Good evening owls of /co/,
Are you ready for dickery?
HERE WE GORebirth news blowout has dropped
>>81136250
So what's everyone's most excite book and their biggest surprise?
Priest on Deathstroke is really something, it's saying to him "See, we'll give you something that's not a Black Dude Book" and we know he writes a smart action book.
I have no idea what Superwoman is
The salt on twitter is feet thick, lol
>>81136250
>>81125644
>>81125677
All the teams
>>81136214
Hello Storyteller.
So, uh. Turns out that rumor was true. Greg Rucka is back on Winder Woman. With Nicola Scott on art. In full cautious optimism mode right now.
He talked about it a little on his Tumblr.
http://ruckawriter.tumblr.com/post/141734737228/explication-and-elaboration
I guess being interested in 1.5 DC books over 0 DC books is an improvement of a certain kind.
>>81136298
Also, Cully Hamner is drawing something, and he's totally excite for Kolins on Ted and Jaime
>>81136214
>Are you ready for dickery?
I am always up for Vril dickery
Let's get Rebirth shit out of the way
>Yea
Rucka Wonder Woman!!! Nicola Scott joining him!!!
Chris Priest Mr. Stroke!
Seeley Dick!
Orlando Supergirl!
Jenditti not on the Flash!
Giffen Blue Beetle!
>Nay
Justice League sounds super meh
Artemis in RHATO is a hell of a monkey's paw
No LOSH... YET
>I want to tear out my eyes and claw off my own face
why is Venditti still writing Hal, haven't I suffered enough? Fuck off!!!
>>81136298
Priest was a big surprise to me
I think he said that Deathstroke is gonna be pretty character driven is what he needs after being generically badass for so long
>>81136298
I definitely didn't expect WW to be the most exciting announcement and I'm hopeful for Blue Beetle and Supergirl. Kind of disappointed in most of the JL books though.
Priest on Deathstroke is amazing. I probably won't read it though.
>>81136298
Excited about Blue Beetle.
Agreed about being surprised that Priest is doing... anything, really.
Kind of frustrated that a lot of the good writers are on Batbooks since I'm not super into Batstuff.
Not sure if I could be excited or scared about the Legion rumors since it feels like so many Johns projects have been delayed into oblivion.
>>81136326
Yeah, I saw that. Complete with explanation of how and why, and I have a lot of confidence in Rucka to keep what's good from Azz and to fix what needs fixin', and his run sounds very explicitly structured to involve fixing but not revolve around it.
>>81136351
Which Artemis is it, mai waifu?
LOSH is basically confirmed for some form when Johns tweets #LongLiveTheLegion
Also, Seeley's using Middy and the Spiral crew in Nightwing
ZEALOT WHEN
I find it hilarious how Wondy is literally wearing her movie costume. That's some Star-Lord level shamelessness. Not that I'm complaining tho
>>81136298
I'm honestly shocked Priest is back at all. I don't give a shit about Deathstroke but I'll pick that up.
HYPED for Wonder Woman, storytiming Rucka's run at the moment, too.
Obviously I'm excited for Nightwing and Batman, but also Supergirl with Orlando.
And this might not be that common and opinion but I'm excited for both Titans and Teen Titans, I'm just such a sucker for them and Seeley is a good writer.
>>81136421
Yep, it's amazon Artemis.
>>81136421
>Which Artemis is it, mai waifu?
Yep, Waifu Artemis
being written by Lobdell!
the GL books make me want to weep
>>81136417
Legion announcement is probably delayed because it'll be affected in a Zero Hour-ish way. I hope it's not another rehash though. I just want new stories by someone decent.
So glad Orlando is carrying some plotline from her previous book.
>>81136421
MAI HUSBANDO IS HERE
All these n00bs who are ?? at people excited about Priest is kind of fun. Man, it better be good, but anon is right, character focus combined with action, and hopefully solid 10/10 silver fox
>>81136465
Ahhh, fuck this world. But I'm not gonna do like CA and ignore the odd fact that RHATO has an audience, and it's not all (or even most!) dudebros. So many women on twitter want to write Jason Todd. SO many.
>>81136298
The Priest bombshell had me shitting bricks. I'm fukken buying Deathstroke as long as he's on it.
I'm going from zero Superfam to 2, with Orlandogirl and CHINESE SUPERMAN FUCK YEAH
>>81136442
I don't know if anyone else sees it but both Batman and Superman's new duds look very close to the movie suits.
Hey storyteller, isn't Starfire in this later on?
>>81136298
I'm pleasantly surprised by Action Comics. I like Pre Flashpoint Lois and Clark.
Holy shit GA new artist draws Harcore porn not bad.
I'm still confused about the Superman stuff, so there's going to be two of them flying around? And of these two which one's Pre-FP Supes and which one's NuSupes?
>>81136455
>I'm excited for both Titans and Teen Titans
You know Abnett is really good at teams and is a continuity kinda guy, but Titans basically being a legacy/2nd gen character assemble so far just turns me off from it.
I'm hoping there's more like original characters, even just Hawk and Dove, Guardian, Bumblebee, anything, so it's not just Not-Batman, Not-Wonder Woman, Not-Green Arrow, etc.
>>81136298
Looking forward most to Blue Beetle and Super-Man.
>>81136497
Hah, I've just seen people going "He's rehashing her N52 stuff and ewww, he's a dude"
that New ASBAR has some killer artists lined up
>>81136421
>Yeah, I saw that. Complete with explanation of how and why, and I have a lot of confidence in Rucka to keep what's good from Azz and to fix what needs fixin', and his run sounds very explicitly structured to involve fixing but not revolve around it.
A lot of people are afraid that Ares will revert back to being a bland supervillain. These people surely didn't actually read Rucka's run. I'm just happy that someone who gives a shit is finally on the book. And the murderzons are no doubt going to be erased forever, thank goodness.
>Which Artemis is it, mai waifu?
Yes, unfortunately. I think there was some shit about her being part of some edgy Trinity. It's her. Because the universe must be balanced in all things.
>>81136513
So fashionable!
>>81136513
I had a laugh at that CA "DC PUT ANOTHER MIDDLE AGED WHITE GUY ON WONDER WOMAN!" article
It's... it's literally Greg Rucka, what more do you want
>>81136566
But isn't he gay too? Doesn't that count for anything anymore?
>>81136497
I tweeted at Johnson and Perkins about Supergirl and they said they still have plans to go back to her, don't know if that means concrete plans or just wishful thinking though.
>>81136552
No one can actually tell, some people think it's pre-new 52 in both books.
>>81136566
But i do miss Hank cyborg.
>>81136566
I'm still laughing at how it's called All Star Batman.
Like Snyder did Superman Unchained, why not call it Batman Unchained or something?
>>81136533
Yes she is
Hey, it's Amon Hakk, of the R.E.C.R.U.I.T.S.!
Will "Damian wants to be hardcore but the Teen Titans won't let him" destroy Percy, or not?
>>81136607
the author of that article wanted Bennett, badly
>>81136552
Yellow-belt/red boots feels like pre-Flashpoint Supes.
