doesn't matter if they're not responsible for prosecuting those crimes: accepting a person who committed them into their ranks is absolutely a questionable decision at best and possible grounds for an internal investigation.

Nick has no felonies attached to his records, so a background check should come out clean.

It's not the police department's duty to inspect every single facet of every applicant. That takes a lot of time, money, effort and power.

And pretty much all evidence that might have indicted Nick of tax evasion is lost. It's going to be hard for them prove tax evasion in the first place.

tbqh that was still the best way for it to have happened. The violence was only going to get worse and worse like it did in Rhodesia. Mandela might have been a criminal, but the government wasn't much better. C1 was a thing. By letting Mandela out of prison and letting him take the mellow face of rapprochement, it let all the pressure escape and prevent another Mugabe from coming to power. Same with the Tribunals just burying the hatchet.

All things considered, the way it happened was probably the best outcome. Better that than a Rhodesia-style revolution and genocide.

They would also interview family members, associates, and neighbors. If Nick has no records of rented or owned property, that sends up a red flag. If he doesn't have people who are of reputable character to speak for him, that sends up another red flag (Judy is one person, and they're looking for a trend).

His records of not filing any taxes are still there, which immediately prompts questions as to what his previous employment was and how he managed to keep afloat. Again, big, BIG red flag. If they don't find any felonies then he's still of seriously questionable background. Not having a paper trail, or having one that prompts more questions than it answers, is a sign that the applicant is not worth pursuing.

No, you would have lost, and you would have been driven out of the country. The South African Army could have only lasted so long, and that's assuming there was no international intervention. Once the USSR fell in 1991, the US didn't need South Africa anymore, so they would have been much more open to intervening militarily.

>>81633252
Well that seems kind of cruel, to have a child who could never have their own biological children.

I can't really think of any real world examples of physical conditions that result in infertility without causing significant problems to the offspring themselves, though. But since a lot of crossbreeds also suffer from problems it could fall under similar laws concerning the cruelty of producing children with known or likely deformities. Up to a point it used to be illegal to marry two deaf people together on the grounds that their children would likely be deaf, for instance.
>>
>>81633252
Nah see, because not ALL inter species offspring are infertile. The males usually are but the females can generally produce offspring.

However in these cases the offspring tend to be throw backs to their parents parents rather than another hybrid and tend to be sickly and weak.

Honestly, it'd make for an interesting narrative for a main character since it's probably something paramount to be being the child of incest in that kind of world.

Something about these threads and a bit of starbucks inspires me to try to actually be productive man.
I keep drawing during these threads and i want to recreate Savage City but i keep doibting my abilities before i get started.
Should i just jot down my thoughts and findings for that original script and try to revcreate it as accurately as possible even if it makes me cringe just a bit while i do it? It's the most productive thing i do in between work.

Made this just before work on my phone.

Nick is applying for a police officer.

As far as I know, police officers and other similar jobs don't require security clearances. The background check won't go that deep.

You have some idealized expectations, Anon. But reality is more complicated, and what should be ideal tends to be ignored for things that are more practical.

At least we could have left the country as we found it: nothing.
>>
>>81633482
Absolutely. Nick can reapply later, after he has developed a documented past of gainful employment and proven that he has paid his taxes as he ought.

And yes, bending the law and rushing an applicant in and failing to fully investigate their background because they like them or feel they owe him favors is good old fashioned corruption. It's of the "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" kind, but that is corruption.

>>81633527
Not idealized expectations. I've applied for positions and the information I've had to provide indicates that they take their applicants very seriously, and a failure to disclose information is grounds for immediate termination of an application. And that's not even taking into account the voice stress tests/polygraph tests that are mandatory for some departments.

If you cannot prove your character to be both lawful and moral then you will be rejected, and rightly so. This isn't a grocery stocker or a cashier: this is someone who has the ability to make arrests and shoot people. You do not want to let questionable characters or known criminals into your midst, and if you do, that's a sign your department and you are begging for the boot.

Considering how terrible of an idea it is for the police to directly confront the mafia, the best scenario is to have somewhat open communication with them. The biggest concern is avoiding rival gang wars, and minimizing the market they operate out of. Otherwise you're just chopping heads off hydras.

