That's exactly what a storyboard artist does. They sketch out the scene and how it will be set up and positioned, and gives the guidelines and notes for how the animators need to animate it. It's more than sketches, it's literally setting the stage.

Because you just don't get it. Partly I do but there's a part you don't get. I do draw for commercial designs and yes I do understand why you say "show me something better" because you do not like Gendy's style of simplicity. However this style provided a lot of extra's when it comes to animating and becomes something you easily recognize him for. It might look silly I get it but I do like that he is using something aching to screen printing, sometimes cubism and that it all comes together almost like a painted illustration. The flatness also reminds me of shadowplay puppets, but I think screenprinting fits it best.
A lot of artwork is actually well thought through and sometimes it adds to provide workability, cost efficiency and interesting turns to animation. It is nice if you can make things more beautiful but if it eats up all your budget then it isn't good enough.
