GUYS

WHAT IF THE LORAX HAD AN EVIL BUSINESSMAN ANTAGONIST WHO MAKES PEOPLE LITERALLY PAY FOR AIR
>>
>>81607436
The movie tried so hard to make it clear that anyone can be consumed by greed, then they fucked it up with this cunt. What was the point of even making the Once-Ler sympathetic?
>>
>>81607472

To be fair, he was sympathetic in the original story, but only after he had fucked everything up.
>>
The little boy in this movie was like a proto-Dipper. He was a 12-year-old who had the voice of a 30-year-old (lol zac efron) and had a crush on a ginger girl who was plain as fuck.
>>
>>81607472
because at the end of the original story he did learn his lesson to pass on what he learned to the next generation to be more environmentally aware.
of course the movies biggest problem is that it talked about how bad consumerism is and the was commercialized as hell.

>>

No sense.

That's what makes to original good. Lorax put up arguments and Onceler had a reasonable counter that back then the Lorax wouldn't just scream like a bitch and call for his head over.

The thinking mans piece. But fuck that now right.

>Once-ler in the original book is deliberately kept faceless and ambiguous to make a point that ANYONE could become Once-ler if they gave in to their greed.
>book has a strong environmentalist message; the conclusion is open-ended to, again, demonstrate a point: we can make the change and care for the Earth while it needs us the most, or we can simply continue being greedy and treating Earth like trash
>COMPLETELY FUCKING FOREGO ANY OF THIS SUBTLETY, SO MUCH FOR PROVOKING THOUGHT!
>LET'S EVEN LITERALLY USE THIS MOVIE TO SELL SUVs (this actually happened)
>>

The movie or Tumblr?

both is the right answer
>>
How will they fuck up Cat in the Hat?

>>

How was co during it? I remember seeing threads but didn't really fuck with them.
>>
>>81607772
There's a great exchange in the 1972 animated version between the Lorax and the Once-ler. The Once-ler talks about how he sees the Lorax's points, but he has other responsibilities beyond the environment - the factory he's running, the hundreds of thousands of people depending on him for employment, the millions of people depending on his products, etc. The Lorax replies that he sees the Once-ler's point, and sadly comments that there may not be an easy answer to the problem, or a solution that makes everyone happy.

Even though it's not a scene from the original book, it still resonates strongly with the message of the story - there's not always an easy way out, doing the right thing isn't always straightforward or without sacrifice.

>In 1988, a small school district in California kept the book on a reading list for second graders, though some in the town claimed the book was unfair to the logging industry.[5] Terri Birkett, a member of a family-owned hardwood flooring factory, authored The Truax,[6] offering a logging-friendly perspective to an anthropomorphic tree known as the Guardbark. This book was published by the National Oak Flooring Manufacturers' Association (NOFMA). Just as in The Lorax, the book consists of a disagreement between two people. The logging industry representative states that they have efficiency and re-seeding efforts. The Guardbark, a personification of the environmentalist movement much as the Once-ler is for big business, refuses to listen and lashes out. But in the end, he is convinced by the logger's arguments. However, this story was criticized for what were viewed as skewed arguments and clear self-interest, particularly a "casual attitude toward endangered species" that answered the Guardbark's concern for them. In addition, the book's approach as a more blatant argument, rather than one worked into a storyline, was also noted.[7][8]

Most deforestation now is for agriculture, not timber.

A more accurate version now would be the Once-ler deforesting the land and driving off the animals so he could plants miles of GMO Truffula trees sprayed with chemical fertilizers and pesticides while using a disproportional amount of water despite drought conditions.
>>
>>81608354

>>
>>81609224
What grade did you get?
>>
>>81608799
That was only in the TV special, and not in the book, but since the TV special is awesome and underrated, it doesn't matter.

I bring this up every Lorax thread, but I've been working on-and-off on a Lorax fan screenplay that's supposed to be better than the movie for about.. shit, 3.5 years? I should kill myself. Anyway, one of my ideas was that the entire local economy is based around the Thneed factory, so if it goes down, everything goes down. That was inspired by the reference to "too big to fail" in the movie, which they did literally nothing with. I was also driving down a usually busy road after midnight, and seeing all the businesses with their lights out made me think of that.

Golly, I sure do like talking about things I could write than actually writing. Thanks for giving me an excuse to do that, anon.

my gf made me watch this. She was laying behind me and the laptop was in front of me. About halfway through I start feeling her push up against me and hear her moaning. I could tell she was touching herself. So I start to turn around and she just pushed me back saying that I needed to pay attention to the movie. So I laid there while she made herself cum. At one point she reached over to feel my crotch and so I think "finally, some action" but then she just laughed and said I was word for getting hard watching a cartoon.

