Not really. Everyone only went to see it because of the strong word of mouth and ratings. "be-fur" thing was criticized a bit because so far it didn't look anything new.
Don't forget, no toys and not so good merch. Then that controversy that it was marketed to furry groups (did the marketing team/execs not feel confident towards the movie that they had to reach out to degenerates?). It was also released February/March and had to work its way around KFP3.

Talking animals appeal to the broadest demo set that Disney offers, and this movie is a massive hit that they seemed to not be expecting judging by low stocks of merch. Well. Yeah, I do kinda mind that.
One of the biggest draws for me is the ability to make the background black and text white. FFN allows you to do that instory but Ao3 only lets you do that if you have an account and set up specific user styles, which is frustrating for a technidiot like me who often reads on mobile.
Ao3, though, allows for tag searching, which is a huge boon.
