Well, I can genuinely say that I never heard any hype as I was in jail when it came out. 2 days after my release I was in the theatre and I asked myself what the hell I wanted to watch.. as it happened I saw Frozen. Fucking love it. Great story, great graphics. There's a reason why it made a billion.
I can understand peoples aversion to hype. When Blair Witch and Avatar came out, people acted as if the 2nd coming of Christ was well underway. So I avoided both movies. Eventually saw Avatar (Mom is a big fan. Lol) great graphics but laughed at the end when I realized it was nothing but a retelling of Dances With Wolves but in space almost scene for scene. But I digress... I guess you cant make everyone happy.

I thought it was a good movie but I think the obsession comes from a sexual element. It's a story of two hot sisters and that gets everyone horny it seems. But it's both subconscious and when it moves to the consciousness, Halo effect kicks in and people deny it. Disney knows what they're doing though and keep blasting the image of two attractive females on everything they sell. Humans can't resist attractive humans.
I would have preferred they gone all the way with the songs. Have most of the film be a musical, instead of just having only first third be song after song, then the rest of it dialogue with only a few songs interspersed

I watched it before it exploded EVERYWHERE. Honestly I didn't get the hype. I didn't really like any of the music except for Frozen Heart. The way the story was presented felt very shallow. What's the point of having a film set in a specific place and time in the world if none of the culture is going to appear?

After that,I visited my friends in Europe, they would not shut up about it. Day in and day out it was just listening to music from this stupid movie.
Usually I am able to ignore excessive marketing, but I could not get away from this movie. It was maddening.
