Now this is just getting ridiculous. This currently has a worse RT score than The Room.

Even Snyder couldn't have fucked up THAT bad... could he?

Is the money that Disney is using to pay reviewers to give this a bad score coming out of Civil War's advertising budget?

The Room is a bad movie that's incredibly entertaining. BvS is a mediocre movie that makes you wish it would just end, but then doesn't, it just keeps going and going and at no point gives you any reason to care about what's happening beyond like 3 good scenes in the whole 2 and a half hour long runtime.

I'd rather watch 2 hours of Tommy Wissaeu awkwardly throwing a football around with his bros than sit through yet another scene of characters drearily pontificating.

This shouldnt of happened, THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE FUCKING HAPPENED! How do you fuck this up? We got a director who had the tools at his disposal to kickstart the DCEU, and he ultimately used those tools so he could wank off to his own "clever" symbolism. But of course WB is also to blame, because they felt the need to shoehorn every fucking setup for the next 3 years so they could play catch up and not once thinking it may be too much too soon. Fuck WB, Fuck Synder, and Fuck everyone involved who screwed over Cavill and Ben for trying to salvage it

The WB? No. They made too many bad investments for the last... what, 15 years now? Remember when they bought America Online? Then that crashed. Then they bought Time Magazine because, you know, the magazine industry was just doing fantastic. Then their movie studio started releasing dud after dud while they invested more and more money into each one. Like... normally I would say Warner Brothers is "too big to fail" but holy crap they have made some phenomenally poor decisions so I don't know exactly WHAT will happen. Probably start shuttering divisions and studios and selling them off?

Zack Snyder, September 18th 2015:

>I feel like he’s right. But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman. They’re not just, like, the flavour of the week Ant-Man – not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?

Sebastian Stan, December 5, 2015:

>I would say we’re still making something very original in our own way. I mean, the Russos are coming in and taking something people are used to and they’re shaping it up and changing it in a very different way. They’re not trying to mimic a better Christopher Nolan movie or something like that.

WB is a giant company that has many different offshoots, so yeah.

DC franchises ... probably yeah. They still make tons of money on games (Arkham series is successful, Injustice was successful, DC universe online... is that still a thing? not sure), they have cartoons, etc.

Their comics is outsold by Marvel but neither of big 2 actually make that much money on actual comics anyway. And they are still the 2nd most successful comics company, they are in no danger to be outsold by, say, Image or Dark Horse.

DC movies - I guess that depends on how SS and WW will do. They will not cancel those.

>>81060388
If you ignore all the memes thrown out in defense, a lot of the complaints seem to be centered around the fact that the movie's first two acts are a jumbled (and even worse, tedious) mess of wooden speeches and sequel hooks.

That's not the kind of flaw that gets better with time and hindsight. That's a little too objective to be just a knee-jerk disappointment reaction. If anything the forgiveness of that kind of flaw is what fades over time.
>>
>>81059789
It's a mostly mediocre movie with good and bad parts to it, but it was hyped up to a ridiculous degree so it's mostly going to be viewed as disappointing at best.

It's basically Thor movies and Age of Ultron tier but Marvel has good and favorably looked upon movies, no Snyder, and established relationships, so people overlook it or think it's just fine.

I am going to be honest here.

I was hoping for a great movie and I liked enough Man of Steel.

But BvS is just a chore, from editing to most of acting.
I liked Batfleck and will watch his trilogy (if it still happens) but this is definitely a bad movie.

What I am trying to say, imagine if you wereiexpecting a premium steak at fancy restaurant but instead waiter brings you expired chicken with mint sauce, pineapples and onions.

4/10 from me.

in order to break a billion it needs to make the predicted $350m global this weekend, but you need to understand that comes from in some areas 3 extra days of release (it came out on the 23 and 24 in a couple of dozen countries)

if it isn't doing well there and the reviews put people off, it cannot make $350m this weekend, which means it cannot break a billion because the formula for predicting each successive week is (roughly) half what it made in the previous week, not including the extra days of release prior to the first weekend

so if you make 100 the first week, you'll make 50 the next, 25, 12.5, 6.25, 3.125, and so on until you're making very little after about three months and you stop showing; the very rare exceptions to this make relatively shallow drops between weeks, and sometimes show increases on the second or third weekend over the preceding weeks; they don't make money solidly for three months, however, and there is always a tail-off effect as audiences seek something new out instead

however with the weekend Zootopia just had, it's likely a lot of people will go see that again instead of this; so it's going to lose out there, and it's true that there isn't a lot of direct competition this weekend but there are still alternatives with better reviews and now word of mouth, all of which hurts this release

in any case with a global first weekend of $350m, since the 4 days following tend to be 50%, it could only have been projected for $1,050,000,000 - and that was prior to the reviewlocaust; say it makes $200m this weekend world wide (which is respectable) it'll end up on something like $600m after three months, which is a big gross - but not big enough for what they've spent

Marvel is much safer than DC due to the overall tone of their comics.

Marvel is much more easy going and less grimdark than DC which means it is easier to mix a lot of popular genres like comedy, drama, romance and uplifitng themes.

DC digged their grimdark hole and their paragon that SHOULDN'T be grimdark (Supes) got a movie that ends with 9/11 times hundred.

I know. But WB put all its weight on a broken leg. Sony did the exact same thing.

These things need more heart than this. I know it's tiresome at this point, but both FOX and DC need their own version of Feige. Despite anything anyone might have against him, he defends the directors and understands the source material well enough for it to work, and Disney always goes for the long game.

