For starters, he managed to save the superhero genre from extinction by kicking off the silver age in Showcase #4.
Then once COIE rolled around, he sacrificed his life to save the universe, and he's played a key roll in every crisis since. He helped Bart fight Superboy Prime in Infinite Crisis and he outran death to help defeat Darkseid in Final Crisis.
