I'm sorry, /co/. I know I shouldn't want this and any explanation they provide will ultimately be the worse for the franchise over just leaving it a mystery, but I still want this. I've always been curious about how the mechanics of the Toy Story sort of living toy world are supposed to work and I'm a sucker for worldbuilding. I might not see this in theaters but I think I'll end up making a priority to see it eventually.

A toy maker had daughter and because he knew she felt lonely when he wasn't around turned to science and inserted nanobyte chips into the toys and made them senient. He died and left behind with him the mystery how they became sentient. That's my fanfiction tier reason.
