I think its time for us to all admit Superman Returns was better than Man of Steel and more than likely BvS.
>>
Reminder there's still time to make MoS+BvS Earth-3 and bring Routh back as Superman to beat them

But memes aside, I did enjoy Returns despite its issues.
>>
I've been championing Returns for awhile, it's solid. Flawed yes but solid
>>
>>81005409
The plane rescue sequence is some of the best Supermanning we've ever gotten. The rest of the movie is odd though.
And yet another Lex real estate scam.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xiwISrp1H4
>>
It was snore-fest with a stupid plot and the only redeeming thing was the plane scene, get over it
>>
>>81005409
/tv/ has gone made with memes
>>
Superman Returns was my favorite Superman based movie in the past decade or so.

And the first few seasons of Smallville remain the best origin story for Clark.
>>
>>81005409
It still cracks me up that Lois' actress in Superman Returns is 10 years younger than the actress they picked for Man of Steel/BvS. And Returns is supposed to take place after Lois and Superman have known each other for years.
>>
>>81005837
>Superman Returns was my favorite Superman based movie in the past decade or so.
Damn, it literally came out a decade ago.
>>
>>81005995
Amy Adams looks old as fuck even in MoS. Terrible choice for Lois.
>>
>>81005712
No, I think anyone would rather be in MoS than being saddled with Felicity and Hawkgirl. Fuck man, Bosworth Lois was trash too. He's cursed.
>>
>>81006024
I think that's the fault of the MoS filters. Adams looked great in American Hustle that was out around the same time but MoS made her look like shit.
>>
>>81005409
It certainly was.

What those dogs did to each other was some messed up shit.
>>
>>81006233
She looked old as shit in American Hustler.

That bathroom scene looked like Hangover was gonna go down on some odors grandmother.
>>
>>81005409
Nope still garbage.

Any movie that starts with an old lady talking about fucking Kevin Spacey is awful
>>
>>81005498
is that a meme
i didnt know about that meme but i want that to happen

routh>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.cavill
>>
>>81005409
Not even close. At least to MoS anyway, BvS' is either on a whole new level of disconnect with RT or just genuinely bad.
>>
>>81006742
I don't think it's a meme yet but I've said it at least twice today
>>
>>81006798
>or just genuinely bad.
It's a snyder movie, of course its bad
>>
>>81006800
ok lets keep saying it

Reminder there's still time to make MoS+BvS Earth-3 and bring Routh back as Superman to beat them

seriously hes so cute

i guess hes pretty busy with LoT and such
but do you guys think that, that aside, DC wouldnt want him simply because he's recently portrayed a totally different character for them?

even if its in different extended universes
>>
>>81005409
>Superman Returns was better than Man of Steel

No. Man of steel was great.
>>
>>81008058
Lots of people do TV and movies at the same time, just have to schedule it during the off-season.

>but do you guys think that, that aside, DC wouldnt want him simply because he's recently portrayed a totally different character for them?

I don't think they'd give a fuck if it would make them money
>>
>>81005409
I felt sympathy for rouths superman and it was atmospheric. Him saving the plane and metropolis was good too but fuck everything else
>>
>>81005409
If you really think so, like for real and not shitposting.
Then theres no hope for DC to ever get a fair chance of moving on.
Its always back to the proved and safe, you people are literally afraid of trying to aim higher than nostalgia and quips.
>>
>>81005776
Wait, are we talking about Superman Returns or DKR?
>>
>>81008266
>you people are literally afraid of trying to aim higher than nostalgia and quips.

This
>>
>>81005409
It's hard to say which is better. They both had different problems.

Superman Returns was an interesting theme that was hampered by an unambitious slavery to 30-year-old films. The idea of exploring a world that no longer needs Superman and Superman's consequent anomie and loss of purpose is interesting. Too bad nothing came of it because the movie was restricted by the fact that none of the actors had good material to work with and stretch their legs with. Routh never got the chance to play Superman, because he had to play Christopher Reeve playing Superman. You could even feel that Spacey was bored out of his mind with playing Gene Hackman's Luthor. And the script could had done more to explore the idea of Superman navigating a world that no longer needs him that just having him spy on his ex and try to break up her family.

