So I just bought the Saga Book One collection with the first 18 issues on a total whim for $25.
What am I in for? The only of Brian K. Vaughan's stuff I've read is Y: the Last Man, which is the only comic series where I own every individual issue and also the deluxe editions.

>What am I in for?
A pretty good comic.

It's unnecessarily praised by casuals and unnecessarily shit on by /co/.
Overall it's alright.

Pretty much this.
Also they killed off best girl way too fast.

Romeo & Juliet in Outer Space, with a lot of swearing and a chance to be politically incorrect at every single opportunity.
It would be a good book but it feels like it tries too hard to go for extreme lengths at shocking the user. So don't be surprised if you flip a page and you see hardcore gay porn, or a two page spread of a mountain sized dragon fellating itself.

>asking /co/ for opinions on comic books
Do you hate yourself or something?
Brian has become way more of social justice warrior. He writes not to offend feminists now.

it's shit you've wasted your money

this
also word of advice. Ask for an opinion and THEN buy it. Don't do the opposite.

>What am I in for?
You could try just reading it
Why buy it if you want /co/ to explain the story?

I got this vibe that Vaughan was going for this sort of meta-commentary on art, specifically comics. The whole "it takes two people to make something," the explicit sex stuff, etc. were honestly pretty inspired ideas, and handled well when they show up. It's over the top and ostensibly progressive, but a bit of it looked like it had some substance behind it.
But he drops the ball 3 issues in and just focuses on melodrama and other romance BS. The good ideas are too few and far between, stretched way too thin so we can see people make a big fuss over Gwendolyn or whoever. A good idea squandered by the need for "feels."

It's offensively bad. Edgy as fuck dialogue, explicit imagery / dark subjects treated in the most shallow possible way and used only for the sake of being 'mature', a fucking terrible tuff gurl protagonist and her beta husband, all sorts of random shitty ideas thrown in to look unique, terrible plot that goes nowhere.

I think you're just not old enough to understand it
It has way too much hype and is constantly overrated, but it is an amazing comic nonetheless. Some people simply don't see the appeal and dislike it, but 95% enjoy it.
It'll probably be amazing when fully complete, as it is the sort of thing you binge read rather than wait every month
A sexy robot that has a lot of homoerotic imagery for someone who claims to be 100% straight.

Weird sex stuff, good humor, and a plot that keeps you guessing.
It's not bad but I couldn't get into it. Seemed like the setting was more interesting than the plot. I didn't care about the main characters or anything after 6 issues.