What's really weird is that it looks like both Action and Superman are both focused on pre-Flashpoint.
>>81136612
Bisexual, god. Step it up, sempai.
>>81136532
No net Superbook change for me. I was reading the Pak/Kuder run but I'll probably just swap that to Supergirl.
>Continues Hitch's Justice League
>Without him drawing it
Why.
>>81136607
What the fuck? Does CA even care about whether comics are good or not?
>>81136637
OK, OK, fine, point is, he's queer, which should still count for something.
>>81136513
>>81136566
Goddammit, Vril.
>>81136421
>LOSH is basically confirmed for some form when Johns tweets #LongLiveTheLegion
After reading Legion of Three Worlds, that's not remotely surprising. Johns is so obviously a huge Legion fan, so of course he'll fix it so that his darlings come back.
>>81136629
Okay, so how about Flash? Di Giandomenico drew most of All-New X-Factor, and some of Solid Frank. The talk of speedsters is making me hope for MAX MERCURY ZEN MASTER OF SPEED
>>81136629
That book is going to live or die on whether it's funny or just pathetic. I'm scared, but I hope for the best.
>>81136566
The Batfam lineup is strong for the most part. I could care less about Tom King on Batman though. So many things I would rather have him on.
>>81136629
>the author of that article wanted Bennett, badly
Yeah, no kidding
But Bennett has a problem with a lot of her characters sounding too samey and her books not differentiating a lot tonally, I know putting NEW YOUNG FEMALE VOICES on big characters is important but I'd rather have a good book over a diverse author
also Nicola Scott is there!
>>81136552
Solicits will probably clear it up. I think blue boots are pre-Flashpoint and red boots are new 52.
>>81136658
Of course not, don't you know comics are now all about political posturing and for showing off how nerdy you are?
God these captchas are killing me
>>81136629
>the author of that article wanted Bennett, badly
Yeah.. it's unfortunate if she were still recovering and not able to keep up or if the editor leaving made her be off the book, but it's Rucka. Literally wrote what a lot of people consider to be Wondy's greatest run. If not that, then one of the greatest.
>>81136629
A lot of people want Bennett badly and I'm not really sure why? Is it her prestige as a Snyder student? Her connections with others in the industry? Bombshells?
Her books do not immediately scream out good cape writer to me beyond that.
>>81136689
I saw someone fussing that none of Percy's work has lined up with "young" or "fun", and I wanted to be all WHEN IS THE LAST TIME A TT BOOK WAS FUN, MOTHERFUCKER?
>>81136697
Putting Black Magick on serious hiatus to do this is a big deal
>>81136692
I really don't give a shit about Bruce but at least it means once he writes something else it will sell well.
Hey thread!
Rucka and Scott doing Wonder Woman Year One is insane. Hype
All Star Batman is also perfect.
Orlando on Supergirl is surprising but I really want to see what it is.
Flash looks good for the first time in years, might be cool
Poor Tom King, Batman is gonna be so ugly. Poor guy
Nightwing I'm iffy on.
Batgirl looks fun.
Jessica Cruz/Simon Baz is up there with Super Sons as random team ups I didn't know I wanted
Blue Beetle should be fun
RIPD Wally
>>81136697
Woman artists =/= women writers. Big thing about lack of women writers these days. Rebirth only has a few.
>this smile
Diana is so cute!
I liked this bit from Rucka's Tumblr page.
>Please note that Diana is smiling.
>Because she does that.
Based.
>>81136742
It's entirely because she's probably the highest profile female writer at the moment. I like Bombshells but I'm positive no other thought is going into their consideration for her on Wondie.
>>81136747
>Putting Black Magick on serious hiatus to do this is a big deal
Yeah true, that's a bit of a shame, but this Wondy run is literally a dream project for both of them so it's understandable
>>81136742
She's a young, explicitly queer-friendly, feminist, female writer who's active on social media and has clearly made it into being something of an industry regular.
>>81136742
She's a woman writer, that's it. Just like some people here hate good writers just because they're women, people in the opposite side of the blogosphere love bad/mediocre writers just because they're women (see: Bennett, Noelle Stevenson, Kate leth, etc.)
>>81136764
I'm
>Batman
>Nightwing
>Batgirl and the Birds of Prey
>Supergirl
>Wonder Woman
>Trinity
>The Flash
>Suicide Squad
>The Hellblazer
>Deathstroke
>Blue Beetle
>Super Sons
>New Superman
On immediate pickup. Some other stuff maybe. All subject to a 3 issue rule. There was little bad in Rebirth (even that Lobdell Red Hood seems like it might have something with that Not!Trinity setup) but nothing that instantly sold me either.
I have a lot of time for Steve Orlando, the dude is a good and varied writer.
Thank you Dan. I knew he could comeback.
>>81136809
Oh yeah, Manapul's writing/drawing Trinity?
Also, lots of people seem not to have heard that there is more DCYou-likeish stuff coming later on, but that this launch is really about nailing some basics and getting some non-trash fire level sales.
Just a tip that if you happen to live in DFW do not ever order overnight shipping from Amazon.
/soapbox
>>81136810
You know Bennett lives with Noelle Stevenson, right? They're both really good friends with Kate Leth (Noelle is also dating a webcomic artist, Molly Ostertag). That's like an active circle of friendly professionals you're referring to.
>>81136787
>It's entirely because she's probably the highest profile female writer at the moment
Shit, is she really? You might be right
>>81136809
She also talks a pretty good game when it comes to Diana's character.
She's also got some experience writing her in Bombshells.
Meme magik too make BB last long.
>>81136791
I'm buying Black for the collaboration, so WW happening is like a big, happy bonus where I get more Rucka/Scott in the long run. Sweet deal for people who love comics.
>>81136742
She's a newer female writer who is very active on social media and is very outspoken
They probably want her to be the next Simone/KSD, i.e. "the female writer"
>>81136863
>Also, lots of people seem not to have heard that there is more DCYou-likeish stuff
Come on that is not a line you can sell to anybody.
>>81136863
>>Also, lots of people seem not to have heard that there is more DCYou-likeish stuff coming later on, but that this launch is really about nailing some basics and getting some non-trash fire level sales.
There is also New Super-Man which I have seen pretty much zero buzz about
I'm wondering if that Vertigo relaunch rumor isn't true, a lot of people said about some DCYou stuff that it would have been better suited to Vertigo
>>81136863
I'm like happy for him that he's on that book even tho I probably won't follow all of it
>>81136863
>Manapul's writing/drawing Trinity?
Clay Mann's on art duties too, which means at the very least everyone will look sexy as hell.
>>81136863
