Does /co/ like the direction IDW's Jem comics are going?
i like girls with colored hair but not cats
>>78441886
Same here, so fucking tired of cats.
And I know I am in the minority, especially in the internet, but fuck cats.
>>78441017
Dug the first few issues, but haven't caught up on the more recent ones
>>78441017
I've never liked Campbell's art. I've been aware of it for about 7 or 8 years and it's never worked for me even though I keep being told how great it's supposed to be.
I believe it's genuinly making use of the format's creative liberties and taking the cast to places previously unimaginable.
Pizzazz is the most striking to me. In the cartoon she was an oblivious bitch who I don't even think ever even knew that homosexuality was a thing that existed. In the comic she has no problem with Stormer being a lesbian AND would gladly even play her sappy love songs! This is a reimaginijg in the truest sense of the word.
Also, I love that above all else, she is a Proffessional. That's the most significant change about her character, and damn if it ain't absolutely striking!
Of course ir that big dramatic scene with Pizzazz crashing her car will have no followup and the only lasting effect of issue #9 will be that our little Phyllis screamed in anger so hard that she lost her voice, that will be kinda bullshit.
Also, does Madmartigan mean anything?
>>78442354
cats aren't terrible. would like more dogs though.
>>78443336
Madmartigan, according to word of god, is named after a character from the movie Willow. Because, as Thompson put it "Pizzazz is a secret/not secret fantasy nerd"
>>78441017
I have no idea what direction it's going now, all I know is I bailed out right after seeing the direction it started off in.
honestly the thing that's worrying me right now is the dark jem arc coming up. it reeks of "dark and edgy" and I feel like it's almost too soon for something like this to come in and derail things already. But hey I could be wrong and i hope I am proven wrong.
>>78443382
Look at how good these character designs are, you could tell theh Holograms apart just by silhouette alone!
And holy shit Aja is a brick house!
Panders a bit too hard to schlubby fangirls for my taste. I know that might sound odd considering fangirls are the target audience, but the cartoon was girly and fun without making me cringe. The comics just keep wading through the same shit that I hate about modern comics and cartoons in general.
>>78443452
For sure, they're distinct designs, but they have only faint traces of resemblance to the cartoon's characters that I was used to for years. Whatever >>78443382 is, it's strange and weird and I can't into it.
>>78443092
I've liked Campbell since she was an ugly dude who's only work was from /tg/ games and deviantart.
>>78443360
>"Pizzazz is a secret/not secret fantasy nerd"
How is it physically possible one woman can become exponentially more perfect with every passing detail?
>>78444010
pizzazz is best girl and that's a fact
I wish it wasn't so fucking boring. I doubt I'll ever catch up.
While I still think it's total bullshit that they didn't get Marx to write it, I don't hate what Thompson's done. It's not MY Jem, but it's still Jem and it's not bad. What really keeps me off the book is Campbell's art, which I have hated since fucking high school. There's something about the chalky pastel chubby goth chick aesthetic that makes me want to tear my hair out.
So while this thread's still here, I might as well post the preview of issue #10.
The Rio issue, coming this Wednesday.
But FIRST:
>this variant cover for issue #13 is da BOMB
Allright, showtime!
>>78448742
If you don't get the variant with the cat you are stupid.
>>78448750
Let me tell ya', I'm just relieved that the car crash didn't, in fact, turn out to be bullshit.
>>78448775
I just wonder where this puts the christmas issue in the timeline. After this one? After Dark Jem?
Or is it a sliding scale?
>>78448790
WELP
This ain't your saturday morning Pizzazz.
I only hope this works for people who's first encounter with these girls is this comic.
>>78448817
Pizzazz absolutely cares about her music and knows the industry inside out.
That's really admirable.
>>78448843

Who was the "not that mean" Misfit? The one with the blue hair?
>>78449539
Yeah. Stormer was the least awful.
>>78449563
She was genuinely a good person and ended up becoming best friends with Kimber and at least on good terms with the holograms.

If you don't want this comic to survive then why are you even here?
>>78450457
He might be a Jem fan.
