Tmnt is far from dead, they sell there toys like hotcakes. Go in to any toys r us and you will see the Tmnt section, is as big or bigger than marvels. Kids love ninja turtles, always have probably always will. The source material can be changed every tucking time the reboot if they want, as long as they keep turtles being ninjas.
