CN has been doing great after CN Real. I'm not sure how cashing in on the nostalgiafags will make the network better quality wise. Samurai Jack will most likely be good because Genndy is back writing it but the people doing the Powerpuff reboot are different writers entirely and the last Powerpuff special was terrible so there is nothing particularly implying it will be good.
A dark age is something so horrible that it becomes blotted out from history and people don't want to remember it.
I'd say CN's gone through 6 ages so far:

Secondly, Snyder misguidedly wanted to add live action to Cartoon Network in an effort to give it equal footing with Nickelodeon and Disney. It didn't work. So we got our cartoons, but even a rerun of Spongebob does better than a brand new premier at CN. In short, the "shit" you described was still better than CN Real.
