Jane Foster Thor's character makes MUCH more sense now. Her fight with cancer took her beauty and her ability to move around, even taste things, so now that she's Thor its like a new lease on life. Being Thor is killing her faster than her treatment was, but she does it because as Thor, she actually gets to live feeling happy and healthy, even if its only temporary. Don't get me wrong, I thought she was boring, and I kinda still do, but finally she makes sense at least.

She'll make sense once they explain why the real Thor became unworthy and why Mjolnir is acting up.

So she's never going to make sense. She's doomed to be stupid and contrived forever.

OP are you shitting me? Waid's writing on this book sucks. His writing on this makes it seem like he read a 2 sentence summary on Thor and went with it. She acts nothing like this in Aaron and Dauterman ' s run. Why does Jane need a new lease on life? I get that she's dying and all, but in Aaron ' s run she's trying to do the most good before she succumbs to cancer. Waid's Avengers run paints her as an Odinson clone.

What's Thor Odinson doing right now? Is he ded?

It bothers me how that whole situation with her doesn't make sense. I stopped reading after 4 issues, but tell me if I'm wrong.

From what I remember, she didn't want to get Asgardian treatment for her cancer, and wanted to beat it with normal treatments. She then becomes Thor, but still doesn't take any Asgardian treaments and is still dying of cancer.

The last thing she needs is to die like Captain Marvel by saying that her Thor powers cancel out any treatments.

it's a pity the writing will 100% cop-out of Jane dying from her cancer as a result of over-exerting herself as Thor.

like she is getting treatments, but every time she turns to Thor the treatments are nullified. she has the capability of getting better if she takes the regiments as she should, but being Thor means more to her. it's equal parts sad and reckless.

How does one "become" Thor? This still confuses me, why do people call her Thor when Thor is not a title that can simply be passed down to someone else? Thor is Thor. It's literally his name. Beta Ray Bill didn't become Thor just because he wielded Mjolnir. Sam Wilson didn't become Steve Rogers, he became Captain America.

It's a matter of opinion, but I think she counts as Thor-the-identity.
Mijolnir is all sorts of magic so it transforms her appearance, body, voice, even the knowledge in her head.
In the first galThor comic she said aloud how the ice giants hadn't been such a problem in ten thousand years and how this was a surprise to her, and that was all said in crazy Asguardian speak, but then her thought bubble was about how she had no preexisting knowledge of any such information, and that was in normal people talk.
Mijolnir created a weird multiple personality version of Thor for her.
And bonus: Mijolnir has been the key partof Thor's identity since IRL Viking days a thousand years ago, it's the connection to Thor's power (Whosoever...etc...) so why can't it be a connection to Thor's identity too?
>>
>>79763493
You lift the hammer, and bam, you gain the powers of Thor.

Jane just decided to call herself Thor, despite that fact that the actual Thor is still alive.
>>
>>79764891
If the Avengers could cure cancer how would cancer still even exist in the Marvel U?
>>
>>79764930
Thor Odinson made that call.
He said that he wasn't worthy of the name if he wasn't worthy of the hammer.
>>
>>79764947

Because your 5000 year old space alien wizard friends in the Avengers can cure cancer for you, but can't be arsed using space magic to cure cancer individually for millions of people the world over.
>>
Jason Aaron's Jane Foster's Thor is better than Thor's Thor. Finally Thor is a likable character, sorry sexist 4channers.
>>
>>79759379
I'm betting you it's something along the lines of this
"You gave Jane Foster cancer..." They'll explain it by saying that the dimensional travel between Midgard and Asgard fucked with her cells and caused them to mutate... And it never would've happened if Thor hadn't got so romantically involved with her... Hence, UNWORTHINESS. Stupid I know but this is Marvel we're talking about...
>>
>>79763084
I just want to know why, and whether the writers actually want us to think she's awful.
>>
>>79764923

Then why does Thor still seem to have his power without the hammer?
>>
>>79764947

>If the Avengers could cure cancer how would cancer still even exist in the Marvel U?

