Well in terms of her actually being better off, the crystal gems are better for her because they've exposed her to the good things this world has to offer like friendship, music, comedy, love, and Canadian tween drama shows. Where as with homeworld her life began and ended with completing a mission for a longnecked double Pompadour having banana colored bitch, who's basically what would result from Frieza and DIO having a baby and that baby squeezing out a giant kidney stone who dresses and acts like an 80s business woman.
In terms of enjoyability to watch she's pretty great either way. It was fun seeing her pull abilities out of her ass and watching the CGs try to deal with it. And he's pretty fun to watch her as a racist house cat too. I think having her join the team was good idea because now there's a lot of new stuff that we can see her do, like her first time fusing, learning to summon a weapon, getting a new outfit, maybe getting her own room in the temple. Lot's of good possibilities

The show needs another main character to extract feels from. That said, Perifags have surpassed Pearlfags when it comes to cancer.
She accomplished nothing as a villain, and is just as entertaining now as she was then, so I'm completely satisfied with her development and I hope she stays.
I also can't wait to see what happens to Jasper. She's in big trouble now and certainly can't go home, but I don't think appealing to self-preservation will work on her, it has to be a matter of honor for her to consider switching sides.
But Lapis really should not become a Crystal Gem so soon. She should be the hardest nut to crack. She has to acknowledge that she fucked up and she's not entirely an innocent victim, which may take a while. She's more interesting as a morally gray character in my opinion.

After her redemption arc I'm kind of sick of her, but I also wonder how much of that has to do with the hiatus. I've rewatched season 2 so many times over the last few months.
I was never an Invader Zim fan, so her humor is pretty hit or miss for me.

I wouldn't be half as invested in this show if it wasn't for the potential of more Peridot episodes.
I think she's gonna answer a lot of questions regarding homeworld, fusion, corrupted gems, and weapon summoning, so she's probably gonna be pretty useful to worldbuilding. She adds a new character dynamic to the team too,
by giving Steven a sibling-equivalent. She's one of the funnier characters to boot, I personally think that Log Date was the funniest episode of the show yet.
I'm really looking forward to the musical episode with the tap dancing scene that Sugar seems to be implying that she'll have.

Peridot misses homeworld, but finds Earth to be full of novel, informative experiences waiting to be explored. While she has effectively solidified her exile, she still holds a dedicated reverence to her place of origin.
Lapis is an angry, maladjusted bitch whose attitude only shifted to extreme depression and confusion when Homeworld turned out to be an entirely different place than she remembered. She's stuck without a home and longs for a past that no longer exists without hope for a future that possibly could.
I'm being a huge faggot, but I think a Lapis/Peridot fusion would have this reserved optimism about the future that presents itself as a "sullen" can do attitude. I don't know if there is a specific word for "sad optimism" but I'd imagine her acting with such a motivation. Her past cannot be retread and the future is uncertain, yet there are bright glimmers of hope that possibly sit on the horizon. There's a certain degree of respect for serendipity in her heart.

I just binged watched both seasons. Never even watched a single episode beforehand.
