You're looking at that logically instead of from a Tygra fanboy perspective. Pretty much the only later episodes that give Lion-O any respect were the ones written by his voice actor.
Will Friedle even lobbied to have Ben-Gali added to the cast to give Lion-O a proper role model but was shot down by the head writer because having more tigers would make Tygra less special.

I've seen that claim about Bengali mentioned before but never seen a source either. I'd be interested to see something backing it up.
On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me if that were true; there's definitely a difference in how Lion-O is treated between the episodes Will wrote and ones from the other writers. Plus there was a comics con panel about what they had planned for future episodes that were never made and some of the stuff from it is definitely unflattering to Lion-O.
Of course, there's also the fact that the petty dickishness of that staff in general is well-known. I don't have a screenshot of it but one of them threw a temper tantrum on DeviantArt because somebody pointed out elements of Pumyra's design that they didn't care for.

Sex appeal aside, can we agree at least in character design the new show was god-tier?
Already the original had the slight anime look, and this just made them look cooler. Lion-O looked nice, Cheetara was hot, Panthro looked badass and Tygra and the kids were fine. and that's not counting some of the one-offs.
It's a shame the writing was shit cause design-wise it was everything a reboot of the franchise needed.