Oh yeah, BC posted an article about how Gotham Academy was missing from the Rebirth lineup, ignoring that it was later explicitly stated that they're still coming but not part of the Rebirth branding. Fucking pathetic job of doing any fact-checking.
>>81136298
There was less that was new than I was expecting. Really thought Jody Houser might have picked something up with DC.
>>81136787
>>81136870
Surely Wilson is a bigger deal, though she's Marvel-exclusive so off-the-table for the time being.
>>81136866
is it not really overnight?
>>81136868
That's kind of funny, because the CA article we've been talking about is scathing at Johns and Didio for talking about how they're friends with so many of the hires on stage there, and the problems of breaking in.
>>81136900
I mean just that there's more stuff to come, that this isn't everything for the next year or so. ANAD shows that you should not throw everything at the wall at once, either.
>>81136912
I hope Booch is coloring for him
why does Dan Jurgens still get work
>>81136863
I'm literally just on Trinity because it's going to look gorgeous.
>>81136909
There's literally zero hype for any kind of asians in anything, except where yonder waifu Cass is concerned. Not trendy.
I'm all over Super-Man, of course. Looks great.
>>81136957
Jurgens is not that bad. I think he is a better artist than writer.
>>81136957
He's reliable?
>>81136917
And Marcus To is on Nightwing, which is also going to be asses galore
this is my happy sigh
>>81136957
he's reliable and I've seen the Lois/Clark über alles brigade enthusing about him
How do you think Lobdell feels about being imprisoned inside of Red Hood?
>>81136957
it's kind of adorable they're just letting him go on Action Comics
>>81136957
tenure
>>81136978
True, Asians seem like they never count towards diversity
I haven't really seen much buzz for GLs with Baz and Jessica either, possibly because GL fans are all having meltdowns over the other book instead
>>81136809
I think that Bennett could potentially do very well with a book like these recent Vertigo horror launches.
>>81136946
>That's kind of funny, because the CA article we've been talking about is scathing at Johns and Didio for talking about how they're friends with so many of the hires on stage there, and the problems of breaking in.
Speaking of the panel, Amanda Conner was the nerdiest person on stage. She shpeaks like she's shuucking on a retainer.
It's also weird just how... normal Geoff Johns is. Was not expecting that.
Bizarro dan slott. ?? All-Star Batman w/ Scott Snyder & JRJR!!!
SOLD! SOLD! SOLD! INSTANT BUY! #DCRebirth
>>81136946
The company they use to deliver are inept liars that put your stuff down as delivered and signed for despite being neither, and you're lucky if you ever get your package after that. It's happened every time for me and I'm done giving them my money for nothing.
>>81136957
He's really not that bad, anon. Everyone loves his Booster Gold saga, don't they?
>>81136957
Confirmed for never having read '86-'92 Superman.
>>81137030
I can just imagine what CBR's John fans are doing right now
>>81137051
The love Snyder gets makes me feel ill.
>>81137060
That was more than 2 decades ago
>>81136772
Woman anything =/= Women writers, really. You could have an entire company run by women, with female editors, artists, colorists, and letterers, but having a male writer on a book would be a problem.
>>81137060
Confirmed for not wanting to.
>>81137030
http://community.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?72789-Baz-and-Cruz-are-getting-a-GL-title
>>81137054
that sucks, anon :(
"You're from Colu, aren't you"
>>81137010
He should feel bad for doing so much damage he had to be imprisoned.
>>81137076
There are some books made to have all-women creative teams, like Smut Peddler for instance, but I am surprised nobody has tried an imprint along those lines yet.
I kinda liked his Thor run. Thank you the anon who storytime a few months ago.
>>81137066
They aren't happy! But most of them seem resigned to John being a side character since, well, that always happens
Hal fans are pretty upset too, unsurprisingly, as are Kyle fans
>>81137090
That guy sure loves the sound of his own voice (or... sight of his own text, whatever)
>>81137075
And...?
>>81137083
Typical /co/ plebian.
This DC stuff feels very half / half.
Like they want to move forward but they are too stuck in the past to actually do it. A lot of creative teams also reflect this with a cool writer or artist but a bad pairing.
>>81137110
Oh, say hello to the Omega Men! We skipped a mini of theirs that ties into all that Starlin Rann-Thanagar stuff. I can go back if we really want to, some time.
>>81137090
>I hear it'll be a space based title, which is a no go for me.
Who the fuck are these weird people?
>>81137054
Eh, I know some people don't like his no-fun-allowed opinion when it comes to Blue and Gold, especially since it resulted in the mess that was New 52 Justice League International.
>>81136513
>10th level super intelligence
>10th level
Is he canonically the dumbass of the family?
>>81136978
>>81137030
Yang's book is going to die after like 5 issues
>>81137043
>It's also weird just how... normal Geoff Johns is. Was not expecting that.
I was surprised by how young Scott Snyder sounds. Like I know he's not old but wow
>>81137159
Sure
>>81137110
You think someone literally just converted a png to binary and imprinted it on her brain?
>>81137151
For not reading mediocre Superman comics from the early 90s? You aren't making that strong of a case.
>>81137128
I like the Romita Jr. parts of it.
>>81136629
>Will "Damian wants to be hardcore but the Teen Titans won't let him" destroy Percy, or not?
It's such a fun premise that I'm sure will go to shit because it's Teen Titans
>>81136678
I unironically really like the name and design of the new speedster killer.
>>81137147
EVS tweeted a great picture of Kyle and implied there were big plans for him. I'm hopeful!
>>81137198
>never read them
>calls them mediocre
Typical /co/ plebian.
>>81137043
Nigga, you missed the DC Cupcake Wars special? For shame.
>>81137170
Yes, but he's meaner and tougher than any of the others
>>81137212
Damian Wayne is my spirit animal. https://twitter.com/Benjamin_Percy/status/713564887692120064
>>81136988
I'm with whatever thread in which we declared the "jurgens" to be a unit of solid mediocrity.
>>81137170
He's as smart as Brainiac I initially was when the Intellect Levels were first introduced.
Course, halfway through that story, he got upgraded to 12th by Luthor. That story had quite a bit of dickery going on in it too.
>>81137230
Same
Hate how he's a speedster though
I DO hope that the speedforce storm or whatever makes the other speedsters like Jesse Quick at least...
>>81137235
I'm pretty wary of any BIG PLANS alleged for that book
Venditti's BIG PLANS in GL all amounted to jack shit and now there's going to be competing page space for several characters who all have rabid fans
>>81137266
My fault, but I stand by it.
>>81137265
I want to believe, but I'm just so worried
>>81137246
Dumb brute, but from a line of superintelligent beings? That's a fun idea.