Because despite all the fantastical shit that goes on, the main universe can never diverge TOO much from our own reality in terms of problems like famine, disease, the disabled/crippled, etcetera. Sort of like how street level gang-related crime still goes on despite Frank having Franked enough gangbangers over the years to fill a graveyard the size of North America.

There's this great meta comic when Thor and Asguard went through the Viking's mythical apocalypse, Ragnorok, and it's the end, like THE END of the god's myth, that's how the myth ends IRL. So Thor's standing there in the void of entropy and Donald Blake (the human alter ego) shows up and starts talking to him. Blake has a mortal human soul, when an asguardian god dies, yes, he becomes nothingness, but Blake was to go to heaven, or hell, or ghostland, whatever, so because of the link between THE MYTH Thor and the person, Thor gets dragged back to life.
In the Marvel comics they have this whole thing where these gods are stories in essence, Loki comics make good use of this plot device.
My point here is that Thor's existence isn't bound by the logic or limitations of the material realm, because in a very real way he doesn't exist like other characters do. He could maybe be in two places at once.
>>

>>79765351
I crunched the numbers once. Assuming Frank has been active for ten years, we know he came onto the scene several years after Spider-Man and the Marvel Universe covers roughly 15 years across its timeline, and assuming the murder rate in the Marvel USA lines up with reality, Frank Castle is responsible for roughly 2/5ths of all murders per year. Frank Castle would have killed every single real life member of the Five Families a few months into his crusade. He would have killed every single Five Families associate partway through his second year. He would have killed every single street gang member in NYC by the halfway point of his career. Frank Castle is the most unrealistic thing in the Marvel Universe.

Not so, even if she didn't (hypocritically) hate magic and not trust it, I've learned from reading Steven Strange that when wizards do their magic thing they can detect the influence and nature of other enchantments, like say... using a god's hammer, and Odin has that all-points out on FemThor. >>
>>79765015
Too stupid, he'd have to have known there was a risk of cancer, which I highly doubt.
>>
>>79765524
sure, one could work it that way.

Except one also would need to EXPLAIN that shit.

They wasted six issues with a secret everybody with half a brain cracked day-0(well, there was a 40% chance of being Thor's current love interest instead of Jane to be honest. But Jane was 60%)

After... what? Two years? We STILL don't know how the hell Fury managed to make Thor unworthy just by whispering to him, it should be a GIGANTIC plot point with everybody and their grandads investigating about it, but it's completely ignored.

It doesn't help characters are acting out of characters.
The fact she makes sense mostly in OTHER BOOKS(Waid) makes everything sadder.
>>
>>79762184
That...would actually be kind of cool. Jane is constantly explaining away her decision to forgo her chemo treatments in order to be Thor, each time getting more and more desperate, reaching for any excuse.

In her life as Jane Foster, cancer patient, her friends and family just can't understand what's happening. Sure, chemo is a bitch and makes you weak as fuck, but given her odds etc, she should be seeing some improvement. Maybe only a tiny bit. A month or two added to her life expectancy, but she's fading faster than ever. The doctors realise that there's zero chemo drugs in her body each time she comes in. That's impossible. It's not even like they were never administered either, it seems like somehow there's negative chemo in her system, a sudden abundance of cancer cells/signs that the cancer is getting stronger.

All the time she's clutching for any reason to continue getting her superhero kick. She's an addict.
>>
>>79758812

What a joke. Jane Foster is a hypocrite. At the beginning when she had cancer, Thor offered to have her be healed by Asgardian tech/magic, but she refused saying those things always come with a "cost" and she doesn't want to get involved with Asgardian power. BUT the moment she gets a taste of magic and power from the hammer? All bet's are off and she wants to be Thor.

Hypocrite.

What a farce!

My theory (heavily based on the feminist preachiness of the early issues, mind that) was that Fury revealed Thor that Jane was going to replace him and be an even better Thor than him, so that he would get mad about it, as in "how could a woman ever be better than Odinson", making him unworthy because sexism or something like that
