Now that Disney is rebooting The Black Cauldron
Can we agree that Eilonwy was the best princess without pandering grils

>Now that Disney is rebooting The Black Cauldron
Wait, what? Really?
>>
>>80867389
i 'll believe it when i see it. and i'll probably hate it sadly. though i guarantee it does at least three things better than the original did.

in any case eilonwy is great but i dunno about those eyes, she kinda needs her sweetly ditzy eyes.
>>
>>80867389
Yep, live action this time.

I'm a little leery because there are five books in the series, but I'm not sure if they could garner enough interest to get them all produced. Even Narnia could only get three out the door before being dropped. I'm thinking they might try to combine some of them (like they did with the animated feature by combining the first two books), or they're going to gamble and see where they land with the first movie and go from there.

Do you have a link to a press release or something?
>>

Not OP, but I did just randomly see this.
http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2016/03/18/disney-returns-to-the-black-cauldron-with-chronicles-of-prydain-movie/
>Three decades after the release of “The Black Cauldron,” Disney has reacquired the rights to the children’s fantasy novels on which it is based.

>Variety reports the studio is in early development on an adaptation of “The Chronicles of Prydain,” the five-book series by author Lloyd Alexander that draws upon Welsh mythology to tell the coming-of-age story of Taran, a lowly assistant pig-keeper who dreams of becoming a hero.

>The first two novels, “The Book of Three” and “The Black Cauldron,” were previously adapted by Disney by as the 1985 animated fantasy adventure “The Black Cauldron,” in which the evil Horned King tries to secure a magical cauldron that will allow him to conquer the world.

>That version was a box-office bomb, grossing just $21 million worldwide on a $44 million budget.
>>
>>80868323
>reacquired the rights
wait, so somebody else had them for a while? and they didnt use them??
>>
>>80868323
Thanks.

"Early development" means that this project is in the very early stages, and will only see the light of day years later, if at all. So I guess I'm not too worried.
>>
>>80868323

Here's hoping we get Atlantis and Treasure Planet movies too, so they also get second chances at fame.
>>
>>80868411
you're keeding right
>>
>>80868411
Honestly, I'm already tired of Disney's new practice of adapting all of their old animated films as live-action extravaganzas
>>
So does this mean BC stands a chance of getting into Kingdom Hearts 3? Hope they make up their minds soon since John Hurt had cancer a while ago and Horned King won't sound nearly as terrifying without John's raspy omnious voice.
>>
>>80868471
>>80868486

But they're films that had good concepts but got shat on for being different like BC, so why not give other "failures" another live-action chance?
>>
>>80868517
what? you cannot lump them together
atlantis was fine and people liked it fine, but it was kinda weird in that post-lionkingy way that nobody likes. just a bit ugly, just a bit unengaging.
treasure planet was thoroughly ugly and looked boringly dry. i never watched it
black cauldron was perfect except hacked to bits by the editors

But who will make the video game this time? Sierra is no more.

(the game was better than the movie incidentally)
>>
>>80868630

TP did have more meat though, what with the character drama between Jim and Silver.
>>
>>80868672

Disney Infinity figures and hopefully the original movie getting a Kingdom Hearts 3 world to gather more interest into the IP like Tron in 2 I think. Sucks that we'll get a figure based on the live-action Horned King instead of the classic animated one like with Maleficent in 2.0 cashing in on the shitty Angelina Jolie movie.

can you guess which concept art of Taran they used
>>
>>80868672
>the game was better than the movie

Well, the movie was kinda meh. Eilonwy and Papa Bones were the only good things about it.
>>
>>80866898

>Blonde hair
>Cute British accent
>Sockless shoes

Unf

>>80868927
Your forgot

>Nowhere near enough porn
>>
>>80868927
red-gold hair! and wasnt she barefoot in the book? I wanna say she was at least that KIND of quirky.
>>
>>80869016
Yeah, she was barefoot in the book and quirky too. Probably one of my first literary waifus
>>
This movie was boring and generic as shit.
>>
>>80869100

At least it had great atmosphere unique to most Disney films. Like a darker Sleeping Beauty.
>>
>>80867834
To be fair, most of the Narnia books are really unfit for theatrical release.
>>
>>80867834

can we at least get John Hurt back to voice The Horned King?
>>
Why can I already see the first trailer for this just BRIMMING with cg creatures and bright and colorful cg backgrounds...
>>
>>80870464

It'll probably be Hugo Weaving in a shitload of make-up.
>>
>>80868517
Black Cauldron is based on a set of previously popular books that have yet to be adapted well. Treasure Island has been adapted well plenty, I don't want it to get a tacky coat of sci-fi paint again. People aren't interested in Atlantis's glowing crystal bullshit culture or shitty A-Team, sorry.
>>
>>80870831
eh the glowing crystal bullshit culture part of atlantis was cool. it was just all the horsefaces i couldnt be down with.
>>
>>80868379
No, they just expired and nobody bothered getting the rights again

>>80868486
Indeed. Would rather have them go back to doing theme park movies. Build a cinematic universe around the Society of Explorers and Adventurers or make a Journey into Imagination movie based on the comics.

>>80868517
Treasure Island was Disney's third version of that book after the 1950s live action film that created the stereotypical pirate accent and the Muppet version. They've done enough.
>>
>>80872195
*Treasure Planet

>>80870831
>>80870897
Glowing Crystal stuff has been an Atlantis trope since the early 20th century. Some New Age weirdo made it up.

Its gonna be shit. damn crappy child actors
sad.
>>
>>80867834
>>80870074
Walden's starting up Narnia movies again with Silver Chair, but recasting everyone.
>>
>>80872488
That sounds ridiculous. They've waited too long, and now they expect audiences to notice them? It's going to bomb
>>
>>80872488

They should have done the magician's nephew as the next one
>>
>>80872433
>child actors
in this day and age i imagine theyll just hire 20somethings and say theyre teenagers
still if we can get a scatterbrained mouthrunning barefoot eilonwy i'll be happy.
>>
>>80866898
On the one hand, this is one film that I think would actually benefit from a reboot as a live action film simply because its darker elements didn't merge well with its animation and the directors can rexplore the lost potential that made the original crash and burn.

On the other hand
>child actors and reboots
>>
>>80874046
That would work for "16" year olds, but I think both leads here were younger than 12 so that's out.
>>
>>80874124
that's what i mean, they would just change it. that's how disney rolls now.

i doubt theyll get a proper straw-haired bristlebearded fflewddur fflam either
>>
>>80874141
you say 'the' as if they aren't all like that
>>
>>80874402
Reading this is like watching someone whose only knowledge of English is through watching old sitcoms try to give a speech. The right words are there but that's it.
>>
>>80872195

What about a Kingdom Hearts Cinematic Universe?
>>
>>80866898

We need more pics of this princess
>>
Let's use this thread instead to talk about what a shit Gurgi is and how he ruined the film