Marvel Studios is just the new Pixar or Animation studios, and it shows in their hierarchy, the guy that goes to set and picks everything talks to the CEO directly, there are no layers of suits in the middle. Unless the times where there are (the more 'important' movies financially, where they kind of fuck up (IM2/3,Ultron), but even now they've kicked everyone out but the directors and Feige, who reports only to bob iger. I guess they do have someone, but it's Snyder :-/

DC and FOX don't have that luxury, and by god does it show. Only their indie shit that isn't on the balance of losing the rights the producers care nothing about actually get surprising results (Deadpool).

Im actually livid at the incompetence WB has shown the past couple of years. But the sad thing is if and when they finally unfuck themselves no one will care.
>>
>>81060719
Bruce was yelling in his face, dude, you'd do the same
>>
The thing that stuns me is that the problems in BvS are the exact same problems with Man of Steel.
- The pacing consists of a plodding and tedious first two acts with a bum rush of action for the entirety of the third.
- The actors given performances that consist entirely of wooden expository soliloquies rife with symbolism and overacted hammy catch phrases in lieu of characterization
- Plot points aren't explored to any meaningful resolution, because "this will be covered it in the next one"
- A frantic disjointed narrative of scenes that don't build on each other, visually stunning perhaps, but like a jigsaw puzzle made from a dozen different sets.

(Notice I said absolutely nothing about tone or humor and people will still pretend that's what I'm talking about).

The writing was on the wall with the LAST movie and none of those flaws were fixed. And yes, critics DID point out those flaws last time around too. How could they not? They were painfully obvious!

>>
If DC and Didio don't demand their own studio with minimal WB oversight after this, then they are officially retarded.
>>
>>81060605
Civil War won't fail because it can coast on Winter Soldier and Avengers hype.

Strange won't fail because of Cumberbund and the fact that Marvel has turned even C-listers like the Guardians into a box office smash. Hell, even Ant-Man did well enough to get a sequel added to the line up.

If anything is going to underperform, it's probably going to be Inhumans, at which point Marvel will have blown its load on Infinity War and most people won't be as invested anymore.

It's not about failing, it's about the fact that it won't even get a chance to be shown to the general audience. China has a strict limit on foreign movies, I doubt the local market would take a risk like Panther.
>>
>>81060605
Honestly, with their new slew of directors, I don't see it happening. Maybe Avengers 3 slightly underperforms, but there's no 'flop' ahead of them, really. Only Derrickson and Reed are the weak links, but the former has Feige looking over him to put on his favorite hero and the latter has already proven himself with the first ant-man.

Disney knows how to play the critics game and how to keep people coming back: make reasonably good movies with good characters. Their "flop" was Age of Ultron, and it wasn't that bad at all.
>>
>>81060683
That's not good. Marvel has always had a greater stranglehold in Asia (thanks to all their bug superheroes) and that only got stronger with Iron Man and AoU pandering to them.

only a nut would do that

did you never learn this? someone who is screaming in your face is trying to provoke you into anger, because when you're angry you just react - you don't plan, you don't use that fabulous grey matter of yours, you just react

which means if they've planned ahead they will be getting you to react according to their plan, not in any way that could possibly benefit you

>but

listen, if the whole of the last three years was about Batman getting crunk with his buddies and trying to glass Superman outside the club, we could have just had a movie about that instead without all of the rest of this shit
>>
>>81060767

>DC and FOX don't have that luxury, and by god does it show. Only their indie shit that isn't on the balance of losing the rights the producers care nothing about actually get surprising results (Deadpool).
In the case of Deadpool, Reynolds was their Feige equivalent. He want to bat for that movie so much it was fucking ridiculous. I honestly feel like buying a second ticket even if I don't make use of it just to support his effort.
>>

>>
>>81060744
It could happen the opposite, they will definitely compare both movies and I can see them giving Civil War some bonus points for not botching it like BvS even if its just super mediocre.
>>
>>81060823

Well, there goes a potential $200 million.
>>
Warner Bros probably makes (and spends) more money on Game of Thrones (and HBO on general) than this.

And it's probably good. We've got the Golden Age of TV, while on cinema side, we got shit like BvS and all the YA crap.
>>
>>81060807
I honestly have no idea. I don't think a lot of people fit the bill, honestly. George Miller or Bruce Timm?

But then there's the problem that that producer will answer to the 3 guys before the guy that pays for it, so it's more than just that.
>>
>>81060904
I hope. The movie would get pushed back a year though.
>>
>>81060744
Dude Civil War is going to be compared to BvS and that alone will make people want to see it.

Civil War could end up mediocre like Age of Ultron but it not being BvS will give it an advantage.

I don't think that Marvel is going release a flop. Remember that they have Feige in charge of the whole MCU. That guy knows his stuff. WB has non of that. They gave to much power to Snyder and it shows.
>>
>>81061027
They would laugh at Bruce Timm out of the room. DC needs a Marvel Studios of their own. WB will make sure that never happens.
>>
>>81061018
I still don't get how "iconic" translates to "good movie" in people's minds. I'm more of a Marvel guy, and that seems like a very "DC" thought process, so maybe I just don't get it. But haven't we been shown this enough already, with relative no-name superheroes debuting to rave reviews, and famous ones being in shit? There is no correlation between the two things. Ultimately, the most "iconic" characters are the ones that have been in the larger public consciousness the longest. That's it.

Almost all of the positive reviews of The Room are ironic "so bad its good" reviews. Nobody really thinks it's a good movie.

Kind of dumb for RT to code those as "fresh" reviews, though. It'd be more accurate if any review putting something in the "so bad it's good" category counted as a negative one, even if the critic enjoyed it.
