How was Zootropolis/Zootopia founded exactly? The movie seemed to imply its the only city of its type where predators and prey live together. Are there sentient animals elsewhere in the world?
I felt like the writers came up with far more background lore for this movie and it didn't make the cut.

I think it's pretty obvious that the writers went crazy with all sorts of ideas for the universe and probably went into some insane detail with a lot of things because they wanted this universe to be rich with all sorts of things.
Unfortunately most of that couldn't be the movie. Hopefully Zootopia 2 shows us where the avians, the amphibians and the reptiles live.

If they made up lore for the world most of it would've probably been for the older version. They had to come up with the final version fairly quickly, no time for that sort of thing.
I'm guessing it's kind of like republic city in Korra, a city built specifically to symbolize the peace between different mammals after a long war. Only in the older version that peace is a bit phony as the predators are kept oppressed. Maybe the sheep conspiracy had something to do with it.

I would love for it to be a game like Chulip; the city is living and you have to be at the right place at the right time to find someone to advance the story or get what you need. Some characters you can interract with have detailed schedules and you can do a stealthy steak out stalk them to know where they go.

The city was built around a waterhole. You can see it in that mural showing the lions and zebra making peace. It's the same one at the heart of the city, in that park between the train station, police HQ, and city hall.
It isn't just a symbolic city (the world would probably fall apart if they didn't save Zootopia) but it's like the Fertile Crescent. It's the birthplace of society and the first place people decided to stop fighting and each other and build a civilization.

Saw it with a friend of mine two weeks back, then I got a huge group of friends to see it with meFriday and they all really REALLY loved it. My brother wants to see it again even, and I'm so down for a third viewing. Might go tonight or sometime this week.

The "Express/train line" you're talking about is clearly indicated as the Bunnyburrows line, AND it is clearly indicated to have not one, but 9 stops, before it reaches Savanna Central, 4 of which are stops only for this line itself, so it couldn't be an oversight.

Zootopia 2 will focus on a hybrid animal dealing with the issues of being a crossbreed. Their inability to have children or their children more than likely going to be very fragile and weak, the distinction made against them because they aren't "natural" and addressing their own sense of torn nature between their two parents species instincts and feelings.
Pick what hybrid you'd want it to be.
