Do you guys remember this shit?

The live action programming was the dark age of Cartoon Network.
>>
>>78419295
I'd remember it better if I could even see anything shit was so dark
>>
>>78419295
yeah that was mostly awful(Destroy Build Destroy was pretty okay though, it reminded me of the old game shows that Nickelodeon used to make)
>>
>>78419450
true, it got old quick though. I mean shit the title itself is repetitive
>>
Damn paranoid Bostonians.

Wait, CN is not in the dark ages now?

This thread really puts into perspective how much of my life I've wasted here on 4chan. CN Real was still a thing when I started coming here.

Amazing World of Gumball is actually funny and relatable if youre an autist like us

I would say so. They're still not as good as they used to be but they're a hell of a lot better than they were a few years ago.
>>
>>78420739
and than when there was a real bomb no one gave a shit until it was to late

They could be. Just get rid of Teen Titans Go, and get rid of those stupid bumps with the autistic children screaming into the screen, and the annoying cartoon promos where they get a clip from the show and repeat and annoying sound from it for far too long than what is actually necessary.
>>
>>78420748
They still lost a lot of good people in the process.

Fuck maybe if it didn't happen, WOY might've been on CN.
>>

The only good live-action show they made was Tower Prep, and they canceled it despite good ratings

No.

I mean, even if you don't like shows like Steven Universe and TTG, you still have to admit it's better than the days of live-action shows that wouldn't make it past the first season and Pokemon Movie Marathon #57 while filling the gaps with reruns of actual good shows like Chowder or Flapjack
>>
>>78421412
Tower Prep was my shit. I wish shows moving to Netflix only was a thing back then, because it probably would have made the switch and done well.
It would have made a great cartoon as well, but might have been compared to Morning Glories if they had made it a comic.
>>
>>78421412
It had good ratings, but the only ratings CN cares about is young boys. There were "too many" girls watching the show

I admittedly am just a simple corn farmer and don't know much about big city marketing, but when they're focus testing these shows in the first place, do they not bring girls in as well? If it seems to be popular with both genders during testing, why not just toss in at least one gender neutral advertiser for the show? Or do they have marketing agreements done well before the focus testing stage?

>DINI: "That's the thing, you know I hate being Mr. Sour Grapes here, but I'll just lay it on the line: that's the thing that got us cancelled on Tower Prep, honest-to-God was, like, 'we need boys, but we need girls right there, right one step behind the boys'—this is the network talking—'one step behind the boys, not as smart as the boys, not as interesting as the boys, but right there.' And then we began writing stories that got into the two girls' back stories, and they were really interesting. And suddenly we had families and girls watching, and girls really became a big part of our audience, in sort of like they picked up that Harry Potter type of serialized way, which is what The Batman and [indistinct]'s really gonna kill. But, the Cartoon Network was saying, 'F***, no, we want the boys' action, it's boys' action, this goofy boy humor we've gotta get that in there. And we can't—'and I'd say, but look at the numbers, we've got parents watching, with the families, and then when you break it down—'Yeah, but the—so many—we've got too many girls. We need more boys.'"

>DINI: "And then that's why they cancelled us, and they put on a show called Level Up, which is, you know, goofy nerds fighting CG monsters. It's like, 'We don't want the girls because the girls won't buy toys.' We had a whole… we had a whole, a merchandise line for Tower Prep that they s***canned before it ever got off the launching pad, because it's like, 'Boys, boys, boys. Boys buy the little spinny tops, they but the action figures, girls buy princesses, we're not selling princesses.'"

I work in retail and yes kids like action figures, the top sellers for boys are of course wwe, and various superhero ips. and the girls it's monster high, and all the monster high rip off stuff (descendants, and that other 'kids of storybook charaters line') and then disney princess/barbie. what's funny to me is it's not hard to market something to girls, I mean when your top seller is a two headed zombie doll thats out selling the princess stuff I think it's clear these tv execs have their heads up their asses.

besides you don't have to sell them dolls, the girls like the monster high stuff because a lot of their toys aren't so much dolls, but a creative activity toy.
>>
>>78422728
What is CN Upfront?
>>
>>78422217
>>78422236
What I will never understand is that they tried so hard to copy Disney and Nick they missed one key fact; most of the money Nick and Disney makes is off tween girls. Yet, CN was too focused on boys to actually make CN Real work like it's competitors. In other words, they couldn't follow the leader right. No wonder CN Real was doomed to fail.
>>
>>78422762
It's when CN announces their new shows, specials and miniseries for the year. In the last upfront, we found out about the SU/UG crossover and the Stakes miniseries, plus WBB and The Royals.