>>81137266
it's great. he's a perfect pace setter
>>81137282
>now there's going to be competing page space for several characters who all have rabid fans
The fan wars resulting from it will be more entertaining than the book itself
>>81137266
THE NEGAJURGENS
I laughed so hard at that. I think I was drunk.
>>81137266
So Lobdell is worth 0.13 jurgens, Cullen Bunn is 1.3 jurgens, Meredith Finch is 0.04 jurgens, and Tomasi is 2.6 jurgens by my estimations
>>81137043
I felt bad for Philip Tan, who was clearly not coached to be aboard the hype train like everyone else.
>>81136900
I wonder if DCYou would have sold better if it had the Rebirth branding instead, but coming off of Convergence, it might have just confused people more than this situation did.
>>81137170
I can't help but feel the Coluan "levels" of intelligence are heavily biased towards scientific genius. I'd say Vril is the most cunning and knowledgeable when it comes to manipulating people.
>>81137241
There are enough parts of any comics and in this case enough time that when I have never ever heard anyone mentions Dan Jurgens comics whose taste I trust as anything other than mediocre Superhero comics, I lack a reason to be motivated to seek them out.
>>81137342
How many Jurgens does one have before they're no longer mediocre?
Batman and Superman & associated have strong lineups, and there are some other gems, but the JL stuff seems weak.
I am interested in what Sam Humphries really thinks of Bendis given a GL books was apparently enough to pull him away from being the protege.
>>81137246
Wow. you know instead of Batman DC should've just handed Tom King at least two space titles.
>>81137342
The Jurgens scale doesn't apply too well above 2.0, because once you get more than slightly better than one Jurgens, you can't be graded against him in any useful fashion. Two Jurgens taped together is effectively one Jurgens.
I'll take Venditti and Dogfucker over Taylor. Yes, I said that.
Oh man this was SUCH a fun little book - and then it got Flashpointed and we never saw Starros clone army in action. They were clones of Lobo, and supposedly they would've taken down the Main Man, who then would've had to use his bling bling rage power ring to become a Red Lantern to win the fight.
>>81137392
Hmmm... maybe like 5?
>>81137416
>an infinite number of Jurgens can fit inside a single Jurgens
>>81137418
I.... don't disagree
I mean, I want to shoot Venditti out of an airlock but I dislike Taylor even more
Y'know, I'm happy to see that Rucka will finally get to tell the Wondy story he always wanted to, even though I would have preferred someone new. After the Finches, I think this is exactly what Diana needs, someone to get things back on track and patch up some of the bullshit. And who better than a writer who had previously written an excellent run?
It's just nice that the Finches are gone. They're finally gone.
>>81137416
Fucking kek.
>>81137414
I can see why they gave him Batman, and why he wanted Batman, but yeah I'm in the same place. I don't give a fuck about Bruce Wayne.
>>81137414
I have high hopes (hiiiigh hopes~) that Tom King gets to write Something Else that he wants to, and that is L.E.G.I.O.N. or something like it.
Notable is that only a few people are on two books, compared to Marvel's Bendis 4, Lemire 4, Spencer soon to be 3, Ewing 3, etc.
>>81137451
i also agree with this comment
>>81137377
It's Superman's most consistent era by far, or do you prefer the rough beginnings of the Golden Age, the childish insanity of the Silver Age, the weird transitional period that was the Bronze Age, the Loeb-led early 2000's, the New Krypton mess, the Grounded era, or The New 52? The only era that comes even close is the Busiek/Johns era, and that was way too short-lived compared to the Triangle Era.
>>81137030
>True, Asians seem like they never count towards diversity
Except when it comes to Iron Fist.
>>81137341
That is seriously the coolest fucking spaceship.
>>81137522
it feels like instead of getting outraged over the white guy everybody just shrugged their shoulders
>>81137496
>notable that only a few people are on two books
Which I am ecstatic about. Make people focus on the stories they WANT to tell instead of letting them a bunch of filler books for the paycheck.
>>81137458
Let's hope that Meredith doesn't write anything else or at least contained on a character nobody cares about
Shame about David Finch on Batman tho
It's gonna be jarring, reading an issue with Finch art then Janin art.
>>81137496
>Notable is that only a few people are on two books, compared to Marvel's Bendis 4, Lemire 4, Spencer soon to be 3, Ewing 3, etc.
With all the double shipping it's probably harder to be on multiple books
although I am glad, it means good writers won't get spread thin and bad writers won't plague multiple books
>>81137521
I enjoyed a lot of the Bronze Age Superman I've read, actually.
>>81137496
It's a sly way to steer people who follow writers, into other characters.
I mean, most people follow characters, not writers, but there's absolutely shit I'm paying attention to because it's the writer's only title.
>>81137521
Why are you bringing up other Superman comics?
>>81137392
The Jurgens unit is a measurement of mediocrity so I feel a high Jurgens number is something even more mediocre than Jurgens (this might just be a theoretical measurement).
A low Jurgens number could be bad or good, I think?
>>81137562
She's either on Super Sons or JLA, no way they simply got rid of her if her husband is still at DC.
>>81137584
>even more mediocre than Jurgens
Can such a thing exist?
>>81137562
A great colorist can make Finch's art pretty tolerable. At least it's not Booth or Daniel that can't help but make everything disgusting.
>>81137496
>Notable is that only a few people are on two books, compared to Marvel's Bendis 4, Lemire 4, Spencer soon to be 3, Ewing 3, etc.
Do you think this means they're getting paid more?
>>81137584
This is correct because mediocre things are worse than Bad things and Good things.
>>81137496
so Dinah is finally meeting Ollie, too
>>81137624
Like I say, numbers above 1.0 Jurgens might just be theoretical.
>>81137576
It's not a bad era, but it is weirdly transitional, going from the insane Silver Age (Kryptonite No More anyone?) to the more grounded and evolved Post-Crisis (Clark moving up from the Daily Planet)
>>81137580
Do you lack reading comprehension or something? I literally just said why.
>>81137584
No, sub-Jurgens means "If Jurgens were writing this, it would be an objectively superior comic."
Every good writer is not mediocre, by definition, and can't be measured against Jurgens.
>>81137624
Jurgens is precisely in the middle of the scale of Good versus Terrible, he's the absolute zero of talent.
Which sounds a little more harsh than I meant it to.
>>81137496
Good god, LEGION's been taken over by fascists. Again.
>>81137617
I'm curious to see how she writes when she's not on the same team as her husband.
>>81137496
Vril has his own COMPUTO.
This entire family is made entirely of fuck ups, I swear.
>>81137562

