I think it's overall a fun reflection on a very British ideal of rebellion and uses the comic form really well without getting too bogged down in carrying out the 'meta' concepts like some of Morrison's later works
I just fucking love the idea of the torture device that makes words on a page seem real; it's the perfect crazy comic book idea and allows for so much insanity. I'm sure there are other ideas like that in there but it's been a while since I read it

Short answer: Yes. ESPECIALLY the first hundred-ish issues.
Long answer:
It doesn't get polarizing until much later, and those remasters won't even be coming out for years. The material that's available now, up through Jaka's Story (Vol 5) is widely, and rightfully, considered some of the best comics ever.
It starts off as a Howard The Duck style riff on Conan/Red Sonja and quickly turns in to a weird sprawling sociopolitical dramedy satire....thing.
Mothers and Daughters (#151 - #200, vol 7 - 10) is when Dave starts to crack. By the 280's, he's using the book as a vessel to explicate his very particular brand of homebrewed Abrahamic monotheism.

Yes that's the Aaron run. The first couple arcs (HC 1) felt really tightly held together and worked perfectly as a character piece on Thor. The second half focused more on worldbuilding between Earth and the other Kingdoms so naturally it was much more open-ended, but it still felt like it wrapped up way too quickly and left a couple major story threads hanging. I'm used to that in superhero comics but the last issue in particular felt rushed to get to lady Thor and it left a really bad taste in my mouth with Aaron making fun of and completely emasculating Thor, after showing his extreme heroism throughout the whole series calmly dismissing him for 'gurl power' and 'muh old white men'
It's still a really good series overall, it just falls apart a bit in the last couple issues. I'd give the first half a 10/10 and the second half something more like a 7.5
The second half also has a lot less Ribic art which is sad