Exactly. I know as a kid, I got mainly Barbies but the ones I liked were the ones that actually did stuff like swam, painfully gave birth, or played basketball. MH and EAH are similarly fun because they're all unique, with fun backstories, and there's bound to be one, a girl relates to.
>>
>>78423012
Snyder's run was really weird; he nearly killed the network with all the live action, then he caused a Renaissance by taking a chance with AT and by the time he left, CN had more or less recovered.

I don't know how to feel about him.

I really don't understand the hate for Snyder. He pulled CN out of the mid-aughts slump. Pic related, that's what they were like right before Snyder got there. Also, Samples started the live-action with the Re animated movie in very late 2006.

Why do people hate Stu snyder, when Jim samples was the one who got rid of very good shows like
>Toonheads
>Gundam wing
>Looney Tunes
>The Chuck Jones Show
>Sailor Moon
>Dexter's Lab
>Courage the cowardly dog

And replaced them with total and utter shit like

I remember, back when Flapjack was still being produced, Thurop Von Orman was very vocal on his Deviant Art page about how CN Real was failing spectacularly. He also mentioned, at one time, that a name change for the channel was being planned before the block failed. Thank god.
>>
>>78422768
This, how could CN execs be so bad at making money and why did it take so long for Snyder to get fired?
>>
>>78422236
Begining of the interview

DINI: "They're all for boys 'we do not want the girls', I mean, I've heard executives say this, you know, not [where I am] but at other places, saying like, 'We do not want girls watching this show."

SMITH: "WHY? That's 51% of the population."

DINI: "They. Do. Not. Buy. Toys. The girls buy different toys. The girls may watch the show—"

SMITH: "So you can sell them T-shirts if they don't—A: I disagree, I think girls buy toys as well, I mean not as many as f***ing boys do, but, B: sell them something else, man! Don't be lazy and be like, 'well I can't sell a girl a toy.' Sell 'em a T-shirt, man, sell them f***ing umbrella with the f***ing character on it, something like that. But if it's not a toy, there's something else you could sell 'em! Like, just because you can't figure out your job, don't kill chances of, like, something that's gonna reach an audi—that's just so self-defeating, when people go, like… these are the same fuckers who go, like, 'Oh, girls don't read comics, girls aren't into comics.' It's all self-fulfilling prophecies. They just make it that way, by going like, 'I can't sell 'em a toy, what's the point?'

Because the younger demographics like it.
It doesn't take too much to entertain most kids, and sometimes teenagers, if they're bland enough.
Just throw them anything with colors and a fast pace, and you're gold. It doesn't matter if adults don't enjoy it, because they're not the target.
Remember when Stuart Snyder was in charge of CN, and he had so many bullshit reasons for having shows cancelled and taken off the air, like how girls aren't allowed to like action cartoons, and over paltry shit like merchandising, even if the show's getting good ratings?
It's slightly like that, except with adults, and not nearly as bad as it was. A fair amount of CN's other shows can appeal to adults more than kids, like Regular Show and depending on your tastes and opinions Steven Universe.
So TTG would be like the attraction to get kids to watch the channel, if they're attention span's too short to enjoy anything else on the network.

Every single other show they have is in a hiatus. They keep doing these week long "bomb" specials to pump out episodes, but because of the breakneck speed shows will have 1 or 2 weeks of this and then vanish for months. TTG is the cheapest, easiest show to produce by a long shot that gathers not-shit ratings, so they're keeping with it.
It premiered two years ago and already has ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY THREE fucking episodes. The people behind it acted like assholes to fans of the original, but at this point they're zombified and wish to die.
