Has very different posture, too. Superman has his head forward, he's ready, going at you, Clark is sort of slack shouldered and wimpy.

I'm sure Clark can cover his ass while looking like a mild-mannered reporter.

I'm trying not to take this too seriously, but...

OK, there are HUGE differences between people recognizing a movie star (even one who is in a well-advertised movie) and people recognizing a superhero.

ESPECIALLY when that superhero isn't just some random hero you see on the news, but literally lives in and patrols your city.

Seriously, if a clear image of Superman's face exists in a universe, and he spends at least 25-30% of his time in Metropolis, he'd get caught. Period. End of discussion.

If you say Clark is just a great actor or he's some kind of shapeshifter, then sure, I can deal with that. But with just a pair of glasses? C'mon.
>>
>>80824111

Absolute garbage.

I get his point that he wasn't being swamped in Times Square, but that doesn't make up for it

But that's wrong you fucking idiot.

>looser clothing to conceal physique

>different posture

>different tone of voice

>different hair style

>glasses serve dual purpose of obscuring facial features and making Clark's eyes seem less intense

There's a psychological component to his disguise as well. Think about this from the perspective of the average citizen. It's common knowledge that Superman is an alien from the planet Krypton whose real name is Kal-El. And he doesn't wear a mask. Most people just assume that he doesn't HAVE a civilian identity.

Even if people did know that he did, do you really think they would expect to find a guy like that in the cubicle next door?

Besides, as Henry so helpfully demonstrated, celebrities pull this shit off all the time by doing so much less. Nobody expects to see famous people right next to them, and there aren't many people who actively seek them out.
>>
>>80826997

>>
>>80824111
Why would people think Superman has an alter ego within the universe? He's an alien. For all they know he's Superman 24/7 and just watches over Earth from space or something. People wouldn't suspect Clark Kent cause they aren't looking for him.

>>
>>80827373
Well if you had a co-worker who kinda looked like Brad pitt would you think that's Brad pitt.
>>
>>80827282
Even the Bruce/Batman thing is stupid. Like people saying people would recognize Bruce is Batman cause of the mole on Affleck's cheek. It's not like anyone is taking hi-res up close pictures of Batman's face and the only one's who get close enough to him to get a good look at his mug either already know he's Bruce Wayne or are criminals who no one would believe anyway.
>>
>>80827430

If we lived in the same city and Brad Pitt constantly has to swoop in and save Not-Brad Pitts coworkers while Not-Brad Pitt is always conveniently never around, yeah probably.
>>
>>80827314
>>80827336
I think this was before he went utterly insane.

Probably still wasn't easy for him.

The point is, nobody expects to see a celebrity show up next to them, so when one does, the most you'll get from people is a vague sense of recognition. Maybe a comment on how similar that person looks to somebody famous.
>>
>>80827488
Well then you would sound like some retarded conspiracy theorists who confuse coincidence for correlation.
>>
>>80827488
You're assuming that anybody ever gets a close look at him. Generally speaking, whenever Clark's intervention is required, the people he interacts with have a lot more on their minds than memorizing his facial features.
>>
>>80827488
My opinion is that when Superman is around, everyone's eyes are glued on him and what he's doing. When Superman appears, the last thing ANYONE is going to be thinking is, "Hey, where's Clark?"

And by the time the crisis is averted and real life resumes, Clark has already melted back into the crowd.
>>
>>80827488
But why would Brad pitt ever disguise himself and be your co-worker? You know how crazy you sound with your crazy theories how Brad Pitt takes time off his busy schedule just so he could work at 7-11?
>>
Wouldn't a building full of reporters be suspicious though?
>>
Doesn't Supes also vibrate fast enough to blue the detail in most pictures taken of him?

That was a thing said in one of the Superman/Batman comics, iirc.
>>
>>80827732
That was a Byrne thing, actually

Byrne's autistic attention to detail was a boon to his Superman run IMO. I loved the bioelectric aura idea.
>>
>>80827677
Yeah, but not of their own coworkers in their own office. Lois is really the only one who has no excuse, considering the amount of time she spends with both Clark and Superman. I like that Man of Steel skipped over all that crap and went straight to her figuring it out.
>>

If anything, it'd be an in-office joke that was mocking Clark behind his back. A schlub like Kent being Superman? Ha, good one Steve!

>>
>>80827802
>Lois is really the only one who has no excuse, considering the amount of time she spends with both Clark and Superman.

Lois is too close to the matter to be objective. She has close relationships with both Clark and Superman.

It's like these family members that have no idea their relatives are serial killers or whatever. You never assume it's someone you see every day and take for granted.
>>

>>
>>80826832
>OK, there are HUGE differences between people recognizing a movie star (even one who is in a well-advertised movie) and people recognizing a superhero.
Yeah, people actually get to see movie star's faces up close, while not in action, see posed photos of them, and watch them give interviews. Superheroes run or fly by, while confronting some threat, and then disappear again before people get a good look at their faces.
>>
>>80828016

I'd be ashamed if Superman found out. Sorry Superman.