Man of Steel made the right choice in making a clean break from the past films, but it doesn't do anything interesting with its themes and just becomes a poorly done typical origin story smushed together with a cliched alien invasion story.
>>
>>81006024
I have no problem with Adams as an actor in the role. She did the best she could with the material.

The script just doesn't give her much of a personality or any definition beyond her relation to Superman. It feels superficially like they tried to establish that she's more than "just a love interest" by putting her in a heroic role in some scenes and having her spout some stock sassy lines at the beginning. And while that's a start, it means nothing if the character is still flat and underdeveloped.
>>
>>81008266
the real problem is that movies are like event books and no one likes them anyway so of course no one would like movies

adapt serial fiction serially
>>
>>81005409
Nah returns was shit
>>
>>81006798

9.1/10 on imdb
>>
>>81005640
That scene did make the movie for me, it was something you'd only see in a superman movie. Of course there was nothing like it in Man of Steel because we had to have more room for fight scenes and angst.
>>
>>81008734
oh right the imdb that 2500 reviews a week before the movie came out

Superman returns isn't a good film. This historical revisionism is getting tired.

Some scenes did capture the entirety of what it meant to be Superman. Others, well, others missed the point entirely. The saving grace for the film was the Airplane scene and the entirety of Kevin Spacey's performance.

The movie was sluggish, pensive without depth, and felt like an apology for some grievance I'm not sure anyone actually experienced.

"Sorry I've been gone."
Sorry, we didn't miss you.

Damn, I remember seeing it in theaters with my mom when I was 9. Time really flies.
>>
>>81005409
It did some things pretty solidly, but it was pretty boring because of the plot.

I didn't mind Routh as Superman, but he needed to bulk up a bit more. The saving people parts were super solid, though. Bastard Superman kid was not.

also, it has one of the best trailers ever

>this bad score counts
>this good one doesn't!
>>
>>81008528
>>81009031
These, pretty much. Not to mention the writing was so wrapped up in the basic premise that it never adequately explained why Clark would leave Earth over a slim chance in the first place. You'd think Singer would find time to fit a scene or two of that into the beginning, but no. Clearly scenes of Clark skulking around Lois and fiance were more important.
>>
>>81005409
You're an idiot
>>
>now I will steal this magical tube that transmutes other land into crystals
>BUT I will add kryptonite, so that I can make an entire continent of uninhabitable radioactive rock
>That way I can finally kill Superman and then probably get killed myself, either from long exposure to this fucking kryptonite continent or by militaries around the world because I just killed millions of their people with my land stealing plan who are probably coming to strike back as we speak.
>>
>>81005409
A boring unneeded sequel.

>>
>>81008767
You could have that in a Thor movie, or an Iron Man movie.
>>
>>81005409
Stop this now.

Bryan Singer's Donner fetishism and extraordinarily wierd attempt to turn Superman into Gatsby is by far one of the fucking dumbest things ever done.
>>
>>81005498
I....I...didn't know I wanted this so badly until you said it.

Jeezuz...that would fix EVERYTHING.
>>
>>81005776
Fuck off Goyer...
>>
>>81005409
Superman returns is still shit, OP. Sorry

>>81005524
You can champion it for the rest of eternity. Wont make it not shit
>>
So this is what it feels like when people retroactively start to claim a shitty movie is actually good all along.