This. I wouldn't wish that hack on my enemies. Even foes deserve a crappy writer who is at least TRYING.

>>81137646
I would say less entertaining over worse.
>>81137652
I love how that was literally the only line dropped to advertise that book.
>>81137685
oh goddammit, it's Threeboot Brainy
>>81137666
But a sub-Jurgens would be a bad writer, then? What about a good writer who writes a mediocre title?
>>81137683
Meredith on Twitter talking about Wondie being her "warrior sister" and shit was unbearable.
>>81137665
No I understand what you wrote that is where my confusion lies.
I don't care the average quality of monthly Superman comics. Or how good these 6 years are compared to the rest, it has no barring on if I am going to read those comics.
There is not enough time to read all the truly spectacular comics I want to read, why would I waste some with some Superman comics that are only better than other monthly Superman comics?
>>81136957
He's a filler writer. Not going to do anything impressive but he won't be bad either. You need guys like him in this business where some books are going to get published perpetually and you have to tell some kind of story.

I've also seen a lot of fussing about All House Style Art which seems a little unfair, but I guess the DCYou stuff did lean a little more experimental...but maybe they'd save more of that for a monthly?
>>81137727
Yes, you use sub-Jurgens language to refer to bad things. Please into become reading comprehensions.
>>81137751
Hi Quentin!
>>81137751
I'm not telling you to go read them because you should, I'm saying you shouldn't pass judgement on something you haven't read. Want to shit on the Triangle Era? Fine, go ahead, but at least have the decency of informing yourself before you do so.
>>81137676
They always have been.
>>81137788
>but maybe they'd save more of that for a monthly?
probably, or potential upcoming Vertigo stuff?
or maybe those folks wanted to get back to their creator owned things
>>81137788
New BOP artist seems both good and not exactly house style.
>>81137782
Threeboot Brainy had a buzzcut to start with.
>>81137788
From all the bitching over PM/IF's art, it's entirely a hipster thing where people aren't going to be pleased by any on-model OR off-model art.
>>81137834
That too--you've done a Big Two book for 12 issues, gotten some buzz, now go somewhere you own it and you'll make more eventual money, with your DC pagerates in the bank.
>>81137815
Yeah, I'm a big fan of having read something you're going to slag on.
>>81137788
I'd hardly call the former porn artist on Green Arrow house style. And well "not enough house style" was one of the complaints mentioned by retailers in that article.
>>81137796
How can you use Jurgens as a measurement of something bad, but not of something good? You're comparing both to the same unit of mediocrity.
>>81137713

