I haven't read all of this stuff but I remember Owl being way to straight-laced and repressed to be sucking dick in a bathroom.
That one in the green is way too abstract for me, I like how silly and concrete the comics are, they absurd plots and characters covers any levels of surrealness you need in the comic I don't want the narrative and characters (these ones are not absurd like WW just strange and surreal) taking over that

The guy bookending that story looks like he lives in a nice big house, and is well taken care of, yet seems bored and aimless. His two activities are watching TV and playing music to himself. Even tho playing music is "doing something", it's just by himself in his bedroom, so both activities are equalized by being totally unseen by the outside world, both equally anti-social. If he doesn't update himself on social media, it would be like he doesn't exist.

because not only is it a cool Megg and Mogg story, taking a moment to explore what their lives might be like if something really fucked up and real happened that changed their lives, but it just shows how great Simon is at pacing. I love the abrubt changes in focus. There's the obvious metaphor of channel surfing, but it just connects different things so naturally. No matter if MMO is watercolored, linework on colored paper, or whatever, it takes me to that place. That world feels so real and lived in.
This is my favorite MMO story.

Everybody but Owl is an irredeemably horrible person. That's the comic. Owl is redeemably horrible, if he can get away from his friends he could actually make something of himself that wasn't an utter waste of food and water.

I've been re-reading my copy of Megahex, and I noticed that evenly space throughout the book there are about 5 instances of this same mix of colors used on Owl's happy pants. If I remember correctly, it's been used as vomit/beer stains, dorky pants like in this story, a literal painting, and at a lighter value, a panel in the beautiful car wash. Thought that was pretty cool.

I gotta disagree with this, Owl is just as horrible as everyone else in the comic, just in a way that allows him to semi-function in society (i.e. get and keep a job). He's the co-dependent type of human(ish) trash that you make the mistake of feeling bad for, then they latch onto you and the sympathy evaporates as you get a look at the real kind of person they are.

It's not a question of redeem-ability or horrible-ness.
On some level they all care about each other. But they're all incapable of exposing themselves or expressing any of that because they're all so hopelessly damaged and traumatized by their experiences.
A lot of this has to do with being forced to live in a culture and a system which they find abhorrent.
Make no mistake. Owl hates the 'real world' as much as his friends do. The only difference is that he isn't fully aware of just how unhappy it makes him.
But just like them, living in a juvenile dope-haze, isn't necessarily about hedonism or shirking responsibilities. It's more about fleeing psychological pain and defying social conventions.
So what do you guys think they'd sound like?

He used to cruise /co/ when MMO suddenly became very popular, I think it put him off how people took to the rape jokes. There's also a trigger warning on Megahex. He was trying to get into the international scene through the internet, probably figured if people were drawing lines in the sand about this stuff, he'd pick the side everyone around him is on (and that doesn't seem totally gross). Remember, it was his Tumblr account that made him popular.

I think these are pretty funny without really knowing anything, but if you read up on all the shit they're talking about, it paints a pretty good portrait of that comics scene at the time, which was, and still is, really fucking cool.
