It's bad when the team isn't actually formed, and has a bunch of either new characters, or characters that aren't recognizable.
I would have done it like DnA's first GotG issue. Introduce all the characters, have them do some big action piece together that while, currently unexplained, has importance later and then tease the ongoing plot at the end.
It took too long for the team to get brought together, and that definitely hurt the book.

4 issues is a long damn time to introduce the main selling point (team interaction/banter) for a series that's already flying under the radar.
I genuinely thought Sun Girl was a refreshing character. She was a character who didn't see grey, just did what was right and put her life on the line multiple times without the luxury of powers or bullshit hand to hand stuff that makes so many characters too high plot armor.

Haechi is an Inhuman, Water Snake is an Atlantean, Kaine is a clone of Spidey, Speedball got his powers from an accident, Nova gets his from his helmet, Sun Girl is all tech, and Hummingbird is the avatar of an Aztec war god or something.

It doesn't matter whether someone is a mutant or not. What matters is what franchise they're part of. It's just that 99% of mutants are part of the x-franchise.
Namor isn't part of the x-franchise despite being a mutant. SW and QS were mutants but shared between the two because they were both part of the Avengers franchise and X-men franchise. Squirrel Girl was a mutant but not X-men. Whirlwind is an Ant-man/Wasp villain, not an X-men villain. Franklin Richards is a mutant but not part of X-men (but he is part of F4 so Fox owns him anyways, but he wouldn't be able to appear in an x-men movie without Marvel's permission since they're two seperate rights packages).
And it goes the other way too. Deadpool isn't a mutant, but Fox has him because he's part of the X-men franchise.