No.
>>81137876
>former porn artist
This feels like a pretty dickishpun intendedway to classify it.
I mean 1. who gives a fuck if he drew porn? 2. who says he's stopped drawing porn because he's on DC? If you're using this as some kind of veiled criticism or shock statement you might as well go all the way and say he drew dom dickgirl porn too.
>>81137877
Do you rank sweets primarily on how salty they are, or ice cream on how spicy it is? How cold is a fire?
If you're a native speaker, just go to bed, you don't understand nuance in word use.
>>81137909
I don't think so. There was a Reboot Legion adventure with Vril, but it was the stranded in the past team, wasn't it?
>>81137933
I would like that to have happened.
>>81137864
When did Amon Hakk become such a dick?

She just literally doesn't care about the character at all. I don't get how the Finches stayed on for so long. Remember when David was talking about how Diana "isn't a feminist character". I swear, they must've been snorting coke.
>>81137713
On the one hand, pre-Shooter. On the other, pre-costume change.
Threeboot Brainy was pretty funny in LoTW, to be honest. Johns basically made him into Numbah 1 from Codename Kids Next Door. Which is what Threeboot should've been in the first place instead of trying to be completely serious.
>>81137948
>How cold is a fire?
All the damn time.
>>81137864
>>81137815
I have read Dan Jurgens comics though, are you going to tell me they are radically different from his other comics? Or on another level of quality?
Very few Big Two creators go through massive or even significant improvements over time, so even it if is slightly better than his writing on Thor it would only be passable and as such is still not worth looking into.
>>81137944
Most artists I know draw porn and PREFER to draw porn, in fact.

>>81137944
Honestly, it improves the experience. Batgirl could show up and be the most insipid thing ever, but I'd be relatively pacified imagining her with a massive dong.
>>81137956
Could've sworn Vril works with two other Brainiacs at some point. Might've been his son and Querl though.
>>81137967
It would've been interesting, but it never happened.
>>81137948
Bad and mediocre aren't the same category though.
Even your analogy is bad. Sweets can be salty, ice cream spicy, and you CAN classify a fire by how cold it is (it's not).
You say the scale of mediocrity can't apply to good things at high numbers, but can apply to bad things at low numbers. That doesn't make sense. The scale which goes from bad to mediocre must also include good at a sufficient point.
>>81137990

I am...really not quite down with "backpacking through Asia to ~find herself~" as a plot for much of anything in 2016. So many potential pitfalls, such little gain.
>>81137999
This Brainiac 5 isn't actually the descendant of this Brainiac 2 anyway is he?
>>81138044
I actively rolled my eyes at "Batgirl goes to Asia to find herself." It's something every other member of the Batfam does, so there's no point in shitposting over it, but man. It's 2016.
Oh hey I'm really, really disappointed that Valentine isn't writing anything but apparently she is at least doing a Xena comic. Poor girl could not possibly be more underrated.
>>81137980
As a big Wonder Woman fan I find a lot of people who AREN'T fans project this characterization of her being stern or a generic warrior woman, which is exactly why I hated Finch's book.

It is pretty shitty motivation but then again, worked for Bruce.
I suppose it could have been Batgirl backpacking through Asia to find someone else who was backpacking through Asia and went missing. Y'know, like some sort of actual detective story.

