Which Supes did the artists start drawing comics to look like for at least a decade?

That one is best.

I like both,
Brandon Routh is just too coded gay and twinky for me
>>

It's really not a fair comparison since one was a lighthearted adaptation and the other was basically the Passion of the Kryptonian.

38 years on, Reeves rendition is still the go-to understood idea of what Superman is in the public conscience.

Cavil looks the part, but the writing has let him down wholly.

PS bring back the red trunks

Cavill is sexuality incarnate.

Reeves had the more faithful movies.

That depends, I'm still waiting for Cavill to really grow into the role.
Reeve Superman was the definitive Superman for sure, but I feel like once Superman finally learns the ropes in JL and Cavill really starts to work with the same role he could do some nice work. Even in his colder demeanor in BvS he still had the voice and mannerisms for a pissed off Superman down pat ("I'll take you in without breaking you" was delivered perfectly, for example).
But as it stands, as Superman working at his prime, Reeve is without equal

Reeves didn't really have the Superman build. Even prior to Cavil, when someone said that a person's built like Superman, it generally meant that they were /fit/ incarnate. That image of Superman, and of any generic superhero parodying him, like Metroman, Captain Sunshine, or Captain Hero, never really left the public consciousness.
>>
>>81354622
I actually like Henry a lot. I don't know who the better Supes is. But Christopher is the better Clark. Although his Clark probably wouldn't fit in the new one. Henry's Clark is like he can't turn Superman off and is literally just pretending to be Clark.
>>
>>81354622
Reeve by far. He really feels like Superman. Cavill's been good despite the script, but you don't get immersed in his role like Reeve.

This. Dude's got the look, he's not a bad actor, and in a better written and directed Superman film he could be great.

lets not beat around the bush. Everything that depicts Superman as Jesus is inherently depicting Jor-El as God

Which comic storylines were the Reeves movies faithful to? Because you can go through MoS or BvS and notice specific influences.
>>
>>81354622

Cavill has the physical appearance down better; his face looks like a comic book character's.

Every other category belongs to Reeve. He was a better Superman - and more importantly, he was a better Clark.
>>
>>81355086
>Implying that an alien from another planet who gets superpowers needs to look like a handsome human, or develop a body builder physique
Come now lad.
>>
Cavill. Although he's limited by Snyder's directing and shit script, especially in BvS when he had so little given to do except be depressed and shit.

But this reasoning is pretty flawed. With godtier script and directing i'm sure dozens of actors could play a good superman.
>>
>>81363196
>Supreme Galactic Ghost Advisor for Alien Jesus

Reeve's movies started that shit and I hate it.

Oh I know Snyder and heck, Singer went overboard with the forced comparisons but you gotta blame the root of all things too.

I think it's Bizarro. He has grey skin after all.

Superman had jesus imagery before anyone here was born and before Reeves became Superman.

>Which comic storylines were the Reeves movies faithful to?
>Reeves
>Storylines
Okay, first, Reeves is not that guy.
Christopher Reeve, is that guy.
George Reeves is pic related. I know, it can be confusing, but Christopher Reeve has no S. He has Hope.

Second: You know how a lot of people to this day say that Lord of the Rings is unfilmable, despite the fact that there were a ton of movies?
You know how everyone who says "it's totally filmable" tend to say that all the stuff that didn't end up in the movies were "not important"?

It's the same thing with Superman.
You can sit here, and make movies that follow the storylines of classic Superman comics until judgement day. Hell, you'll probably get a few really good movies in the deal. But just because it's the same storyline, doesn't mean it's the same story. Doesn't mean it's got the same core to it. If this was /tv/ I'd probably bring up something like Letters from Iwo Jima/Flags of our Fathers to show how the same story can be told in drastically different ways, but I'm assuming you get my point.

Superman isn't defined by any one of his storylines. If he was, then his storylines would be mutually exclusive. The moment you started dealing with a different storyline, you would no longer be faithful to him.
Instead, Superman is the spirit of those stories. What their point is, why they were written, what they wanted to say.

Zack Snyder can come along, and declare that "I will use this set up to do something completely different!" and all the power to him. I always hope he does something good with it. But that same moment, he's effectively throwing Superman out a window, and substituting something of his own creation.

He stops being faithful to Superman, because that's not what he wants to do.

This being said, I'm not saying all of the Reeve movies were faithful, nor am I the guy you replied to, but I think he does have a point.
