They're pushing for it, but they need a successful Spiderman franchise for that to happen. Maybe with this new Sony/Marvel Spiderman already being established they can skip a bunch of story and goblin shit and go write into Venom.

Not like there's much to redeem. Venom/Brock is pretty bland and only popular because of his constume design, movie writers will always change his character quite a bit because of that.

Most people don't consider that Venom - both versions of him, Brock and Flash - are basically dark mirrors of Peter.
Brock is a bright young man who grows up in a cold, unloving family and wants nothing more than his father's approval, which he can never have. His life and livelihood are destroyed by forces beyond his control (he was pressured to 'expose' the wrong man, his wife left him, he lost his job, etc) and he blames spiderman, which is understandable for a man in such a position. He's struggling with depression and despair when the symbiote bonds with him and plays off those feelings because it's Tsundere for Spiderman.
Flash Thompson is the same - bright (they all attended a charter school, Flash was the jock but he had to be an above average student to even be in the same class as Peter) with an abusive and unnurturing home life that causes him to lash out. He's the inverse of Peter, a scared and angry kid trying to compensate by being alpha as fuck and a bully, whereas Peter represses his darker urges (except that one time which got his uncle killed, oops). Then he goes to war, gets fucked up and loses his legs and had mad PTSD
Both characters could by Byronic Heroes with a little nuance and development. But in generally they're just considered bullies or assholes, partially because a psychopathic alien is pumping them full of chemicals and partially because of author bias against jocks.
