Jaune works pretty well as a leader. Even him being sorta shit helps out as this makes him able to concentrate and strategize more.
He's arguably the best leader so far (not including Cindy of course). I don't really remember any of the other leaders actually leading but that maybe because of time constraints and fight directing as well.

As a follower, he's shit. Well, Ozpin was a retard as well (No guards for comatose Amber, no locks, no traps, let Cinder get awa, didn't inform Jaune of info, actually brought Jaune along to super secret compound etc) Jaune still sorta got Amber killed.
Besides that as a leader he formed team JUSS, asked what was the sitch, cared about Pyrrha's pained cry, gave a good reason in not battling Cinder, called Weiss to ask for help, and somehow kept JNR together to go with Ruby.
That strike to Cinder was even pretty okay. He didn't hesitate or anything.

I don't know about that, the high parts are pretty much exactly why the show is still fucking alive.
RWBY vs the Nevermore in Vol 1 for example is pretty much unforgettable.
It's just that Vol 2 had a few legitimately good episodes in Mountain Glenn, character development and stuff, then all of No Brakes which was probably the best episode in the series so far.
It ended on Breach, which ruined everything and put a down note on the volume as a whole.

Yeah, it's not really the killing them off. Like, fine, Jaune will die and so will Ren and Nora.
But don't use their counterparts as a reason and then imagine their deaths as the same as how the people they were named after died.
It's really lazy and shit.
