Well, the theme in Meti's teachings seems to be to take down your opponent in a single blow. That shows strength and skill. Defeating your opponent with a multitude of cuts, blows, and shots is shoddy work and you can't be satisfied with that if you want to be strong.
Guns and the like are fine for war, though. Not everyone is going to be a master swordsman, after all. Thorns WANTED to scourge the Throne of all life. This was 1 Metatron's initial wish. He was probably mad with hate for all living things at that moment, because he had been maimed in his original form and made by Zoss to give up all the syllables of Royalty. However, 2 Michael knew this isn't the way, and convinced him to change his will. Now Thorns, 1 Metatron and 2 Michael strive for the common goal of overthrowing Demiurges and reinstating the Old Law in the Throne and possibly across the Wheel. Zaid(?) is supposed to be the new King, but 6 Juggernaut Star fucked everything up by chopping off Zoss's head for whatever reason and kidnapping Zaid before he was given the Key. Zoss had little time, so he put the Key in the nearest forehead he could find. Events unfold. Now 2 Michael convinced 82 White Chain to join their cause. I presume 82's role is to find Allison, help her in her quest to rescue Zaid and then... what? 2 Michael said "You will kill the girl if necessary", so I guess she is supposed to obtain the Key no matter what.
