Is there a reason why every Canadian cartoon looks like shit?
Low production values, lower expectations and a smaller pool of talented artists/animators.
They're required to produce a certain amount of animated series for television, which results in a lot of shows that have basically no budget and no effort put into them in order to meet the standard.

There's a government mandate that a percentage of programming has to be Canadian. Broadcasters pick up the shows that can promise the lowest production cost, because everyone just wants to watch the American shows anyway.
People all want to watch the American shows, because the Canadian shows suck. It's a vicious cycle.