>>81138079
You are free to disagree but once you read enough middle the road Superhero comics they blend together something fierce and while I haven't read his Superman I probably have read it in composite pieces and references and a weird hulking shambling mass of other comics.
>>81138079
It always seems to fall to a bunch of cliches and stereotypes, yeah
How come nobody goes travelling in South America or Europe to ~find themselves~? It's ALWAYS going to Asia and then they end up fighting ninjas or school girls and training with some shriveled up martial arts master
>>81138161
I wish his Superman run wasn't marred by JRJr art, because I loved the issues he did with Porter, with the superhero wrestling. THAT, I want more of.
>>81138161
I want to be excited for Yang's book, but then I looked up the artist
>>81137788
Given that most of the books are kind of house styley cape stuff, I don't think it's out of place for the art to match tone.
>>81138125
And the difference is you aren't criticizing Bendis' current books so much as his overall behavior and audacity to take a lava dump over characters other people are trying to write.

>>81139306
I can't believe the Joker was Xorn's twin brother pretending to be Magneto pretending to be Xorn
>>81139306
lmao
>>81139288
I just sold the rights to an Angela movie, I don't have to work another day for the rest of my life!
>>81139395
That sounds pretty fucked up out of context.
>>81139248
She is totally a fanfic OC. If she didn't predate them by a thousand years, she could be Dawnstar and Wildfire's kid. .... Actually, considering Validus, it's not impossible that she COULD be.
>>81139269
>Let him.
DICK.
>>81139364
>she hasn't realized the fuji corollary
>orgasms whenever she jumps up and down a little
>>81139407
now THAT is a king continuity clusterfuck.
>>81139364
Very Mass Effect looking suit there.
>>81139395
Very MGS mental block there.
>>81139447
I mean, the point is that Querl stuck the Legion as the paradigm for the new recruits into Vril's head
>>81139484
La Le Gi On Lo
Can't believe the Joker wasThomas Wayne
>>81139402
Wait I thought 10th level intelligence was average on Colu.
>>81139521
I like you anon.
Her name is fucking Wildstar, how did I never get the shipping there before
>>81139534
At this point, is there anyone who ISN'T Thomas Wayne?
>>81139591
Martha Wayne?
>>81139519
>I mean, the point is that Querl stuck the Legion as the paradigm for the new recruits into Vril's head
Which only makes it better, because it means Vril ships Dawny/Drake. Low moral fiber, good taste in ships.
>>81139559
Brainy's family averages 12 I think.
Can't believe the Joker wasboth 616 Miles Morales AND F.A.C.A.D.E.! Based Cereal King closing other people's open threads!
>>81139591
I don't think Dick has been Thomas Wayne
Though if Bruce and Dick's ages get closer together then he might be Bruce's dad in the next couple reboots.
>>81139591
I can't believe that Thomas Wayne was Joe Chill
>>81139521
dammit, anon
>>81139609
>Low moral fiber, good taste in ships.
Is that a corollary?
>>81139634
>don't trust anyone
>not even yourself
>>81139521
tee hee
>>81139634
But how can Thomas Wayne be Joe Chill when Alfred is Joe Chill?
>>81139677
FUCK YEAH STRATA TIME
>>81139686
Joe Chill is actually two people fused into one, like Firestorm.
>>81139623
I can't believe the Joker was Superboy Prime, the Time Trapper, AND Kang
>>81139634
I can't believe that Thomas Wayne fathered the entire Justice League! When was he ever on Themyscira???
>>81139686
Easily, because Thomas Wayne is also Alfred.
>>81139715
"Aw, Vril, whose life did you ruin THIS time?"
Truer words have never been spoken.
>>81139705
>Firestorm is an annoying character
>Joe Chill is an annoying character
>Joe Chill is two people fused into one
I can't believe Joe Chill is Firestorm, it makes perfect sense
>>81139718
Wayne sperm travels very far
>>81139718
Obviously his Kryptonian powers allow him to be in many places at once.
>>81139686
There is one Joe Chill every generation

He can also travel the multiverse by utilizing the speed force, allowing him to father heroes on multiple worlds.
>>81138951
oh Vril
>>81139863
It's not a comic with Vril in it if half the time you're not thinking "Dammit, Vril"

...There's a baby? Go Strata.
>>81139728
>"Aw, Vril, whose life did you ruin THIS time?"
Oh Strata. True though.
>>81139818
>well this storytime went on a tangent I'd never foreseen
Right? It's a tangent that's going to eat up the post limit if people don't KNOCK IT THE FUCK OFF.
>>81139919
I can't believe the Joker doesn't know the bump limit doesn't prevent people from posting.
>>81139936

Sure
>>81139799
oh, nice!
>>81139919
You should've known this would happen with the Rebirth news.

