Demon in a Bottle only works if he's also getting some stuff that shows how casually and often Tony drank, and what effects it had on his decisions.
If you want to go main universe, then yeah, Demon in a Bottle, but also Armor Wars and Extremis and Busiek's Iron Age and shit like that. Just follow Marvel's recommendations, basically.
The alternative is a lot of Marvel Adventures Iron Man, which is probably aimed more squarely at a kid than most Iron Man stories of the past 25 years.

"Doomquest" is good, if the kid won't mind an early design like in OP's pic, as opposed to the movie looks.
Despite the name it's as much an Iron Man story as it is Doom's.
Early on Tony fires a guy for making shady deals with Latveria, comparing that to selling Napalm to kids for profit, so the moral center is present from the start.
It's also Iron Man and Dr Doom in Camelot, and as silly as that sounds, the story and art really makes it work. I loved that as a kid, but even nowadays I can appreciate al the stuff it did right.
