See, here's the thing; Superman is literally dying when he's exposed to Kryptonite. He's *in* pain, extreme pain, but he forces himself to continue through sheer willpower, just like normal people can; you hear stories (or used to,anyway) about a soldier, who, riddled with bullets, carries his wounded buddy miles from behind enemy lines to safety and medical help, or a fireman who ignores the burning agony to rescue someone from a burning building, before collapsing.