I've told this story on /adv/ before so copy and pasting

>high school
>hanging out with a girl I was friends with at her house
>her bf comes over
>not too weird, we've all hung out before
>sitting on her bed, watching Netflix
>they start smooching and touching and stuff
>"I'll just go then, see ya later"
>she stops me, saying not to leave yet
>"....Kay, then....I'll just go wait outside..."
>also a no go, her dad is right outside and it'd look weird if I was just hanging out in the hall.
>So because of this, I have to sit in the floor with a pair of headphones watching the movie facing away from the bed

So I sat for the next 20 or so minutes questioning all major life choices I had made that led me into what is still one of the most uncomfortable experiences of my life.

It also turns out that her bf was gay, when I told this story to my gf she laughed and said I was probably the only thing keeping him hard

The Lorax could have been good. I mean, it could have been FAR worse, I enjoy it, but I'm so incredibly disappointed it's not better than it was.

I mean, they handwaved the importance of the trees by just having them grow again at the end. Though, in this version, it's more confusion why they didn't just create a contraption that shaved the tree-tops instead of a super buzzsaw, it's not like they didn't to mulch the entire tree to make a softer Thneed or anything.

Helloooo fan art community.
How about this red headed goddess?
>b-but it doesn't make sense because...
I'm going to stop you right there, tumblr.
It makes more sense to somehow clone the Onceler, and turn both the original and the copy into a incestuous homosexuals?
I thought it was wrong to impose your sexuality on others.
No tumblr, that's a bad tumblr.

Have you ever visited tumblr tho?
Bitches are a bunch of fujoshits and since the only other male option was a 13 year old, what better to make his ~evil counterpart~ another character to get fucked by.
Like really there's no impossibles in tumblr. And het is icky.

The painful reminder that we could have gotten a rock opera that had at least one song faithful to the Dr. Seuss Book

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpgUQYARIsw

One theory from the youtube comments suggests that this song was the 2nd part of the onceler's rise.

I miss the simpler times. You know, before LJ purged itself of all those radical activist groups and they decided to start invading tumblr around 2011.

I'd watch it.

LJ died a slow death because of the Russian takeover basically keeping it as a poor blogging platform.

LJ was popular because it was the best at the time, when better options showed up, LJ never changed.

Stuff like the boobnazi and Harry Potter child porn incidents weren't really the biggest motivators for desertion. The events just demonstrated that the angry women had LJ staff wrapped around their fingers. It's probably the main reason why the original LJ staff just jumped ship when the Russians offered them a buyout.

Okay so I found a blooper reel so I guess it was an actual costume. The hair perimeter still makes sense since he's basically in a fursuit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbT8wYXIEvs

I must've confused this movie with that one movie about a train going to the North Pole. I think it was Robin Williams as the conductor? I'm probably going to have to correct myself again after I look it up after I post. I remembered that there was a movie where one of the main actors had their face plastered with the stupid CG dot tracker things on his face even though as far as I can tell, the movie had zero reason to need CG on his face because it looked like typical make-up+costume. It was either the train movie or the Cat in the Hat.

>>
>>81607436
Isn't the Onceler suposed to be the villain? Like why did we need this guy? The point is supposed to be that the Onceler did some shitty stuff in the past due to greed and whatever and that now he regrets it. That's really all you need for a villain in this story. Why was it not just the Onceler's story with the kid story just being small clips between flashbacks?

What was wrong with the Jim Carrey Grinch? At least they kept the original story line intact and what they added thematically fit for the most part. The costumes and set design was also pretty good.

>What was the point of even making the Once-Ler sympathetic?

Gotta teach the kids that the people you really need to be scared of are "those" businessmen. The rest of the wealthy are like the Once-ler, they're your friends, they care about you and create jobs for you out of the goodness of their hearts.
>>
>>81614698
Stalin tried that.
Then he decided maor tanks was better, and his social club decided they really liked the Tzar's style.

Mao tried it, but then decided that the solution was just less people. A LOT less people.

The US tried it, but the only people who want to live that lifestyle are religious lunatics who don't want to pay taxes. Also the fact when you get a metric fuckload of clearcut land there's nothing to block the wind and keep soil in place.
>>
>>81629477
The Onceler isn't even a villain.
He was ignorant, first truly then willfully.

Its the nature of man when he just refuses to give a fuck rather than man himself.
>>
>>81607436
>WHAT IF THE LORAX HAD AN EVIL BUSINESSMAN ANTAGONIST WHO MAKES PEOPLE LITERALLY PAY FOR AIR

Dr Seuss would totally write that. But it would be in a different book about people avoiding problems. Like no one wants to stop making tons of money on smoke smocking so they keep pumping out more gas.

And instead of trying to reduce the gas to solve the problem they just pay to have fresh air pumped into their homes.

It'd likely end with the town so polluted that they have to run away from the town and leave all of the money and treasure behind.
