Why does Disney pretend this movie doesn't exist
>>
Because Disney is allergic to promoting good films that aren't easily mashed into the whole princess musical merchandising machine.
>>
Because it's from that unusual post-Walt, pre-Little Mermaid era.

Also, it has smoking, alcoholism, and a burlesque act.

All of that is in Pinocchio.
Then again, they don't promote anything that isn't princess bullshit.

I know you already said it, but just reiterating that they don't promote pinnocchio either. Vincent Price should have lived forever.
>>
because the 80s movies (other than mermaid) are shite.
>>
>>78451656

I... you... uhh...

Damn that makes sense. I never thought about that. They don't do shit unless their a princess they can sell to little girls.

Fucking girls ruin everything.
>>
Because Disney already have a Mouse character
>>
>>78453150
Mermaid was boring as shit.
>>
>>78453180
sure, but it's leagues better than the other 80s movies.

Mermaid was the first to have a Princess that had an actual character and emotive facial expressions, mostly due to Glen Keane.

Eilonwy was close to being the ideal Princess but they kinda dropped the ball a tad.

"Girls"

You mean Disney
>>
If this movie was about finding an affordable home well-suited to the family of the buyer, with all amenities and in a nice area. And not about mice. It could be called The Great House Detective.
>>
>>78453324
Disney wouldn't do it if it wasn't profitable, tumblrina.

Basil and the Rescuers would be a great crossover flick.
>>
It's probably a case like Tarzan and 101 Dalmations, where Disney doesn't own full rights to the characters because it wasn't based on a public domain work. As a result, their lawyers have to make damn certain that they don't accidentally overstep the contract whenever they do anything with the property.

>character
>"i'm bored of my amazing life"
>"ogm boyss"
>"fuck you dad"
>doesnt say anything for a 1/3 of the movie

this would be fine if she had an arc even, but she doesn't even have that. fuck ariel.
>>
>>78453464
Wouldn't Basil be like a hundred years old by that point?
>>
This movie's weird. It implied that every human home had exact mice counterparts of themselves living with them. Were there parallel histories? Did those mice go through The Troubles? Did they have bloody revolutions as well? How did they hide the sound of tiny muskets, and all the smoke from flaming mini-houses? What did they do with the bodies?
>>
>>78453383
Boo, get out of stage.
>>
>>78453723
also the implied speciesism against rats, to the point that ratigan has a complex about being called one

Disney movies in general have a lot of "know your place" messages when they're not focused on a character breaking the status quo
>>
>>78451211
This movie did air on Disney Junior once.

Well anon, rats are known to actually eat mice. It's no more surprising than a wolf being portrayed as a vicious villain compared to dogs

Do you want an apology from Disney for this movie not being popular or something? It had its chance. Not Disney's fault people want the princess stuff more. They didn't even actively market the princess stuff as a brand until they noticed a ton of feedback from parents and children who complained about the lack of merchandise available. TGMD had multiple releases, a theatrical rerelease,a few VHS and DVD releases. It never resonated enough to be marketed in constantly. It's just one of the many awkward 70's/80's Disney movies hipsters cling onto because they're not as well recognized.

Or because it's you know...a good animated movie. It came from a time when cartoon films now and again were still made with adults in mind, and by adults in mind I don't mean occasional hinting at being dirty winks to the camera but an actual decent story and relatable characters

Hell the only reason the disney classics are mostly classics is because they're musicals. I know more people who get drunk and go on Disney song sprees than I do people who ACTUALLY re watch the entire films

>It came from a time when cartoon films now and again were still made with adults in mind, and by adults in mind I don't mean occasional hinting at being dirty winks to the camera but an actual decent story and relatable characters

I think there-in lies the problem; it tries to be more mature and adult, but normalfag adults would rather watch things like, I don't know, the Godfather, or whatever super serious movies it is normies watch. And its not wacky and crazy enough for normie kids to latch onto.thus, you have something pushed into a niche where only animation aficionados like it.

I was raised by this cartoon, i've watched it like two dozen times when i was a little dumb child
Yet not one track in there stuck with me, the music was great and memorable FOR WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE MOVIE.
It is the perfect accompaniment for the cartoon, but taken by itself it is not stellar or even catchy, it doesn't have a leg to stand on its own.

That's the only problem i see in the movie, Not the death-by-being-eaten-by-a-giant-fat-cat scene, not the burlesque, not even Ratigan
>>
>>78461757
I can remember the main theme off the top of my head. And the melody to the Ratigan song.

because it got BTFO by Bluth.

Disney and losing is like the japanese and WWII.

Just don't talk about it...

Nevermind I just saw.
>In 1986, Disney released The Great Mouse Detective, while Don Bluth released An American Tail. An American Tail outperformed Mouse Detective, and became the higher-grossing film on its first release.[5] Despite An American Tail's greater level of success, The Great Mouse Detective was still successful enough (both critically and commercially) to instill executive confidence in Disney's animation department.

yeah,It did fine,
it's just that Bluth beat their asses. House mouse movie made 84 million, while theirs made like 39.
He never really again beat them so bad, as apparently The Land Before time dropped like in the same exact weekend as Oliver and Company, but they both did about the same.

even though TLBT is a vastly superior movie.

I say this while not even really liking An American Tail, btw.

Is it true there was actually going to be a psuedo-sequel where Basil had to search for Mickey Mouse himself or something?

Mouse

Olivia is cute.

This.

The Great Mouse Detective and Black Caldron are black sheep films, as they were hold-overs from the pre-Michael Eisner regime and were blacksheep films.

and in Mickey Mouse comics, Ruffhouse Rat is just Minnie's lazy, useless wannabe athlete cousin. I didn't realize he was waiting to EAT the others

(yes, the mice have rat relatives just like the ducks have goose relatives...)

>Is it true there was actually going to be a psuedo-sequel where Basil had to search for Mickey Mouse himself or something?

Fan wankery AFAIK. That said, it smacks profoundly of 1990s Disney (when the rumor surfaced) to do a film supposedly centering on Mickey in which he's offscreen as much as possible, so he can't do anything interesting and unbefitting of the corporate mascot.