>>
>dat Stevie Wonder song
So what Superman is saying is that he's glad we let him try it again, cuz his last time on Earth he lived a whole world of sin?

Well Supes, I'm glad that you know more than you knew then, so keep on trying 'til you reach your highest ground.
>>
Nothing wrong with thinking he can get by with just glasses and not get noticed but if someone were actively looking for him, he would get found out easy.
>>
>>80824111
The thing with our PoV on Clark's disguise is that we've got a rather skewed perception of things due to the narrative. We KNOW Clark Kent is Superman, so it's much easier to see one in the other. The Clark outfit is enough, people have gone incognito with less, and they didn't have a bright colorful costume that draws the eyes to everywhere but the face; but since we constantly see Clark and then Superman from the perspective of the fourth wall, it falls apart because it's much more obvious when you're constantly drawing a comparison between the two.
>>
>>80828168
Superman steals movies by using his x-ray vision to watch them from outside the cinema
>>
>>80827119
Yeah, that's what I figure. People don't notice the alter ego because they don't look for one. As far as the world concerns Superman always stays Superman.
>>
One thing that always bugged me about the Curt Swan Superman is that it was sooo obvious that Clark and Supes were the same guy.
Same with the Byrne, Sale and many other artists and writers

BUT

There are very few cases where they nail it. The Chris Reeves superman in a prime example plus the tribute to him from Johns and Frank
But Morrison and Quitely not only nailed it but what should have been the only way to draw and portray Clark/Superman in the great All Star Superman. I loved that even when found out hes Superman, no one believed it
>>
>>80827292
Is Cohen really that iconic though? He's not exactly the biggest star and the roles he's known for are usually him in some sort of disguise.
>>
>>80828501
One major problem though is how closely affiliated Clark is to Superman. It would almost be like Peter Parker not wearing a mask as Spiderman. SOMEONE has to make the connection at some point.
>>
>>80827282
Most people honestly probably think his name is superman, millions of people probably dont even know the name kal-el or clark kent because the dont read newspapers anymore.
>>
>>80829226
I never quite liked the idea of Clark being an act and Superman being the real deal. That implies that Clark really has no friends in his civilian persona. Everything's just a calculated act, a deliberate facade. That "Clark Kent" is just a mask he puts on in order to be able to work at a newspaper so that he can have a convenient way to learn about emergencies as they happen.
>>
You can trick "people", but you can't trick close friends and co-workers who see your face every day like that. The human brain is pretty good with faces.
>>
>>80829456
Also he was raised as Clark, I mean that would be who he identifies as most.

Maybe there are three personalities, Superman, Daily Planet goofball Clark, and "natural" Clark when he is with friends and family who know he is Superman.
>>
>>80829456
The real Clark Kent is somewhere in between his civilian persona and hid Superman persona
>>
>>80829470
That's why he'd have to have no friends. He'd never let anyone get close and just kinda sits around in the background, never really interacting at length with anyone.

Personally, I think it would be much simpler just to give the guy magic glasses that hide the fact that he's Superman. Like no matter how much you look at him while he has his glasses on, you'd never be able to make the connection just based on visuals alone. Just say some magic user he saved in his youth gave them to him as a gift or something.
>>
>>80829485
Smallville Clark is the real one, Metropolis is faux spaghetti Clark
>>
>>80829456

Superman does likely see himself as Clark Kent, but the way he acts around the newspaper is also most definitely an act. What most people get to see is not the real Clark Kent. It's a mask Clark Kent puts on to appear unthreatening.

If you want to see who Clark Kent is, you need to see him not when he's being Superman, and not when he's acting like a meek please-don't-notice-me background prop, but when he's back at the home farm with his Ma, relaxing and just being himself.

Same here. I kinda want to read more Clark Kent stories like that one from Allstar, honestly. Like, it doesnt feature Supes. Just hints things.

The best way to describe I've found is that Supes is basically just Clark in a colorful outfit. That's pretty much it.
>>
>>80829520
Yeah but he lives in Metropolis. That'd be a shitty civilian life. Not really talking to anyone at work, having no friends living close-by, not even inviting anyone to your apartment. What kind of lame life is that?

Personally, I prefer the idea that Clark just acts normally as Clark and when he's making public appearances as Superman, like on TV or accepting the key to the city or whatever, he deliberately tries to act the way a superhero should. When he's just in the Watchtower with Batman or Wonder Woman, he's more casual, but when he's acting as the face of the superhero community, he puts on this upright, never-do-wrong comic book hero of justice act.

>>
>>80829682
Superman has always been ludicrously jacked in the comics. It's not hard to see that he's pretty huge, suit or not.

I don't even know why he'd get that huge considering he'd have nothing to train with. Lifting weights would be like lifting a toothpick to him.
