If you blindly changed a character's race and had them act the exact same and experience the exact same things, the same crowd would piss and moan about how the writers "ignored" the natural facets of growing up in whatever the chosen race was. Okay fine, so let's make a traditionally white character non-white and totally change their background, experiences, relationships, and personality to fit around that. By then, it's not the same character anymore.

You can see what they were going for. Clone Luthor, InterGang, Lois love shenanigans, and an overall even lighter tone.
Personally, I loved the "I can't believe that" when Lois said she'd love Supes without his powers just a few hours after saying she did not have any romantic feelings about Clark. I liked the Alien angle and Clark trying to learn more about Krypton. Also, the random Bo Jackson appearance.
