Can anyone recommend any god-tier DC comics for me? I really want to get into more of them because I feel like I have too many marvel right now.

Current ongoings?
If you can handle faggotry midnighters book is pretty dank
>>
>>80944194

Any particular characters you're interested in?

What kind of story are you looking for?
>>
>>80944472
Well, I really like stories that more on the darker and gritty side so that would be appreciated. Any character would fine with me as long as it's DC.
>>
>>80944194
I am a marvel fan myself and I really enjoyed the Geoff Johns run of Aquaman starting with the nu52. As much as i was not a fan of aquaman that and peter davids super 90s beard aquaman run really call to me. But i mean i'm a marvel fan the moment i see peter davids name on a fucking dc comic my interest perks right up.

Captain atom was also cool but holy hell was it cut short.

Oh if you check out ANYTHING from dc thats ongoing check out grant morrisons Action comics run or if you dont care about nu52 ongoing shit go back a few years and start with his batman run.
espescially the batman and robin shit where it was dick grayson as batman.

Gail simone batgirl is also pretty rad and though others will say im a fucking lunatic for liking it I dug the early issues of Batman by scott snyder that ive read. The court of owls story kicked ass, i love capullos art in it (makes up for having to work on spawn for so long) and thought they were great street level stories.

>darker and gritty side

Ennis' Hitman
Ostrander's Suicide Squad (and his Spectre run is also damn good)
GCPD
Morrison's Doom Patrol (dark, but goes more for psychedelic weirdness than "grit")

And then Hellblazer is technically under the Vertigo imprint, but read that too.
>>
>>80944631
>darker and gritty
gail simones secret six was a blast. A story about just b and c list bad guys. And furthermore John Ostranders original run of Suicide squad. If you want dark and gritty those will give you dark and gritty.

Oh and the alan moore swamp thing. That is about as dark as you can get. hell even the nu52 swamp thing is pretty damn good.
>>
>>80944685
I've actually read the court of owls, it was a pretty awesome story. OP here, by the way.

Was about to contribute, but literally everything posted here is awesome and totally worth picking up and I have nothing really else to contribute that hasn't been mentioned.
>>
I have been just non-stop looking up all these suggestions, I might start with either Gotham Central or Ostrander's Suicide Squad.

Not OP, but can someone recommend God Tier Supes and Flash runs, pre 52.
>>
>>80945956
Gotham central might be a bad idea. not because it sucks, its amazing. But itll make you hurt everytime you think about the show gotham...and how much fucking better that show would be if it followed the ideas and themes of gotham central instead of being a prequel.
>>
>>80946033
I'm not a big DC reader but one run i have read that was as amazing as people told me was Mark Waids run on flash. Volume 2 starting with issue 62.

Bryan Q. Miller's Batgirl is fantastic - and if you like Ms. Marvel or many of the current Marvel fun female-led titles, it's sort of like a prototype (though really well done) of that style of story and character.
>>

Thanks bro, added to the backlog.
>>
Twilight
Enigma
The Shadow by Helfer, Sienkiewicz and Baker
>>
>>80944194
>pic unrelated.

I originally felt that way too but Gotham has grown into something else entirely.
>>
>>80946033
>God tier Flash
Flash has a rich lore and mythos, so to get the most out of it you really need to read all of it.

Personally, if you can deal with it, I would start in the silver age.

#104, #123, #139, #275 - 284, #323 - 327, #340-350

Then read Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Then onto Wally, which is bronze age #19 and 62-Fin.

The early Barry Allen Silver Age book is actually great. There is a very good quality scan available but I also read the hard cover at my local library. It's very breezy and not really very close to what's on the CW now (but enjoyable - TV Barry is actually a combination of Wally and not really much of what makes Barry, well Barry).

I really liked the art on the Ni52 run, tho.

What is Infinite City? Was that a run, like Camelot Falls or a cross-over like Final Night? I don't think I've ever come across a trade with that title, so I assume it's not been scanned?

Not sure I would agree about War of the Worlds on this list, there are some good parts but it's mostly lots of loud action sequences and probably went on for too long.

I would add the last batch of Adventure of Superman (non-continuity) run from just a few years ago to any of these >>80946533 lists.

Pleb detected. Gotham is amazing now that it's found its groove.
>>
>>80947717
The Tornado's Path is a pretty good trade, again, I found that at my library. It's Tornado centric, but more about the JLA (and to an extent the JSA).

I can't think if there was ever an actual Tornado solo and if so it may have been a Silver Age book?
>>
I bought the first voulme of Johns' Flash run. Can I start Wally there or should I go back and read the earlier stuff?
>>
Also, why is it that DC has been consistently putting out some great books for a while now, but all that sells is Marvel? DC is even cheaper.
>>
>>80949160

Cultural bias against DC.

Why do other publishers have sales even lower than DC, despite having a level of quality higher than DC?

Is it possible that there is no correlation between popularity and quality?
>>
>>80947243
Hooooly fucking shit. I had no idea the asking price for the first volume was so high now. Fuck, just torrent it.
>>
>>80949613
I guess I just don't get why Modern Marvel is so popular. I mean, yeah they have sucessful movies, but those movies are all based on runs better than what's currently available. And I'm not saying that DC has a higher level of quality than all those publishers, just that they seem better than marvel.
>>
>>80949700
Why do people start reading Marvel and DC in the first place? It's not because they want the best stories. It's because they want the Biggest Names. Batman and Spider-Man and Superman and Wolverine are names that you know, your parents know, your neighbors know, your peers know, everybody you know knows. The more people that know them, the more desirable they become. Since Marvel movies are more popular than DC movies, it's only natural that Marvel comics thus become "better" than DC comics.
