Aladdin was a strong, young man. Why didn't he just get a job?
>>
Because he was also lazy as fuck
>>
Oh, get a job? Just get a job? Why don't he just strap on his job helmet and squeeze down into a job cannon and fire off into job land, where jobs grow on little jobbies?!”
>>
>>78301673
We've had this thread before, we always tell you because he was a street urchin and a known thief. Anyone hiring wouldn't trust him in their place of business.
>>
>>78301673

He tried to apply for entry level jobs like a dish washer, but they kept telling him he didn't have enough experience.

that's a pretty good explanation considering that scene when he's running from the guards those women say "getting into trouble a little early today, eh Aladin?" So obviously he was well known atleast in that part of town.
>>
>>78302045
It's a city of several thousands, surely not everyone would know him. Or he could become a caravan guard, or make something of himself. Go out and cut some reeds for free, make baskets. Start a business.
>>
>>78302139
That's hard though. I think Aladdin could have gotten on his feet if the Sultan had just provided some decent welfare and maybe even free healthcare for the common citizen. The royal family lived in some dank opulence, I think the state could have afforded it.

Probably all of the "jobs" for strong young men involved becoming a slave. I don't think people realize how fucked up life was back then. Any random dipshit with a few cronies could kidnap you and take you to a mine and make you work until you died and no one would investigate that or punish it in any way.
>>
>>78304311
The nigga alive in bronze aged persia. There are no office jobs. This guy steals from the poorest people in his city and then destroys everything, and clearly kills a couple people, in his way to get away with it.

>>78304399
During his little "it's cool to rob people" song he passes by half a dozen people who made their living by being street performers. A guy who can do back flips across rooftops could be very successful on the street or in a circus.
And what with the bed of nails guy and the sword swallow both being MURDERED, so Aladdin can have a breakfast that he ended up not even needing, there's less competition.
>>
>no mention of his true heritage as "Prince of Thieves"

Was the movie that bad?
>>
>>78304500
>implying it's possible to freelance circus without the circus guild breaking your legs
>implying that a street urchin would be allowed to join the circus guild

Listen, we have no idea what the circumstances of their society are. By all accounts it seems pretty fucked up, and Aladdin is a cool stand-up guy and he says he has to steal so I'm going to take his word for it.
>>
>>78304454
Like 1 in a 1000 people could read and only 1 in 1000 of them could do math. Aladdin wasn't lauding at the worker drones cramped into cu icles. If anything he was envious of the incredibly rare individuals who can earn a living without eventually losing all of their fingers.
>>
>>78304559
We know there was a strong man, a sword swaller, a fire spitter, and a bed of nails dude all amidst a bazaar jam packed with small business owners.
>>
>>78304613
And there were all in a guild with hereditary membership that Aladdin couldn't join.

In Middle Eastern cultures, tribalism and family are extremely important. Who you are, and who your parents are determines who you can be and what kind of opportunities you can have.

This is why orphans are seen as such pariahs. They have no history so their seen as nothing.

And what would he do with these reeds, hmmm? His skills at running, jumping, dodging, backstabbing, pickpocketing, hiding in shadows, tightrope walking, moving silently, climbing walls, pole-vaulting, finding traps, reading languages, and opening locks wouldn't be much use there.

Well I heard Arabs were Ancient Greek-tier when it comes to making love to boys. Meaning it's okay if the boy hasn't gone through puberty, as in no body or facial hairiness.

Without the ways in which the Genie influenced the plot, Jafar would have never sought him out, and he would have rotted in prison just for socializing with the princess.
>>
>>78301673
Because the story called for Lamp Gettin' and stuff, but not a mother.

And since he's not fucking Sinbad or doing a story like that, he did not simply become a sailor.

Although over the course of the movies (and especially the series, I'm not going to take canon seriously AT ALL, look at Genies fucking shenaigans and 4th wall breaking) he does sort of become "professional adventurer/defender of Agrabah".

His job at that point is defending stuff as the main, male protagonist because two cast members are sidekicks by default both by inclination and species, one is a affable, magic manservant, and the third is his girlfriend.

The sultan is his girlfriends dad/mayor of Agrabah. The guards are basically the dimwitted, incompetent cops, the reason he solves problems. They are inoffensive in the cartoon, and well, kind of about as fucking mean as they are really allowed to be in a disney movie. Or nearly so. If you count Black Cauldron "evil guards can be rather evil. If it was a novel or some other thing writing about edgy and "really dark" guards they would probably also have tried to anally rape him, allowed him to be anally raped, and definitely seriously beaten him.

The absurdity of bringing anal rape into a discussion about DIsney's Alladin is not lost on me, and why I am going to sleep now.

Who was being taxed in Agrabah to afford the upkeep of a palace that was literally bigger than the entire city? Also who was taking care of the palace since its staff seems to consist of 3 guards and a vizier.

Jafar probably never cleaned shit. The Sultan is stupid and possibly corrupt. Jasmine doesn't seem like she never cleaned anything.

Disney main characters (with a few exceptions of course) tend to be averse to actually getting a real job. They should learn from Ghibli characters, they always work and work hard, even if they're little kids and really shouldn't be doing that kind of work.

Disney is like the post war American dream, work and suffering are equally valuable and are often seen as stepping stones towards a great destiny.

Meanwhile Ghibli is like Japan during their economic boom, work itself is seen as glamorous or at least something honorable. You'll see that in Ghibli movies the kids with jobs are often doing it because its preferable to the alternative.

WRONG! In many east asian countries merchants were considered near the bottom of the barrel, barely above butchers and gravediggers and certainly below farmers and menial laborers. However, I doubt this was the case in the middle east which was known for its vibrant trade.

Getting a job is approx. 60% nepotism, 40% convenience.

Sure, a company can go through an exhaustive job search for a specialist that can damn near write their own check for a position that's essentially a manager without any room for advancement. Eventually they'll find one.
But when they need that positioned filled during the busiest part of the year? You bring in somebody who puts in a resume and has an honest face in the interview, even if they only have a high school diploma.
A few basic classes in biology, chemistry, and mathematics at a community college opens up a world of jobs that people with Master's Degrees are the only ones qualified for but wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. You just have to apply everywhere, eventually someone will get desperate and hire you for something way above your proficiency and turn it into an apprenticeship.

Aladdin takes place in a FICTIONAL country in a FICTIONAL time. Nearly all historical references made in any of the films are inconsistent with other historical references.

Example: During the carpet ride they pass a man carving the Sphinx of Giza which was built around 2500 years BC and the nose falls off mid-carve. In real life the nose was there until the 14th century when Muslims decided to vandalize it because it was a non-Islamic idol. And the genie claims to have been in the lamp for 10,000 years, so he would have had to have been imprisoned at the end of the ice age.
