What went wrong?

Thinking muh references can make up for a bland plot.
Nothing, faggot.

I thought it was Tim Burton's best film since Nightmare Before Xmas. It went right, no Johnny Depp.

Not to mention Burton's belief that smooth expressive facial animation doesn't belong in a stop motion feature because stop motion must remain crude in order to maintain its charm. The human characters are as lifeless as Sparky was at the end of the first act.
Paranorman BTFO'd this thing in every way.
I think they made an error not changing the ending. The cutesy happy ending worked for a 30 minute short film. It didn't work for a 90 minute film that spent a lot more time talking about the nature of life, death, letting go, and the consequences of bringing someone/something you loved back to life after they have already gone. In the short film, the happy ending is a cutesy pay-off. In the 90 minute film, which literally spent almost the whole moving hammering in the message that sometimes dead is bettah and you have to let people go, the ending is ridiculous.
Coming out the same year as Paranorman and Hotel Trannsylvania.

But that would bring down the sales of Sparky plushes at Hot Topic. And as we've learned from his other stop motion films, Tim Burton has never gotten over his dead childhood dog and refuses to acknowledge he'll never see that dog again.
my friend will's brother is the voice of victor in this.

>just showed Xmas to kid sister who's heavy into cutesy stuff and Frozen/Princess stuff
>ask what she thought
>she says it's disgusting but she liked some bits
Yay I guess?
Haven't seen this film since it first came out; the main thing I remember is how bored all the kids in the theatre were.
The movie just plodded, and it felt like the screenwriter had way more fun with the supporting characters than with Victor & his dog. So I guess a dull protagonist (despite the fact that he's supposed to be some quirky genius kid) was a key problem.
Mr. Rzykruski was good because Martin Landau is always good.
Everything else was wrong.
Not enough porn.

It takes a really fun premise and just makes it kind of boring and predictable.
The side characters pissed me off really bad

no likeable characters, no feeling at all