Not even cranky anon is as annoying as the Joker

I forgot about edgy Starro

>>81140558
>>81140582
>Dominators
Obligatory.
>>81140541
I think the age breakdown, barring retcons, is:
Damian and Wally - 12
Raven and Beast Boy - actual teens
Starfire - babysitter
>>81140704
Not in one of /co/'s /ss/ threads.
>>81140745
this is so confusing but I really, really hope it goes less angst and more fun
>>81140693
>Second panel
What's he worried about. He doesn't have a damn face.
>>81140541
She couldn't even be on the big Titans team with Dick and the rest lol
So is she on the Teen Titans babysitting them because of that TT v JL movie or something
>>81140693
Are the Teen Titans beyond redemption?
>>81140745
So basically Johns' Titans
>>81140786
Oh Vril
I just saw someone on twitter answer the "Are there any black creators?" without mentioning Priest, but I'm not going to be the rando hopping in
>>81140745
Starfire doesn't strike me as babysitter material, but maybe that's just me.
>>81140264
I can't believe the Joker needs attention so badly.
>>81140745
She's not even the leader, either.
>>81140809
No way. It's not the characters' fault they keep getting writers who don't know what they're doing.
>>81140809
It's a book that has chewed up and spit out any number of well-intentioned attempts at it
>>81140809
As a comic, yes
>>81140830
I wonder if theres gonna be any people asking why Priest isn't on Cyborg
>>81140786
>>81140805
It's blatantly Teen Titans Go with Wally subbed in as the black guy because of the Cyborg promotion.
>>81140830
Considering an actual, living black man was on the JL panel, what are you supposed to even say?so black they marked him absent at night school
>>81140834
>>81140848
It looks like TT is gonna be the cartoon-pandering team and Titans will be the old-school original team, especially if the rumor of old Wally being in Titans Hunt is true.
>>81140834
Cliff Baker disagrees.
>>81140821
Johns had a few more babysitters around but yeah.
>>81140927
That makes them both pandering. Sadface.
>>81140909
>>81140870
speaking of Cyborg I wonder if David Walker is going Marvel exclusive or something, he's done with Cyborg already and he wasn't announced on anything today
>>81140909
To be fair, I think the person answering the question was one of those new-fangled fans who refuses to read anything from before 2010 or so.
>>81140927
>It looks like TT is gonna be the cartoon-pandering team
I feel so bad for Tim then lol
Seems to have gotten booted on TT and Batman Beyond is apparently about Terry
At least Tynion likes the 90s so maybe he'll write Tim/Cass/Steph like they were back in the late 90s/early 00s
>>81140982
>If I don't read everything from the New 52, will I understand Rebirth?
>>81140968
He is steadily heading towards being Marvel's Black Dudes Book Guy now
>>81140968
He probably is gonna be.
He's writing like 2 or 3 books with black guys.
Nice to see Marvel having their black writer tho.
>>81141034
But Marvel already has a Black Writer!
>>81141048
>>81141034
What's he on other than Power Man & Iron Fist?
>>81140982
I have a very difficult time being fair to people who aren't actually fair to the medium (oh god, why is it so hard to convince people there were LBGT-friendly comics before 2014), but that's why you're the card-carrying adult and I coast.
>>81141055
They hadn't hired a black writer in years before Walker came around. Or is that a Bendis joke?
>>81140927
>old-school original team
Which, as we all now, included Miss Martian. Who for some reason looks a lot like Ragman these days.
>>81140967
Nigga, EVERYTHING is, to a certain extent, pandering. Do you like a thing? Then the people who made that thing are almost certainly pandering to a target demographic that likes said thing, which you are a part of.
Everyone seriously needs to stop bitching about pandering. Y'all acting like marketing is suddenly some unforgivable act of evil, for fucks sake.
>>81141063
He's going to be doing Nighthawk
Not the one we met in Thunderbolts, I think this one is from Supreme Power, and he's a brutal black vigilante (that's in the pitch)
>>81141055
If TNC decides he likes writing comics and makes it a regular thing, I guarantee he finds his future success in the indie space.
And I really don't think he'll be anything other than occasional, he has so much prestige to do anything.
>>81141081
A former friend of mine once insisted that I was wrong about comics not being as sexist as she claimed, despite her literally never reading a comic book in her life.
These people are far more interested in complaining than actually learning anything.
>>81141143
>Everyone seriously needs to stop bitching about pandering. Y'all acting like marketing is suddenly some unforgivable act of evil, for fucks sake.
It a symptom of lazy ass writing and all too often used as a substitute for effort and skill.
>>81141175
TNC talking up best X-Era on Twitter had me excited. Let that dude at Storm marvel
>>81141143
That's who the green girl is on Titans? I was guessing maybe Lilith with a weird mask.
That's really weird but I love M'gann.
>>81141160
we're fucked
are we near bump limit?
>>81141233
Yeah it's either Lilith or M'gann
If they are going for original Titans, like before NTT, then it's Lilith.
>>81141143
I didn't even know that was Miss Martian until you told me.
>>81141209
Yeah but that's not a problem with pandering, that's a problem with shitty writing. Pandering and quality of writing are two mutually exclusive things.
>>81141245
We're on the final countdown.
>>81141245

>It a symptom of lazy ass writing and all too often used as a substitute for effort and skill.
That's the fault of the writers, not the new demographic they are attempting to target. If the writers are being lazy idiots, then it's the writers who should take the blame.
See, the whole backlash against pandering comes off as more comic fans being bitchy little shits that companies are trying to appeal to someone else, and not them exclusively. Possessive little sweaty neckbeards, the lot of you.
>>81141458
Hi Vril!
>>81141327
Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.
Hopefully that eventual Legion book also comes with a new L.E.G.I.O.N book.
I really hope Rucka Wondy Round 2 turns out well. I'm just glad the Finches are finally gone though.
>>81141458

Hey guys, is LOSH any good? I've never read any of it.
Wait I did read John's reorigin from his superman run around 7 years ago
And the back stories from Morrison's superman

yes
>>81141327

>>81141524
Like Vril would give shit about comic drama.
>>81142209
You're coming out of nowhere with that. The conversation was about cartoon synergy and NTTfags not social politics. Follow the replies.
>>81142164
I'm of the opinion that no, it's usually not terribly good. It makes me appreciate the gems like DnA's LeLo, but it's an intersection of weak sci-fi and weak cape comics most of the time. It's so old, tradition hold it back.