They did a lot in the film that almost made it feel like one already. The themes, constant notion that death was an actual thing, biases, icing animals, possible but unconfirmed gay couple living by Judy. As long as a sequel kept the same sort of "real" things without making them feel hamfisted, it'd be great. Many want Judy and Nick to get together so one of the themes could be interspecies relationships.

Though I don't know if a sequel could end up as good as this one simply because this movie had been ironed out over and over until it was perfect. Even if I find a few slight things in the movie a bit to convenient, overall everything made the film what it is and I don't know if I'd want any of that changed. Still even if a sequel wasn't as fantastic to me as this one I'd still want to see it because I know the team would make a great movie. Just keep it a great movie in of itself instead of trying to go by some magical perfect princess bullshit formula.

More like the setting wouldn't allow for a believable ending where everything could be alright. Proto-zootopia was too broken to fix just like that.
The happiest ending that they could think of was Nick running away, but thats bittersweet as hell.

And Disney doesn't really do bittersweet like that.

Really considering what they wanted to do, it was the right decision to change. I still want to see proto-zootopia, but I accept they made the right decision

You're making it sound like Nick has nothing to his name. He was able to pull out the right documents in order to quiet down Judy the first time. Documents that he had to register through some government body.

And I can't honestly think of a single reason why a police department would check through an applicant's tax records. Sure, if there's a tax evasion penalty already in there, that's a problem. But there's nothing.

In real life, the taxation department would give a middle finger to the police department if the police department wanted to know if one of their applicants was possibly committing tax fraud.

Then how did he support himself? What did he do?

If you don't think a police department isn't going to ask this then you don't know a thing about the application process. They want to know what you've done 10 years ago, detailing every instance of unemployment you've ever had, for whatever length of time, and how you were able to support yourself otherwise.

If he says he did X, then they'll ask for proof. They'll talk to neighbors and associates and find out what he was doing. If Nick can't prove that he earned so little as to not pay taxes, then he falls under misleading or misrepresenting himself or failing to provide adequate proof and he would be disqualified.

And finally, since Judy knows he's committed tax fraud, her not disclosing that is again, corruption in the department.

Better to stand on our own feet than be murdered every day by bloody ungrateful kaffirs.

If we'd lasted until 2001 we could have easily got our way back into America's grace by helping them with their war on terror. It's not like they have integrity anyway, they'd latch on to another ally.

Uh, mate. You *lost* all those wars. And those were again just guerrillas. The Rhodesians and South Africans were the best anti-guerrilla fighters in the world...but an actual overt invasion is something completely and totally different. You wouldn't have been able to fight both an open invasion and an insurgency at the same time. Not a country-wide one.

And you really think you could start Remoeving Kaffir without the rest of the world stepping in to kick your ass? AFTER the Soviet Union fell and you became the only "bad guy" on the international stage? Look what happened to Serbia, and they didn't even have the history of being the world's enemy that South Africa did.

If Nick has not gotten a single letter from the taxation department, regarding any possible issue with his taxes, he is in the green.

There is literally no issue with his taxes. That is how it would work in real life, Anon. And I expect the same thing to hold true in a fictional movie regarding furry animals.

And I don't really need to work a job. But I want to be a police officer in order to wear that sexy uniform.

Its the difference between nontaxable and taxable income.
If you are under a certain threshhold, then your income can't be taxed.

But 70k is above that threshhold.

So if Nick was inflating his numbers for Judy, then its possible hes not guilty of tax evasion, he was just lying to Judy. But if hes telling the truth, then hes committed a felony

Think about it, every celebrity or personality on the internet might as well not actually exist for all the actual impact they'll have on your life. All you have is the data of their existence and the emotional reaction it causes. That's all anyone really has outside of their person-to-person interactions.

>>81634947
Like I said earlier: the police department that hires him is either corrupt or incompetent. Judy's failure to disclose Nick's criminal background is a problem. Of course, this is secondary to her using her contact with the mob to threaten Weaselton.

Judy made a deal with him in order to receive information regarding a missing person case, since she did not have the time nor resources to conduct an investigation by the books. That, plus receiving assistance from the mafia, would put Judy in a tight situation, possibly more serious than tax evasion. However, the end result is countless lives saved, and a prevention of apartheid-animal style.

