Alex has really grown on me. I like her relationship with J'onn and Kara.
I think one of the reasons the show got better after J'onn was revealed was because Alex actually had shit to do.
They also cut back on her two support teams helping her and telling her what to do quite a lot. It helped. The show has gotten a lot better but it's still not really all there yet and I think those early episodes left a bad taste in most peoples mouth.

To be fair, it's a inter-network crossover (as opposed to intra-network, a la the CWverse). There were probably any number of reasons why Barry had to be useless and garbage -- the primary one is that the point of this crossover isn't to bring The Flash more viewers, but to give Supergirl more viewers.

Not even Supergirl was properly showcased. I get the everyday man heroe, but this was not the time to use that trope. This was the time to have Flash and Supergirl beat the baddies together. They kinda show a little of this with the freeze breath-tornado arms attacks, but that was the only time in the episode that they worked together.

So, I basically just caught up on Supergirl for this whole crossover deal, and does anyone else feel that the show really suffers for not being able to use Superman at all?
Like, it seems kind of dickish for Superman to just leave the problem of an evil Kryptonian militia on Supergirl, among other things.
And a lot of the overly earnest confessional talks with [nearest available character, usually Cat Grant] seem like they'd fit better with Clark.

IIRC in tomorrow's episode, Flash goes back in time to have Reverse Flash!Wells teach him about going fast, and in the crossover he says he's been improving his speed and still isn't used to being that fast (hence why he and Kara were in an empty field after he rescued her) so I think this means the crossover takes place on his return trip from his time travel, so right after tomorrow's episode.

I love Melissa as Kara. I think she's perfect in the role, and I think Calista is great as her sardonic mentor. I think the relationship they've established between Kara and Alex seems genuine and I really liked how they dealt with their issues.
I actually think Kara's better written than anyone else on the CW. She feels like a genuine person and she sells Supergirl and Kara Danvers. She has hopes and dreams, fears and anger issues.

Yes, the CGI needs work (though it's gotten a lot better since the midseason). Yeah, they need to work on their villains, but they were serviceable. The "GRRL power" has been toned down to not be quite so clunky and overbearing, though. (And come on, Barry's crack about "let's settle this like women" was pretty good.)
But overall, it was just FUN. It was an hour of two heroes geeking out together, kicking some ass, and enjoying having someone to talk to. It felt like watching Barry's first appearance on Arrow - you could see the potential for a great show. I think Supergirl has that potential, they're just starting a bit rougher than the CW did.

That's kind of depressing, to be honest.
I watched the leaked Supergirl pilot before the premiere. Was thinking of at the very least checking out more, but I only caught half of episode 2 and wasn't super into it either. I hadn't exactly given up on the show, but I never really got around to watching more of it since I really wasn't that into it.
But during this month without any Flash or Arrow, I figured I might as well take the time to check out Supergirl again. Especially with the upcoming crossover.
And I am very glad that I did. Supergirl may have something of a rocky start but I honestly considers it a show that has gotten consistently better and better with every episode. And now all things considered I really love the show. Even though I didn't have much interest in it initially, I now consider it way up there together with the Flash. Yet if anything I can congratulate Supergirl in being more consistent while Flash and Arrow are much more rocky with their sharp ups and downs.
Anyhow. I loved the episode. And I am really glad that CW had a one month break right before the crossover. Otherwise I might have actually missed out on Supergirl.

One thing I really like about Supergirl, is that the show is based around CatCo in the centre.
Arrow's underground base and Flash's Star Labs, they work. I am not complaining.
But I do like how CatCo as the media effectively serves as a window to the outside world beyond the heroics. And I also like how it is occupied and driven by regular people, with Cat at the top.
It makes CatCo this very charming bridge between the super heroics and the rest of the world.

Just watched this, loved it. Hoping we get more stuff like this in the future, also hoping that Supergirl or a few of her rogues are allowed to appear on Flash.
I hope at least some people are going to give it a try, even if this crossover was weak. To put it in perspective, this episode has gotten more talkback than all the others combined.

In what way? The "fights" were laughably bad (and so were the effects), Banshee's origin was hamfisted as all hell, Barry didn't really do much of anything to the point where he could have easily been written out of the show and the only parts that were genuinely good was two or three cute lines between Kara and Barry and a jab at CW that were all already spoiled in previews. The episode was fucking shit, only redeeming factor was Kara and Barry being the cutest World's Finest.

Most of the actors are pretty good and have some depth to them. Its just the terrible writing (plus blunt character murder of Jimmy) and effects that bring the show down.
J'hon is seen as a big saving grace because he doesn't job and for the most part rarely shows up.

Frankly, comic book Jimmy in live action alongside Kara would be fucking painful. Better to have someone who at least can seem worldly to bounce off Toyman's son and the super wallflower.