There's like, maybe two or three good/decent scenes in the entire thing, the rest is either boring or flat-out terrible.
>>
I would say the tone is a bit better than MOS, but everything with Lois and Superman's kid is so stupid and Luthor's evil plot is uninteresting.
>>
>>81005409
admit? we've been lamenting it. it was just a little footnote and love letter to the original movies.. it should not be the best superman movie for years before or after. that's fucked up.
>>81010340
the fuck is wrong with donner fetishism? what ELSE is there? so far, nothing. when you're starving, you think back to meals long ago. you don't look forward to new meals coming to you when you're free, things you've never had before.
>>
>>81010279
thor can't fly
>>81008767
it was apologizing for superman 3 and 4, as well as the general state of cape films post-70s
>>
>>81008266

>Aim higher

Man of Steel didn't aim higher, it didn't even fire a shot. Man of Steel was trying to be a mouth piece for "what if jesus walked among man" and it didn't even place the most important piece of the equation in the movie: The people. Lemme take you back to a movie called Avengers: Forget the quips, forget disney, forget your childish biases and remember a tiny scene involving a waitress and a TV camera. She told the people of Captain Americas heroics, she was the perspective of the terrified masses and those who witnessed someone saving them. Man of Steel didn't have that. In an era of social media and blogs and the ability to put your opinion out to the world at your finger tips they didn't think to put one scene in the movie where a random citizen speaks out about a man in blue and a cape? No, we got Lois gingerly soft balling it in private and a girl saying he's hot after he snaps Zods neck.
>>
>>81005995
>>81006233
>>81005837

What cracks me up is that a freakoftheweek bit actress from the fourth episode of Smallville became the newest Lois Lane almost a decade later. Remember? Amy Adams was the fat girl.
>>
>>81005409

Eh. I'll take Canon Film's Superman 4: The Quest for Peace over Superman: Deadbeat Dad Returns.
>>
>>81010856
>the fuck is wrong with donner fetishism?
Donner had his time to shine with Superman. The Richard Williams theme is iconic, but it doesn't define Superman. Neither do the visual elements Donner brought to the table.

Superman should not be defined by these dated representations of the character. He's far too timeless for that.
>>
>>81011039

No, thanks.

Superman Returns was always better than Man of Steel. It just didn't have enough Dragon Ball Z shit in it to appease the autistic crowd.
>>
>>81005846
Goddamn it stop trying to make every single capeshit male actor gay, you faggots.
>>
>>81005409
Haha, no. Superman Returns is the Spider-Man 3 of it's franchise where MoS is ASM2. You can kick and moan and cry about it, it will ALWAYS be the most disappointing and biggest bomb of it's franchise in recent history.
>>
>>81010856
>what ELSE is there?

I for one would like to get a Post-Crisis/S:TAS-feeling movie one day.

MoS was supposed to be that but instead we got a sad drama about Homeless Jesusman.
>>
>>81008142
looking very Aiden English there

Dunno, try actually reading a comic and you might know
>>
>>81012828
Lois and Clark is the closest we'll get in live action
>>
>>81012774
So Superman Returns was a disappointing conclusion to a trilogy while MoS was utter fucking dogshit?
>>
>>81007562
>I genuinely like Snyder's work

decisions
>>
To be honest, they both pretty bad. I would rate MoS 5/10 and Returns 6/10.

But godamn stalker man eavesdropping and stalking Lois for half a movie with his super hearing and x-ray vision.
>>
>>81005409
This is about as retarded as people who are (or pretend to be) disappointed by The Force Awakens now saying that the Star Wars prequels were good or at least better than TFA.

The moderation has only gotten worse since moot stepped down. God forbid you mention anything slightly off-topic in a thread.
>>
>>81014104
And yet, they let all the superhero movie company war shit run wild yesterday.

It's funny because in /tv/ is the opposite.
Porn and borderline CP threads stay for hours and hours.
Also for some reason they focus more on waifu threads than in actual, completely irrelevant threads, while waifu threads in /co/ are completely allowed.
>>
>>81014129
Because nobody bothers to check their work. Things started to go downhill when moot expanded the ranks, but I don't even think Hiro holds anyone accountable.

Amen to that. How a romcom TV show with superhero coating managed to get the characters better than two big budget movies is beyond me, but here we are.
