Well I like the character very much, but never was very fond of "Mighty Avengers" or Dark Reign/Siege versions. I think that originally Jenkins and now Remender are by far the best in writing Sentry.

Well, blame the creators for that, then, and not Johns. They just happen to have a few character traits in common, that being their nobility and their misguided attempts to actually do good in the universe.
That's what makes their interactions in FE and afterwards so golden. They're naturally compelling together.
