When it comes down to it. Let's face the facts zootopia won't be remembered as a classic. Time will tell. This movie will be forgotten in 50 years, and wrote of as an average family feature. At the end of the day it's just not remarkable. Sure it's high quality CG with a feels good ending that'll be great background noise in the long run. /co/ is just blowing up over it because waifus.

Truly the Batman vs. Superman of Disney CG films.

>>
>>81535737
OK let's see the bigger picture. Most of 4chan has collectively agreed that the only thing they liked about the movie was Judy, you can't have a single zootopia thread without it becoming iwanttofuckthebunny.jpg
>>
>>81535618
it will be remembered as "that furry movie"
>>
I liked the movie I did but the story has been done. The eventual sequal if it happens might be better than this one granted only if they decide to do something that hasn't been done already.
>>
>>81535910
so fucking what?you know there is a world beyond 4chan right? also wanting to fuck the bunny was one of the 2 things that made space jam memorable. zootopia will be more remembered than inside out

BvS has a 99% on RT?
>>
>>81535618
Nah, the movie is actually going to be pretty fondly remembered, not only is it a timeless story, but the characters are great, animation will stand the test of time, and, will likely be one of the first films to be adapted to VR in the some what distant future. It's also a pretty good representation of this decade. The frequent phone usage, the not-so-obscure references, the advertisements, and the architecture all lend themselves to a 2010'sish feel. It's got all the makings to be a classic.
>>
>>81535878
Because we don't make 20 threads at the same time.

I could see Zootopia being to our current time as something like Ferris Beuler's Day Off was to the 80's. A timeless feel good film that accurately represents the era. Also, the fact that it expresses a conflict and lesson that are very relevant yet not widely used in children's films.

It captures a moment and a feeling, but it's not a Bildungsroman like Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I don't think a lot of people will be smoking clove cigarettes and wondering "What's my sports convertible? What's my Chicago parade?"

But man, it doesn't have to be a cult hit. It's critically acclaimed, it has some GREAT jokes, and it's only the second released film to use Hyperion. It's a touchstone in a better Disney animation line-up.

No, seriously. They've power-slammed Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, Icebox Lesbian Power Hour, AND have a prestige piece coming up. It's too soon to tell if we're seeing something as potent as the post-Mermaid Disney Renaissance, but "Home on the Range" and "Chicken Little" are already a distant memory.

And, hey, glass half-full, it's ALREADY the #2 box office franchise in Disney Animation history. Fuckin' A.

Well put. Although I wasn't saying that people are going to look back at Zootopia as a masterpiece, simply that it'll manage to be timeless while also accurately representing a time period. Even though the technology, look, and even attitudes the characters have are all very modern, the core of the story will still be relatable for years to come.

I do think we're in the second (or would it be third) Golden Age of Disney animation. Hopefully it keeps up at least until the end of the decade, but ideally it'll go well into 2025.

Nah, it was a bad film. Problem with Rescuers (both of them) is that Disney thinks we give two shits about the stupid kids that need rescuing. They're boring and uninteresting. And the girl? Annoying voice. But the sequel? Gave more screen time to the boy instead of Bernard and Bianca (the protagonists). Plus the story was just boring whenever it focused on Bernard and Bianca. Little kids watching will find the story of a Beta Male proposing to his woman boring.

That and modern day adult men see marriage as a scam. So Bernard comes off as cringe inducing.

Honesty? The further back in the disney vault, the movies become worse. The stories are flat and cliche, the production value is crap, the music sounds worse and worse. Animation-wise they can be stellar, but how is that different from what modern CGI can do in terms of motion and expression?
>>
>>81538330
Don't be like that. The change was the right decision. They couldn't make the film we wanted at disney. It would have had a forced happy ending that probably wouldn't work.

It was the right decision to rewrite, as much as we like the original concept.
>>
>>81535618
Eh... I'm okay with this. People don't remember Big Hero 6 and I believe that was a way better movie than Zootopia. This is literally Chicken Little 2, or any other talking animal film. Zootopia is certainly not on a Toy Story or even Frozen level.
That said, neither is 99% of CG kids movies. Nobody even cares about Despicable Me, just "minions" and even that fad is dying. Hell, people haven't cared about Shrek in a loooong time.
Apparently Finding Nemo's still a thing, but when was the last time anyone cared about The Incredibles?
CGI has just become too industry standard, the titans that propelled it into it's spot now just aren't as impressive to people who grew up with it.

But to be fair, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who knows about The Jazz Singer anymore, aside from the fact that it's "problematic", so it's not like tragedy is unique to our time.

if you really thinking something doing as well as this with a leap forward like this will be forgotten completely, you're delusional.

maybe it wont be remembered for it's story, but it made leaps in technology for rendering fur and lighting and it will be remembered for that, professionally if nothing else. people will remember this because it hit a lot of problems we are having in modern society, whether or not you agree it did it well.

as for the threads, they'll continue too unless they're permanently banned. even then they'll just move somewhere else. flavor of the month is one thing but these threads have consistency so far with oc being made and even plenty of on topic discussion. despite it being a movie there's a graphic novel coming out and the blu-ray contents that'll kickstart if it begins to dwindle. despite some of the most heavy-handed moderation i've seen in awhile (i'm sure i've missed a bunch but still) it's still going far.

i've seen flavor of the month and it's not quite this fervent.

I agree, in the end the differences don't detract from the actual Zootopia experience.

Truly the greatest crime is the loss of Savage Seas
>>
>>81539034
Its not controversial at all though. We've been over this.
The shock collars are bad. The society's treatment of predators is bad, everything that happened to Nick is bad.

Theres nothing controversial about it. Dark =/= morally grey. The final product is much greyer than the proto-version.

Mind you I still want to see it, but its not like you say it is.
>>
>>81539067

Well they are different characters. We know prototype Judy was supposed to be pretty different from release version Judy. She was gonna be a more experienced hardass cop, so the Judy that we are getting is fitting to that.

And prototype Nick didn't seem like that slick of a conman. I mean he ran a themepark, with illegal aspects but he was still just a business man.

And I like the fact they are different. They still are believable even with their new personalities.

I personally prefer HTTYD as a film, but the characters in Zootopia are better.

Let me put it this way -- I never in a million years thought that Hiccup and Toothless would ever be knocked off the top of my 'favorite cartoon character' list until I saw Zootopia. Now I'd put Nick and Judy in a tie for first just above them. Also the side characters were better in Zootopia.

As a film-going experience I just love how HTTYD embodies what I want when I go to the theatre - powerful visuals, a solid story with good but not ham-fisted emotions, scenes where dialogue isn't needed, and a fucking fantastic soundtrack that was robbed of an Oscar by the fucking Social Network (yes -- I is still pissed).

Hes not really that weak. Hes kinda wimpy and came across a horribly mauled corpse. That would fuck with anybody.

That combined with the fact that he knew he couldn't let himself get upset by it or else the collar was gonna go off and he was just fucked.

And then he totally attacked Manchas to save Judy. That was pretty bad ass.
