I love Rick and Morty.
But there is one huge problem that comes to mind, right now.
Beth and Jerry's marriage.
They're always going on and off about how much they hate each other and how being together is a mistake, but they realize that they are perfect together at the end of every episode.
Hell, there was even an entire episode showing what life would have been like if they didn't become teen parents, broke up and succeeded in life, AND THEY'RE EVEN MORE MISERABLE! These two are worse than Homer and Marge, Peter and Lois or any other sitcom couple, ever.

I didn't season 2 because:

I don't dislike it, but some of the lazier episodes in season 2 with Jerry and Beth's continued conflicts were getting annoying, and they did that instead of actually building up more to the climax of the finale (where Rick sacrificed himself to save his family) with more sympathetic moments or more moments where Rick actually could care about his family, like the jellybean rape scene or in close rick-counters of the rick kind where he actually cried for Morty
It has the humour of a politically charged 16 year old who likes to go on Facebook and post "sassy socialist memes" on their wall nom-stop. Sooo edgy and self-aware.

The characters don't appeal to me because they don't seem realistic.
A lot of the "moral issues" seem silly to me because they can't apply to the real world, so they can justify doing things that are wrong.It's needlessly vulgar, not that I'm against such things inherently.

I don't dislike it but I find it to be very hit or miss, some episodes are great while others completely fall flat. I also wish they weren't so insistent on sticking to their A+B plot episode structure when they're often incapable of writing two interesting stories. Most of the episodes I liked had shit B plots.

R&M's greatest asset is its competition.
Look at the state of adult animation. The biggest players are fossils: FG, SP, Simpsons.
Aside from those you have low budget raunchy comedies aimed mostly at stoners: FX's entire Animation Domination block, Most of [as]'s original programming. These are made with more intention of being cheap and easy to produce to get them on air than being 'great' shows.
You can count the number of truly worthwhile adult animated shows that at least TRY to incorporate things like continuity and overarching themes on 1 hand: Venture Brothers, R&M, BoJack Horsemen.
R&M is not a great show. It just appears that way because it's better than the field.

Rick's "I'm so great" shtick is only good while the episodes are above a certain quality.
Once they started going below that quality, he just becomes straight up hateable. Every time he shouted "I'M TINY RICK, TINY RICK TINY RICK, IT'S TINY RICK" and stuff like that, it was just cringeworthily bad. Like, if I had told my friends about this show, and they'd sat down and that episode came on, I'd be embarrassed.
The Purge episode was a special kind of terrible. I thought it couldn't get any worse and then the fucking dancing started.
