I can agree to what you're saying. Problem is, I don't think TDKR was particularly good even without accounting for the memetic annoyance it became..
The dialogue was stilted and pretentious, plot points depend almost entirely on characters acting like idiots when the time comes for the plot to happen, and more importantly, the movie is twice as long as it needs to be so it retreads the same thin plot arc twice for no good reason.
...Actually two of those are identical complaints I had to Man of Steel, and given that they were the same writer that should not be as surprising as it is.

It's just that the "grittier, darker" cape movies are usually the ones that have a stronger narrative direction and therefor end up being more substantial and memorable.
