As someone who doesn't really know comics is this a good place to start reading batman?

I mean, there's better comics to read Batman wise, but it's ok as a start, especially since the trades will be easy to find. Morrison's run is better, but it requires a bit more meta-knowledge, though I started out on Batman Inc. and it worked alright.

Also, Morrison's run after Dick becomes Batman is fantastic, and it serves as a good jumping on point for his run in general. Their are some pretty Morrison concepts he throws around, but they're mostly subtext and not necessary to enjoy the story.
Snyder's The Black Mirror is also great for Dickbats, so maybe check that out.

Where would you start with Morrison?

You could start right from the beginning with Batman & Son of course, somewhere out there there's a torrent or a file folder that has all of Grant Morrison's Bat-Opera. Personally I think his Batman & Robin, when Nightwing takes over the mantle and Damien becomes Robin, is a bit easier a start, but you can choose either one.
