In the earlier drafts of the movie she had a castle full of magic shit, including the flower. The king knew she had it and had to send his guards to raid the place unprovoked and steal it form her. It had to be reworked because the king looked like a douchebag.
In the final movie, we never really see what she does in her spare time.
Gothel did nothing wrong.