You see where the "fun at parties" comments come from? You remind me of that one general from Justice League Unlimited who gets anally annihilated because Superman "is above the law."

They did not lose those wars. More like caved to external pressure.

As about "overt invasion"... The superiority of Israel over Arabs (who at least usually can shoot straight) is not even close to the gap in military ability that existed between South Aftica and pretty much everything else south of Sahara combined.

Decivilization of South Africa, just like decivilization of the rest of Africa (and make no mistake, what happened there and what is currently happening in the Middle East is nothing else than retreat of civilization before neo-barbarians) was the result of international (read: US) pressure resulting first from the combination of intent to destroy old colonial empires to remove potential rivals and blind belief in ideological dogmas.

Sort of. I understand and support the actions of those who violate the letter of laws that are unjust, and those who violate laws that prevent good actions, provided their justification is good and they submit to proper authority and are judged for their actions.

There is also a huge difference between not prosecuting, or excusing someone's actions, and providing them with employment where their job specifically concerns upholding the very laws they broke in the past. A pardon is not a job offer, nor should it be.

There is literally no evidence tying Judy and Nick to anything.

There can be no prosecution because there is no evidence.

There is nothing to stop them from getting employment.

The fact that they're partners with such a big size difference that they need talkboxes to communicate.

The fact that they functions perfectly as a distraction for him during investigations because she's so big and a bit ditzy that everyone pays attention to her and he can sneak in and get info/find clues without being discovered!

Can you actually prove tax information is brought up in modern day police applications, or are you just dragging this thread down because you don;t want to admit that your argument is full of holes?
>>
>>81637161

Only Otterton can do that, Nick and Bellwether do nothing.

The game has a lot of delay on my moto G2, do you have this problem?

Why is it so hard to admit your precious fox husbando committed crimes? He even admits it.

No, Nick isn't a bad guy but that doesn't magically make everything he did not illegal

Nick is, generally, emotionally and mentally robust. His pre-Judy life was tattered nand meaningless, but he never showed, and actually demonstrated the opposite. If we are goinmg to get a scene of Nick braking down, it will be with someone he loves (Judy) allowing him a shoulder to cry on, allowing him to release all of his bottled up emotions. It will take a lot to gain enough of Nick's trust to have him do that, though, I hope it makes it into the next film.

I'm pretty sure if it happens, it'll be something involving his mom. Perhaps meeting her again for the first time after years of separation because he was ashamed to face her.

Either way, it'll have to be something really big to actually get him to break down. I wanna see it happen though.

I kind of want them to bring the backstory with his dad back in, but I guess they'd need to shift it around a little and make the reason he can't get a loan more to do with him being a fox or something.

The he dies/leaves when Nick is young, single mom raises him etc

I just really want to see that Suitopia pitch in full.

it doesn't matter that he did illegal things, since we know for sure he is a police officer after the movie. there are plenty of sources, canon books, the end of the movie, etc. what are you even arguing?

if you're whining about how he was a criminal before, his tax evasion... he had a huge role in basically saving zootopia from the whole prey vs predator war so they could have just wiped his slate clean. you don't know the power they have as a government, you have absolutely no proof it works just like ours, and much more proof that if his tax evasion still stands they don't check for it, because he obviously got in

Yeah, that's what the IRS does.

Sends you a letter. Lists out the amounts of tax liability they think you owe.

You can either provide proof, pay up or go to court after some time.

I wonder what separated him from his mom. I would say normally that they became estranged somehow, from shame or just lack of time to be around each other, but considering Nick has been working since age twelve, I would assume happened to his mother that required him to now support her and himself singlehandedly, and at this point he may just be sending part of his check back home to care for her.

Classic just means rarity, theres classic, rare, and epic. As far as I know there's Nick, Judy, Bellweather, Flash, Manchas, Finnick, Jumbeaux Jr, Bogo (I think?) And the two hidden characters seem to be Elefinnick, and scout Nick.

It's because it's a bad argument that becomes circular "NUH UH! NO I'M RIGHT" hinging on what is quickly becoming a buzzword. Someone could give him (you) definitive proof of whatever he's arguing and he'd still do it anyway. Or maybe he's being honest and is just a retard who refuses to admit he's wrong.
